Inefficiently-run organisation. Self-registered at L4 kiosk, instructions said to proceed to L3, waited at L3 awhile then decided to check with counter staff only to be told to go back to L4 to inform counter staff that I have arrived. So much for self-registration. Counter staff could also do with better customer-service skills.

Truly the value-added & holistic eye cares for especially the elderly citizens enabled by the best eye specialists and back-up staff !
After subsidies and reductions for the pioneers, patients seeking specialists' treatments pay only 1/4 of the total bills which one can opt to be deducted from medisave accounts.
To avoid extended wait and queue, it would be wise to shun appointments during school vacations.n

The receptionist at 62277255, named Ms Nim of SNEC was very professional in her handling of my appointment.
In view of my scheduled appointment on 18/12, I am unable to submit my doctor report to qualify for the extension of my driving licence . She managed to find a cancelled appointment slot on 13/10 for me, thus giving me ample time to do my cataract operation.
I thank her n may Allah bless her

Just like the National Cancer Centre Singapore, this Singapore National Eye Centre is equally a welcoming sight for those in need. I was referred from Choa Chu Kang Polyclinic, Dr Odelia Koh who appeared proficient in what she was telling me except for the fact that she triggered the alarm in me when she stated very clearly that I needed to go the emergency hospital right away. Long story short, I ended up with Dr Teo Zhen Ling, who carried out several tests after dilating my pupils. Just like Dr Koh, she also appeared proficiently knowledgeable and handled the inspection so well I felt I can trust her. Now I will have to wait it out for 2 months for the next follow up visit.

While the LASIK surgery went well, it was extremel...

While the LASIK surgery went well, it was extremely obvious that SNEC severely lacks in patient care and professionalism.

Immediately after my LASIK surgery, I was asked to take a photo with the Doctor when I couldn t even open my eyes as they were smarting and tearing from the procedure. When asked if the photo taking is necessary, the doctor replied with a It s a souvenir for you and even asked me to hold up a sign that says Yay to BETTER VISION! I simply cannot comprehend the severe lack of patient care and professionalism from a certified medical professional to ask a patient whom had just finished a procedure for a photoshoot.

Went for my post op review the next day and was appalled by the nurses work ethics. They didn t even check my patient record before starting the eye examination. The moment I sat down on the examination chair, the nurse asked if I m short sighted and if I brought my spectacles which left me dumbfounded. The next question is even more shocking, she asked when I m having the surgery. All these should have been clearly reflected in my patient records if only the nurses bothered to check which should be part of the standard operating procedure.

The next post op review, the nurses work ethics continue to surprise. They asked when did I have my surgery and if it was done yesterday. Only when I asked whether they checked my patient records before calling me in for examination which she replied with no then proceed to check.

SNEC needs to have a total revamp in their patient care and immediate improvement in work ethics especially when they are medical professionals. I will definitely not recommend anyone to do their LASIK here.

Horrible waiting hours. Emergency hotline operator (weekend) do not even have the knowledge to answer my questions. Staffs seem afraid of the doctors at the Lasik centre. Doctors are rude to staffs and patients. Don t waste your time here.

It's been tough sledding as my mother's primary care giver and few days ago I brought her to the Eye Centre for follow up. She was disoriented that day and I asked the nurse passing by to help check our turn. She said she is not the right nurse and walked away.

There is no help until another nurse came by. She said she could contact colleagues from another department to come and hear my complaint or I can call their hotline to feedback.

She then saw a guy passing the clinic, stopped him and asked him to attend to me.

In the first place all I wanted from the nurses was to find out my mother's turn but it was surfaced as if I wanted to give feedback.

I spoke to the guy who identified himself as Patrick and he tried to apologise for the incident after I vented my frustrations on him.

I know it can be very stressful working in high pressure environment but please know that being patients and families we too experienced stress. In this aspect the nurse is in a better position due to their direct attachment in the clinic to communicate the appropriate response.

I take it that that guy Patrick's apology includes the commitment for the centre to do better. Then stay grounded and see what you can do to help us.

His namecard states that his number is 63229410.

