Slovnaft: A Leading Refinery and Petrochemical Company

Slovnaft, a.s. is a renowned refinery and petrochemical company headquartered in Bratislava, Slovakia. With an annual processing capacity of 5.5-6 million tons of crude oil, the company has established itself as a leading player in the industry.

Apart from production, storage, distribution, and wholesale of petroleum products, Slovnaft boasts the largest retail network in Slovakia that focuses on selling motor fuels and lubricants while providing a wide range of services to motorists.

History

Slovnaft was founded in 1938 as "Slovak Refinery" with its first refinery located in Bratislava's suburb Devinska Nova Ves. The company underwent several changes over time before it became Slovnaft after merging with Chemko Strazske in 1961.

In 1992 Slovnaft became a joint-stock company following the dissolution of Czechoslovakia. The Hungarian oil and gas giant MOL Group acquired majority ownership (98%) of Slovnaft in 2000.

Production

Slovnaft's primary business is refining crude oil into various petroleum products such as gasoline, diesel fuel, jet fuel (aviation kerosene), heating oil (fuel oil), bitumen for road construction or roofing materials production.

The refinery also produces petrochemicals such as polypropylene used for manufacturing plastic products like packaging materials or automotive parts; benzene used for producing synthetic fibers or rubber; toluene used for making solvents or explosives; xylene used for producing polyester resins or paints among others.

The refinery has undergone several upgrades over time to improve efficiency while reducing environmental impact through modernization projects like desulfurization units installation that reduces sulfur dioxide emissions by up to 99%.

Retail Network

Slovnaft operates more than two hundred filling stations across Slovakia, making it the largest retail network in the country. The filling stations offer a wide range of services to motorists, including car washes, tire services, and convenience stores.

The company's retail network also includes non-fuel businesses such as restaurants and cafes that provide customers with a comfortable place to relax while on the road.

Slovnaft's filling stations offer various types of motor fuels such as gasoline (95 octane), diesel fuel (B7), LPG (liquefied petroleum gas), and AdBlue® used for reducing nitrogen oxide emissions from diesel engines.

The company also offers a range of lubricants under its own brand name Slovnaft Premium Lubricants. These lubricants are designed to meet the needs of modern engines while providing superior performance and protection against wear and tear.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Slovnaft is committed to corporate social responsibility by supporting various initiatives aimed at improving people's lives in Slovakia. The company has invested in education programs that promote science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) among young people.

Slovnaft has also supported environmental projects aimed at preserving natural resources like water or forests through reforestation programs or waste management initiatives that reduce pollution levels in local communities.
