Siam Vit is a student chapter of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT). The organization aims to promote the study, research, and application of mathematics in various fields such as engineering, science, technology, finance, and industry. Siam Vit provides a platform for students to enhance their knowledge and skills in mathematics through various activities such as seminars, workshops, competitions, projects, and networking.
The society was established in 2015 by a group of enthusiastic students who shared a common interest in mathematics. Since then, Siam Vit has grown into one of the most active student chapters of SIAM with over 100 members from different disciplines such as computer science engineering (CSE), electronics and communication engineering (ECE), mechanical engineering (ME), civil engineering (CE), biotechnology (BT), physics (PHY), chemistry (CHEM) and mathematics.
Siam Vit is committed to promoting excellence in industrial and applied mathematics by providing its members with opportunities to learn from experts in the field. The society regularly invites renowned mathematicians from academia and industry to deliver talks on cutting-edge topics related to applied mathematics. These talks cover diverse areas such as optimization theory, numerical analysis, computational fluid dynamics(CFD), data analytics & machine learning(DAML) , mathematical modeling & simulation(MMS) , cryptography & network security(CNS) , game theory etc.
In addition to talks by experts outside VIT campus,Siam vit also conducts internal seminars where members present their own research work or share their experiences on internships or projects related to applied mathemetics . This helps them gain valuable feedback from peers which can help them improve their work further.
Siam Vit also organizes workshops on various software tools used for mathematical modeling,simulation,data analysis etc like MATLAB,R,Minitab etc .These workshops are conducted by experts from industry and academia who provide hands-on training to the participants. This helps students to gain practical knowledge and skills which can be applied in their future careers.
Siam Vit also conducts various competitions such as coding contests, mathematical modeling challenges, data analytics challenges etc. These competitions provide a platform for students to showcase their skills and compete with their peers from other institutions.