Incompetent Eye Dr LOO YUNHUA! I have been a long term patient with SNEC and I have not met any doctor as rude as her. she is unable to answer my question and shut me up. Consultation was less than 5 minutes and she told the nurse to bring me out.
I will seek second opinion in NUH. Need to reconsider coming here. Drs all young and have no knowledge. Dangerous to let this dr loo to manage my eye condition. She may cause blindness instead of curing it.
Tried to call to make feedback but line always engage. Please do something about this.

I was confronted about using a shared bicycle outside the hospital premises when 2 security guards confronted me and demanded I give them my particulars. They became aggressive and argumentative when I told them I preferred to see their manager. Took out phone to video them shouting and threatening. The 2 guards tried to snatch the camera then deliberately shoved me to the floor in the process and broke my arm and damaged my hand. Was hospitslised. Couldn't work for nearly 4 months already still in recovery. Hospital spokesperson and security company Aetos denied full responsibility. Newspapers wouldn't take up the story. MPs and ministry ignored issue. Hospital only wants to be 50% responsible for hospital bill and wants a non-disclosure agreement to be sined if any compensation is made. Police investigation still going and the hospital refused any access to footage even through legal means.

Excellent Service Standard and Care for my Elderly Mother

On behalf of our mum, Tuminah binte Marzuki (S0116486D), we would like to express our deepest gratitude and sincere thanks to Professor Rahat Husain and his team of doctors and nurses who have gone out of their way to show care and love to our mum. Even though mum is 81 yrs old, she was well taken care of and had the best support at SNEC. We were extremely heartened and touched because ordinary people like us who cannot afford to go private can also receive such excellent treatment and close monitoring. Many many thanks to Prof Rahat and his team of wonderful staff for the heart and hard work!

Please share this with Prof Rahat, his team and Higher Management to affirm their excellent service of Care.

Sincerely
Mdm Tuminah and children

Took 5 hours (11am to 4pm) to do pre-operation assessment at Clinic 2, which means it took an average of 1 hour for each station (financial counselling, blood pressure test, pre surgery counselling, eye test and ECG test) The work flow amongst the 5 stations needs to be improved and be more efficient.

Went there at 9.30am and by 1.15pm haven't finished with seeing the doctor. The wait was exasperating but one Dr Ann who took my blood test was purely professional and experience. Where for the past 2 visits, the staffs there failed, she managed it in only 1 try. Kudos to her and only peeve I've got is not getting her full name.

The initial SMS sent quoted a price of $179 for co...

The initial SMS sent quoted a price of $179 for consultation. On the day of consultation, the nurse+lab tech advised me that the doctor requests further tests to be done for all his patients. These all added up to $330 in the end for the first consultation. The staff will provide you with a false choice: "the doctor recommends it but it is your choice to do it". Who would say no? They would also try to show transparency after-the-fact by telling you the cost of the additional tests; the tests that were not transparently communicated in the first place.

I chose SNEC because I thought that pricing would be transparent. It is rather obvious that they are banking on the fact that you would be willing to pay already since you've decided to come for a lasik consultation.

Further, I have just accidentally poked my left eye while applying anti bacterial drops and I'm feeling a bit of discomfort and pressure. The clinic has advised me to come down for a look but the cost would be $130+ meds excluding GST. I think that the pricing is a huge joke and if you want more personalized care that you should not go to SNEC. I refuse to believe that a smaller private clinic doctor would charge another $130+gst just to take a quick look at my eye to confirm nothing is wrong, or at least a smaller private clinic doctor who wants to maintain patient-doctor r/s for referrals will not charge that kind of money. My LASEK procedure was only 8 days ago.

As an aside, price for everything is inflated imo. Do you know the regular test where someone asks you to hold up a piece of spoon and requests that you read aloud what the board says? That costs $10 excl gst. This is an activity that requires no medical knowledge, low tech technical equipment, and mine just took 10 secs. Maybe such pricing is also reflected the same in other private clinics, so I guess my point is that medical fees in general are inflated.

My main point is still that if you want more personalized care and better transparency (ironically) maybe a smaller private clinic would be better. Or an actual private hospital may be better. Don't go to SNEC.

Having looked through some of the reviews here, I could agree with both the poorer ones and also with the better ones.

