The South Florida Symphony Orchestra was founded in 1997 by Sebrina Maria Alfonso who is the teacher and conductor. The orchestra performs all over South Florida from Palm Beach to Monroe counties. Two honors the orchestra has received are they are a recognized as a Broward major cultural institution and a special presentations partner with the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

The orchestra is passionate about bringing classical music to school children who may be hearing it for the first time. I was able to attend one of the five free educational programs they offer, Peter and the Wolf. They made it very child friendly by providing an introduction to the story, music, and instruments. They also encouraged audience participation with costumes. I am familiar with the story of Peter and Wolf from my own childhood and it was a treat to see the piece performed live by a talented orchestra.
