I had some malware issues a few years ago on my site with Hostgator. When I contacted Hostgator they directly connected me with Sitelock who sold me a protection package for $50 a month.
When I decided to build a new website with a new host I called Hostgator to initiate the transfer of my domain and asked if I need to call Sitelock to cancel their service. I was assured the Sitelock service would be canceled. Everything I had ever done with Sitelock was through Hostgator, however the service was not cancelled and auto billing continued for 2 more months before I caught it. When calling Sitelock directly there were many issues trying to verify my account. Several numbers had been added to the end of my email so I was not receiving any emails and they wanted the last 4 digits of my credit card used in billing, however the one they needed to verify was not the current number they were charging but a number that had been issued a few years ago and not even the initial one used to set up my account. Because I had done everything through Hostgator I had never set up a Sitelock dashboard, and couldn't because of the extra digits added to my email. When the manager checked the dashboard she said I had recently checked a box agreeing to continued service, after the request to cancel and transfer my domain. I could not have done this because I had never logged in or set up a dashboard. The manager eventually decided to credit one month "as a curiosity", like I had done something wrong.
SUMMARY: If you use this company make sure you understand that you are contracting outside of your host even if from beginning to end they make it seem like they are working together.