However please know that the general standard of medical care and professionalism of the staff will be the same across all the clinics, whether at SNEC or at other private clinics, so do not choose SNEC because of these reasons

The differentiators are the little things like what I've mentioned above (e.g. unpersonalised care, transparency issues). Maintaining a stream of patients to treat is more difficult for other private clinics than for SNEC therefore these clinics have to act more competitively within themselves and also between themselves and SNEC to keep their businesses going. So you will more than likely receive better personalized care in such places.

Check out other clinics and talk to others who have undergone treatments in other clinics, it may br worth your while shopping around before deciding.

I fixed an appt with Snec a year ago for annual check on 7/9/18 pm where there would be a visual field test followed by dilation n consultation. But to my surprise I received a notification recently giving me two appointments on different dates n times. I felt Snec does not respect their customers. Should they want to change their regulation, they could have done it after the patient has attended the last appointment on 7/9/18 n not just simply change by sending a notification without even an explanation. Poor patient service!

I fully agree with Chris. I accompanied my 80 years old Senior for a eye check up. It was a really bad experience. He was given an appointment at 2pm. We were there at 1pm and given a queue number. Subsequently, file was messed up and we were asked to wait at the wrong room. We approached the staff nurses and none is willing to help us. Their identical response - "Sorry, I am in charge of ...., your name is not here, please check with other staff." The nurse who asked us to wait is no where to be seen.

We got no help from these nurses tried our luck to the doctor consultation room. We were told his record is there and asked to wait. One hour later we checked again and was told it was with the doctor next room. I told the nurse that we had no lunch yet and asked how long more we had to wait. (So we can decide what to do) But another rude staff told us off that "we won't know you dont have lunch. Irregardless of what time you arrived, you are given a queue number for your appointment time." Well, If that is the case, our appointment time is 2pm! We decided to went downstairs to have a meal and came back 10 minutes later. And she said "you went out right? We called you many times and so now you have to wait"

The whole incident was riduculous. It ended at 5.30pm. The attitude of the nurses were totally unaccepable. Messy, irresponsible and rude.

A lot of treatment/care were not included in the consultation price but of course everyone tell you to do them as if you do not have a choice and do not warn you it will be charged extra! You are so sneaky! You are a public hospital!! Just act like it! I was charged one hundred in addition of the consultation fee and the medication. Just be honest, be trustful to your patients (not a client!) !

The place is Very badly run. There is NO system in place. Total chaos. Throngs of people milling around. No seats available for patients. The place has gotten from bad to worst since I visited a year ago. Yesterday, I was there for my routine annual check-up. The simple usual 'eye chart' test and the pupil 'dilation' eye drop prior to entering the doctor's consultation room should have taken no more than 5 mins in all had actually taken 2 hrs with unnecessary long stretches of waiting in between. Needless to say, by the time I got to enter the consultation room and left after 5mins, I had spent over 3 hrs at the place. Buck up, hospital administration.

Be very informed before deciding to seek eye surgery at SNEC, SENG KANG HOSPITAL. The post surgery medical care and support is inefficient and equivalent to 3rd world country standards. I wenf through unnecessary pain, PANIC and anxiety, phone numbers given are not answered. Forget about Walking into their clinic without prior appointment. Even scheduled appointment can be changed without prior notice and coummication is via SMS !!

I now have ZERO Expectations for SNEC..... charges are definately NOT ALIGNED to the horrors one has to go through !

Going through these reviews, i can see that tnere is a pattern.... gave feedback to Service Quality Department and NOT Holding any hopes up !

my advice, if you are paying as private SNEC patient: get a 2nd opinion and be very careful of the charges quoted by SNEC. I was closed to proceeding a simple surgical procedure with them. A specialist friend advised me to get a 2nd opinion which resulted in aborting the surgery procedure with SNEC. I finally went to a highly experienced doctor from Mt E and was able to achieve the same end result at 25% of the cost quoted by SNEC, and with much higher level of professionalism and service. Suffice to say, SNEC will never be my first port-of-call again.

