Sojourner House: Providing Safe and Healthy Relationships for 45 Years

Sojourner House is a non-profit organization that has been providing lifesaving services and advocacy for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking in Rhode Island for the past 45 years. The organization was founded in 1976 by a group of women who recognized the need for safe spaces and support systems for survivors of domestic violence.

Since its inception, Sojourner House has been committed to providing comprehensive services to survivors of abuse. The organization offers emergency shelter, transitional housing, counseling, legal advocacy, education and prevention programs to help individuals heal from trauma and rebuild their lives.

One of the unique aspects of Sojourner House is its commitment to serving all survivors regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation. The organization recognizes that abuse can happen to anyone regardless of their background or identity. Therefore they provide inclusive services that are tailored to meet the specific needs of each individual.

In addition to direct services, Sojourner House also engages in community outreach efforts aimed at raising awareness about domestic violence and sexual assault. They offer educational programs on healthy relationships in schools across Rhode Island as well as training sessions for professionals such as law enforcement officers, healthcare providers, social workers among others.

The impact that Sojourner House has had on the community over the past four decades cannot be overstated. Thousands have benefited from their life-saving services which have helped them escape abusive situations and start anew with hope.

Looking towards the future, Sojourner House remains committed to expanding its reach so that more people can access their vital resources. They continue working tirelessly towards ending domestic violence through advocacy efforts aimed at changing policies at local state levels while also supporting survivors through direct service provision.
