THIS PLACE TRAUMATIZED ME..

If I could give this shit hole negative stars I would... I am 23 now went here from age 17-18 and I am still traumatized. Between the bedbugs, child grooming from staff, and racism I witnessed happening to other children I have no idea how this nightmare continues to exist. My self-worth and body image were destroyed from the constant criticism from staff. I have nightmares of being held down by staff and feeling like a zombie from all the drugs they keep you on. I have no idea how my parents slept at night knowing the abuse I was going through. NO child deserves this! As a mother I could never comfortably send my child here.

I worked here for 8 months, I took the job because I wanted to help kids and work with them. I have never been so horrified in my life than when I learned what this place truly is. Filthy, infested with lice and bed bugs, the smell in the cottages was staggering. Blood on the carpet, holes in the walls, terrible food, kids medicated out of their minds, burn out and exhausted staff. Rules weren't enforced, no breaks, corruption rampant, alleged sexual activity between certain staff and youth, staff coming in drunk, they even hired a guy who was still on probation. Fights everyday, kids packed in like sardines, poor hygiene and non existent therapy, poor training, poor pay, This place is a nightmare. The kids kept me coming in everyday, until I had had enough, I had to leave. I felt guilty working there, and for leaving those children in that place. They have skated by the board of health way too many times. This place is not fit for anyone, much less children.

My life has changed progressively since the education and affection I received from this blessing of a home for troubled youth in 2010-2011. I am a faithful Christian saved December 24, 2015. This is a piece of my story. Though I gratefully made it 18 months sober from my addiction after my release, I was still young and had many more things to go through. I developed severe alcoholism and started to regress from what I had been taught about criminal and addictive thinking. After I reapplied my teachings and got back to meetings and with a higher power I was able to understand again that this is a life long illness that will always take work. But through the simple program of Alcoholics Anonymous I was shown yet again, It works. If you work it. Through it all I know that none of these efforts or successes would have been in my brain had I not been given the opportunity to learn from the amazing and loving staff at Southwest Indiana Regional Youth Village. I am crime free for 3 years, a regular and active member at Batesville Christian Church, I attend meetings more than once a week. I have become a Father I'm proud to be. Finally found healthy ways to grieve my mothers early death and accept it as God's plan and not my fault. I have held a steady job and taken care of my own bills. I am a man now. Fit for society. I desire to be a minister and am taking steps necessary to do so. For all these things I owe a great deal of Gratitude. Let's be completely honest here. I was at that facility for almost 7 months. It has its moments. And although I hated the place itself, I got really attached to some of the people. Some of the staff were absolutely amazing, while others were completely unfair. There was a comment here saying that a staff was on meth and contributing to some of the resident's. Unfortunately, I have to admit that the statement is correct. I was there at the time of the staff being investigated. Was asked to be drug tested and refused, so she got fired. Only a couple months later, her daughter was placed in the cottage I was in. She was taken from her mom because of her moms drug use. This place may not be the best, but it's better then the other placements I've been too. So in a way, this place was ok. But it also had it's very dark days. So I give this place a good 3 stars.

I am fairly disgusted at the reviews I have read about this facility. I know for a fact most are false statements. I worked for this facility on and off for three plus years and it was never like that. I do think that like other places it does have its issues but 90 percent of the problem here isn't the facility or the staff. It's the administration. Well was....not anymore. I was blessed to have a job here and it was a life changing experience. I loved everyone I got to work beside even on their worst days. Sometimes even the hardest workers get treated unfairly....just remember that.

I agree this is no place for children. My child is in here they have staff letting girls and boys make out do to lack of staff and control of the children. My child is eat up with bites the toilets over flowing sending raw sewage into dorms. just a nasty and unsafe place.

I was sent here when I was 15. A man named Juliano was on staff. We were told we would have 5 minute showers individually and when it was a person's turn juliano would watch us get in the shower and after 30 seconds would say "okay times up" I watched another staff beat up a mentally handicapped kid because he wouldnt stop yelling. We couldnt sleep without our lights on. We got chicken nuggets that were so burnt it was just hollow breading. The case managers were condescending and selfish.

I have a family member who is here in the cottages and I am happy with this facility. During the quarantine they were able to keep all of the youths and all of the staff from getting covid19. I'm sure that wasnt a easy task with that many people. While I haven't met all of the staff , the ones I have met seem to really care about the youths. It is apparent that many of the staff is here not only for the income but really want to help the youths. Are there problems? I'm sure there are but compared to some other facilities I have visited they seem very minor. You have to remember these are not the easiest youths to deal with because of many different problems but they all still deserved to be well cared for and I feel like they are.

I keep seeing post about bugs ,,please don't sugar coat it when you say bugs what kind are you saying cause bedbugs is on the rise and I want to know if that is the bugs you are speaking of and my son is in this place right now so I want to know what his living conditions are like in this place

I personally just got out of this place a couple weekends ago, an I was reading these reviews and some of them are actually correct, while some aren't. No they don't have bed bugs, lice anything under that circumstance. I think the kids are just saying this so their parents or anything won't send them back to SIRYV. I just think they need to let you do more, and talk more. Yes, the food is gross, but thats punishment. The staff are not good, that is what they need more of. & if the kids say that there are bugs then that's there fault, because in dentention you have to keep your room well taken care of. I would make a complaint about the staff.

I worked there for 5 months, I was cursed, threatened, and spit at. I seen staff sent to the hospital with numerous injuries torn ligaments , concussions, coming back to work on crunches they can't discipline the kids because they are all CVS cases. Their policy is " handle with care" while the kids are terrorising the staff every day.keep your health and your sanity, this is a most horrifying place to work you will ever know.
