The South Florida Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1997 by Sebrina Maria Alfonso who is the teacher and conductor. The orchestra performs all over South Florida from Palm Beach to Monroe counties. Two honors the orchestra has received are they are a recognized as a Broward major cultural institution and a special presentations partner with the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

The orchestra is passionate about bringing classical music to school children who may be hearing it for the first time. I was able to attend one of the five free educational programs they offer, Peter and the Wolf. They made it very child friendly by providing an introduction to the story, music, and instruments. They also encouraged audience participation with costumes. I am familiar with the story of Peter and Wolf from my own childhood and it was a treat to see the piece performed live by a talented orchestra. A full schedule of their performances can be found on their website. You can also enter to win tickets to a concert and donate money to support this cultural institution.

A friend brought me to the Symphony recently. Shostakovich Symphony 5 was outstanding. The musicians and the conductor were moving together as if they were one. I am so thankful to have experienced this wonderful orchestra and looking forward to attending more concerts!

The South Florida Symphony will not disappoint. I'll tell you one thing: This is not your parents' symphony. This is a vivacious, edgy, and contemporary conglomeration of talented and passionate musicians who are led by a truly inspiring conductor. See for yourself. Just go once and you will definitely want to go again. And again.

About South Florida Symphony

South Florida Symphony: Bringing Vibrancy and Innovation to the Arts

The South Florida Symphony (SFSO) is a non-profit organization that has been dedicated to promoting classical music in the region since 1997. Guided by the belief that music is pivotal to community engagement, the SFSO brings vibrancy, innovation, and strengthens public commitment to the arts.

The SFSO has a rich history of providing world-class performances that showcase some of the most talented musicians from around the world. The orchestra's repertoire includes classical masterpieces, contemporary works, and popular favorites. With its diverse programming and innovative approach to music-making, it has become one of South Florida's premier cultural institutions.

One of the hallmarks of SFSO's success is its commitment to education and outreach programs. Through these initiatives, it seeks to inspire young people with a love for classical music while also fostering an appreciation for cultural diversity. The orchestra offers educational programs for students at all levels - from elementary school through college - as well as community outreach events that bring live performances directly into neighborhoods throughout South Florida.

In addition to its educational efforts, SFSO also collaborates with other organizations in order to promote cultural exchange between different communities. For example, it has partnered with local schools and universities on projects such as "Music in Motion," which combines dance with live orchestral performances.

Another key aspect of SFSO's mission is its commitment to innovation in programming. In recent years, it has expanded beyond traditional concert formats by incorporating multimedia elements into its performances. This includes using video projections or lighting effects during concerts or collaborating with artists from other disciplines such as dance or theater.

SFSO also places great emphasis on supporting emerging talent within classical music through various initiatives such as commissioning new works or providing performance opportunities for young musicians through competitions like their annual concerto competition.

As a non-profit organization reliant on donations from individuals and corporations alike, SFSO takes pride in being an integral part of South Florida's vibrant arts scene while also contributing positively towards economic development within local communities.

In conclusion, if you are looking for an organization that embodies excellence in classical music performance while also being committed towards education outreach programs aimed at inspiring future generations then look no further than South Florida Symphony!
