Solidarmed: Improving Healthcare for Millions in Africa

SolidarMed is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to improving healthcare for millions of people in Lesotho, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. The organization works closely with local hospitals, health centers, and authorities to develop medical projects that are tailored to the specific needs of each community.

In Lesotho, for example, SolidarMed has been working since 2005 on a project aimed at reducing maternal mortality rates. The project focuses on training midwives in emergency obstetric care (EmOC) skills so they can provide life-saving interventions during childbirth. In addition to training midwives directly through workshops and mentoring programs, SolidarMed also works with hospitals and clinics across the country to ensure that EmOC services are available when needed.

Similarly in Mozambique where malaria remains one of the leading causes of death among children under five years old; Solidarmed has implemented an innovative program called "Malaria Control" which aims at reducing malaria-related morbidity by 50% by 2023 through prevention measures such as distribution of mosquito nets treated with insecticide or indoor residual spraying (IRS).

In Tanzania where there is a high prevalence rate of HIV/AIDS; Solidarmed supports HIV testing campaigns as well as providing antiretroviral therapy (ART) to those who test positive. The organization also works with local health authorities to improve the quality of care for people living with HIV/AIDS.

In Zambia, SolidarMed has been working since 2012 on a project aimed at improving access to essential medicines and treatments for non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as diabetes and hypertension. The project focuses on strengthening health systems at all levels, from community-based care to national policy development.

Finally in Zimbabwe where there is a high prevalence rate of tuberculosis; Solidarmed has implemented an innovative program called "TB Care" which aims at reducing TB-related morbidity by 50% by 2023 through prevention measures such as early detection, treatment adherence support and contact tracing.
