Smith County Appraisal District Review

Save yourself a lot of trouble - DO NOT BUY PROPERTY IN SMITH COUNTY!!!!! The Smith County Appraisal District raised taxes on my 35+ year old agricultural structures by over 300% in just 3 years. See pictures below of the structures they value at less than 20 years old and claim are in "Excellent" condition. They've seen the pictures and will not budge. I've never dealt with more unreasonable people. Just an awful experience.

I got online for the first time today to find the address for the appraisal district, and there it was in large print on the right section of the first page. I didn't even have to hunt and hunt and hunt as I did today for another county.

Do not move to Smith county unless you like being ripped off.

I've paid inside many times over the years. They have always been professional. Go in, pay your bill,collect your receipt, leave. They will make arrangements with people that can't pay all at once. No reason for anyone to complain.

Just pull up, park, and walk in. The staff were courteous, friendly, and very knowledgeable. I'm glad i went. I quickly got the information i requested. Found out which deductions i was eligible for, and received the paperwork to complete. I was dreading this before going. Do yourself a favor if you have questions about your property taxes, go by there and ask you may be eligible for a deduction you are not aware of. Went back today. There were different workers there...but they were professionals just like the others were.

It's okay if you enjoy your property taxes increasing 10-15% every year....I don't.

I had one of the worst experiences ever with these people! Never got answers as to why my land value increased $13k. As property owners we have every right to know the formulas used to get these figures. My property value hasn't increased in 20 yrs. so guess they decided to make up for that in one year. I have never been so stressed and humiliated in all the years of living in this county. I pray noone else has to go through what they put me through.
