Silvermine Guild Arts Center has been enriching the Fairfield County area for decades - watch the website for the shows available - - although not big this is a lovely place to visit for art on a rainy or snowy day - The classes for Children and ongoing classes for adults in art, etc. are something that all families and couples should sample - - the staff is always good at what they are teaching - -
A point of reference for Fairfield County s vigorous arts scene, the Silvermine Art Center is an art school and exhibition space with five galleries.
New Canaan s Silvermine community has art in its veins, going back to 1908 when the sculptor Solon Borglum relocated here and established a little colony.
The Silvermine Guild of Artists was founded in 1922, and the school followed a couple of years later and now schedules more than 100 courses each year.
Exhibitions here are accompanied by symposia and panel discussions, and there s an exciting program of lectures and visits by artists, as well as outreach workshops at schools in the area.
HeART & Mind, a landmark exhibition in late 2019, was matched with programs addressing mental health issues and the healing power of art.
As a child, I took classes in art and sculpture at Silvermine Art Guild in the beautiful country surrounding New Canaan, Wilton and Norwalk where the three towns come together. Our instructors were professional artists living in New York City who commuted to the Silvermine section to teach us everything they know. We created amazing artwork manifesting our feelings about life and art.
Love those abstract arts. Their paintings were amazing and insane.
My daughter's Christmas present has just been RUINED! The powers that be at Silvermine Art Guild decided to cancel her class because "not enough people" signed up!? WHAT ARE WE? To add insult to injury, we had to drive an hour just to get there, and no one was professional enough to notify us that the class was cancelled.... BUT they still took our MONEY!!And my daughter still has no Christmas present!!! They deserve to be shut down - I don't see any respect for the tradition they so highly tout!
I'm in love with the place! All the experiences we had back there were amazing! We just threw our daughter's birthday party there and all kids loved the workshop, instructor and the place itself! The staff are amazing, very helpful and efficient! Totally recommend!
I take classes at Silvermine as often as my schedule allows. The instruction helps me realize my potential as an artist.
