About Solidariteit

With assistance just around the corner, Solidarity wants to equip its members and the community to be stronger in the new world of work.

Solidariteit: Empowering Members and Communities for a Stronger Future

Solidariteit is a South African trade union and mutual aid society that has been serving its members since 1902. With over 140,000 members across various industries, Solidariteit is committed to providing assistance and support to its members in times of need. But Solidariteit is more than just a trade union – it's also a community-driven organization that seeks to empower its members and the wider community through education, training, and advocacy.

At the heart of Solidariteit's mission is the belief that every worker deserves fair treatment, respect, and dignity in the workplace. This belief drives Solidariteit's efforts to negotiate better wages and working conditions for its members across various sectors such as mining, agriculture, manufacturing, retail, hospitality, healthcare among others.

But Solidarity goes beyond just negotiating better working conditions for its members; it also provides them with access to legal advice on labor-related issues such as unfair dismissal or discrimination. Additionally, they offer financial assistance in case of retrenchment or disability.

Solidarity understands that the world of work is changing rapidly due to technological advancements which have led to job losses in some sectors while creating new opportunities in others. Therefore they are committed to equipping their members with skills needed for this new world of work through training programs aimed at upskilling workers so they can remain relevant in their respective fields.

In addition to supporting their own membership base with these services mentioned above ,Solidarity also extends support beyond their membership base by offering bursaries for tertiary education studies as well as providing funding towards community development projects aimed at uplifting disadvantaged communities around South Africa.

One notable project undertaken by Solidarity was during COVID-19 pandemic where they provided food parcels worth millions of rands (South African currency)to vulnerable families who were affected by lockdowns imposed by government measures aimed at curbing spread of virus.

Solidariteit is also committed to advocating for the rights of workers and promoting social justice in South Africa. They have been involved in various campaigns aimed at addressing issues such as gender inequality, racism, and corruption.

In conclusion, Solidariteit is more than just a trade union; it's a community-driven organization that seeks to empower its members and the wider community through education, training, advocacy and support. With assistance just around the corner, Solidarity wants to equip its members and the community to be stronger in the new world of work. If you are looking for an organization that will stand by you through thick and thin while empowering you with skills needed for this new world of work then look no further than Solidariteit!