Got referred to here, very impressed with the service and processing. I previously visited Mount A Eagle eye. The prices here are around half of private and the waiting time is surprisingly fast, around 1 hour for my visit compared to 2h for private. They also have all the same equipment as Eagle eye. Very professional, go here if you can wait for the appointment. (around 6 months)

My wife has blurr vision n we booked a senior consultant to have an assessment. She is given an appointment thru sms. A day before actual appointment date she received another appointment date thru 2nd sms. I call but unable to access to any operator. On the appointment day we went down and was informed due to doctor no available the appointment was last min change to 2nd sms date. We are fine if doctor was unavailable but as least give us a call to tell that the appointment has change to the 2nd sms date. We need not have to travel all the way to snec. Moreover the 2nd sms did not indicate change of appointment to new date, it just states you have an appointment on the said date. I hope your centre can improve the communication part eg 2nd sms should indicate
cancelled 1st appointment so that we dont have to travel down. Thank you

Went to A&E and was direct to SNEC for eye issue (pls take note, U cant walk-in to SNEC without app). It my first time went to go SNEC to see some eye problem.

Since is public hospital, so the queue will be very long. Be prepare to wait at least 1-2hour for your turn for doc consultation. My app was 7.50am, and it already full of peoples @ hospital. I notice the Nurse start work at 8am, Doc at 9am. Personal i prefer them to give me a number slot rather than calling my name :/ (mean i had to sit there wait for my name to be call)

The young lady doc (sorry i dunno your name) which i see is really good & caring, so as the nurse.

*If you had any question, is better for you to ask the doc rather than wait for doc to tell you as i guess they often serve elders which usually most wont ask question?*

There are different charge for Singaporean, PR, and foreigner.
And do wait patiently!!!

Very unprofessional services! My mom's xen implant surgery was cancelled after she had completed her pre-op exam because the surgery team didn't arrange for the deliver of the implant on the surgery date. My mom fasted for nothing. Furthermore, snec has a lot of nondisclosure policies. I felt like we were in a highly classified medical facility where information was not forthcoming. Being a foreigner in developed nation, I have had worst experience at SNEC recently. I visited with my Wife for eye inflammation checkup. I was aware that I had to wait for Long for my turn to come-up. In first appointment- doctor did basic tests like pressure, vision and one more. That s okay. And after results came, she said- everything looks okay me, She had to take my wife eyelid hair (few 2-3) and said we will test and see if anything like germs or anything there. We accepted, but she never said this will be expansive or chargeable. We thought this is a routine test that they did earlier for eye pressure n all. When we went to payment counter they asked for hundreds of bucks to pay. We paid without any choice. And they said collect your report after a week. We went Home sad.
After a week, to get test report results, doctor nurse called us and told please come this week, we want to give you some medicine as reports are not okay.

After my wife reached there, they gave demo of how to use this medicine. Surprisingly, without any expression they said, go to payment counter and pay for demo. I was surprised... charges for demo.

Interesting thing is this time also she never said before demo that this demo is chargeable :(

We mentioned that we paid for test, we paid for doctor consultation and multiple medicines now we have to pay for demo as well. They only said, yes!!!

We paid and left and wished to never come back again!!!! Bad-Patient service

Many years ago when I first saw lightning flashes ...

Many years ago when I first saw lightning flashes at the corner of my eyes, I looked out of the window only to see the bright blue sky! It took me more than a year before I checked with my GP, only to be rebuked by him and was immediately referred to SNEC.
My eyes were rigorously examined and put through stringent tests by Dr Ranjana and her team of highly dedicated consultants in the first 6 months. You could say that they were trying to find fault with my eyes, yes, they left no stone unturned!
Understandably, I felt a little anxious and apprehensive each time before the test results. But the nurses and care givers were always there to provide the much needed support.
SNEC also organised talks and seminars for the public and I was fortunate to attend one where I learned how to really look after my precious eyesight. Equally important, I got to know the correct nutritional supplement required to sustain my eye health in the long term.
Besides, I can also do away with the guessing game by getting SNEC optometrist's calibrated refraction report for the optician to make my reading glass.
In these days of Covid-19 global pandemic, my mind boggles as to why there are people who not only refuse to listen to their doctors but unfortunately even rebuked them! On hindsight, I now understand why my GP rebuked me because it's all about the risk of retinal detachment i.e. instant blindness.
Thank you so much to all eye care professionals and care givers at SNEC for providing me with knowledge and guidance on long term sustainable eye care. I am very grateful to be able to run this marathon with SNEC as my partner! HAPPY NURSES DAY!

Amazing service.

Amazing service.

Brought my mom for a checkup and was very surprise by the amazing service. When the cab stop at the door step, a staff came over, help to open door and brought over a wheelchair. Very helpful.

Had some issues finding DMC but Nurses were Super helpful in guiding us.

As per some reviews here, they gave out hot tea and biscuits for elderly while they were waiting. This is good because the aircon is cold.

Registration counter staff was very clear with instructions and the kind of payments. Thankful for the Pioneer card, the bill is management. I couldn't imagine what will it be like if this was in the US.

All in all, thanks to all the staff from SNEC. Especially the Nurses, you all are amazing. Because sometimes elders might not understand why they have to wait for a period of time due to long queue so they might complain, you all were very patient.

We have been coming here two times a year for treatment for many years. Waiting and treatment time will usually take three hours so please be prepared to wait. Doctors are patient and attentive. They serve Milo and biscuits to people waiting.

Work flow is a bit chaotic like system instructions and actual room may not be correct. You have to check with the nurses on the next steps.

Appointments have to be booked way in advance and last-minute changes will be difficult to make. It is just to be expected in a busy hospital. You just have to work with the system.

One of the top eye care centres, not only in this region, but world wide. This institution has got a high repute for providing the best diagnostic and therapeutic services to the eye patients. Waiting time might be long, as the cases that are being treated are quite complex one. I am a UK Consultant Maxillofacial surgeon working in the government NHS and multiple private hospitals for many years. I was a patient as self funding (subsidised by Singapore government according to signage) firstly in A and E Singapore General then 2 days later in the SNEC specialist eye hospital having sustained a foreign body corneal abrasion with the grit under my upper eyelid. My experience was one of politeness, efficiency, excellent communication, appropriate treatment and timing of such. Having spoken to a number of local Singapore citizens this is the norm though clearly not universal practice from other reviewsI see here. I paid almost Singapore $400.00 dollars which in my opinion was value for money. The waiting times and areas were modest to negligible and organised and clean respectively. My SNEC specialist Dr Ranjana Mathur and I had a delightful professional discussion re various health issues after succesfully solving my problem. This country, its systems I have seen and experienced in a long 2 week stay and most importantly its social support systems (I believe), culture, ethics and values are unmatched in my experience.

Followed reddit's suggestion and tried SNEC's Laser Vision Centre (the Lasik Clinic) after a famous private lasik clinic rejected me for surgery concerns.

SNEC does one of the most thorough inspection of the eyes, probably double in duration than a private one, and there were other non-lasik clinics in SNEC that the doctor could sent patients for further diagnostics.

Turns out the private clinic gave a wrong diagnostic and raised wrong concerns that the private clinic probably have no access to. I proceeded with the treatment and felt no pain or discomfort during and after treatment and had 6/6 eyesight the next day. The service was really good and the nurse provided good services as well.

There is no need to go to a fancy private clinic for lasik, just go to the one that has the best resources and done a lot of lasik surgery. Do check out the list of lasik doctors on the SNEC website and take a pick of the one you prefer, or go for the cheaper alternative where they would slot you to any available doctor.

Very inefficient management at the pharmacy on the 3rd flr of National Eye Centre. Waited 2hrs to see a doc but worst of all, waited more than an hour just to collect my eye drop. Also the cashier counter ladies take their own sweet time to process the payment. The whole place is like a fish market.

My first consultation with Dr. Doric Wong was a positive experience. He was so professional and comprehensive in his treatment plan. Bedside manners were excellent. The nursing, technical, and admin staff worked under tremendous pressure, but held their own.

My 80 yr old dad had an appointment on the 3rd June at 230pm. The place was so crowded that he had to wait till 5 plus before he was attend. Surely the clinic can be better at organizing? If it's a walk in then no complains but it's a fixed appointment and for my dad it's painful cause of his poor health
