The Sheraton Commander is a lovely hotel. The service was excellent and the room was very comfortable.
Attended a celebratory brunch in one of the ballrooms. The food was great, service was attentive, and it was overall an excellent experience.
Elegant hotel a short walk from Harvard Square. The area is pretty quiet, but that can be a big plus, since I've stayed in the middle of Harvard Square, which can be fairly noisy late at night. Rooms are well appointed, with a really comfortable bed and nice furnishings. WiFi was reasonably fast. Front desk service warm and friendly. Didn't try fitness center or restaurant this time.
Easy location right next to Harvard when visiting Cambridge. Nice lounge for afternoon snacks.
The only place I spend most of my life at. My Commander Family... Love Them
Only one flaw. I am paying far too much to not get free breakfast.
I've only had lunch there, but the offerings are solid and reasonable.
The rooms on the club level were great with the free breakfast. But the breakfast options downstairs where left to be desired, as we had people who where staying in other floors with us. Also the elevators could use an update
This is a venerable accommodation, very convenient to Harvard Square. It has a decent bar restaurant. For those of you who remember the bicentennial years, a bonus for lovers of colonialitikitsch like me there s a diorama (just like they used to make them) of George Washington on horseback addressing the troops. Did it all go down this way and did the army employ the semicircular oratorical method? That almost doesn t matter, you remind yourself: you re looking at a diorama and people don t build those anymore. Maybe that s history enough?
Had construction but good staff and queries quiet location. Sheets are a bit stiff.
Nice place. Great staff. Central to Havard Square. Nubar is a fine restaurant. But. Room 503. Looong wait for luke warm water. Bathroom faucet handles loose falling off. Toilet not anchored to floor and toilet seat falling off. Bathroom door hinges loudly squeak. Some ants in bathroom. 503 needs some attention
Location..close to Harvard Square....
.good amenities for members
Very clean and well supplied and staffed. A bit crowded set up but not necessarily at the fault of the Hotel staff
Great hotel, comfortable beds and convenient to Harvard Square
The staff is great at this hotel and the location is ideal if you're in the Harvard area of Cambridge. It's a short walk to plenty of restaurants and bars. The rooms and hallways have been refurbished to make them lighter, which was an earlier complaint. The elevators (one in particular) are badly in need of renovation, but it's hard given the age of the building. Pro tip: the concierge lounge has a great selection of snacks in the evening, a soup, a pasta dish, and some finger foods.
Excellent hotel. Parking on premise , club lounge , great restaurant, big clean well provided room and super nice attentive service.
Downstairs conference area is quite nice if a little small.
Great welcome gift, but the rooms are a told old. Very centrally located
The staff was very friendly and the service was great, but the food was fairly bland.
Second time attending a conference there, and just as nice this time around. Catering is Sodexo, and classy. The conference rooms are lovely, well heated (extra important when in professional woman outfits) and comfortable.
The room was nice and clean. The hotel is in great location near Harvard Square. However, parking situtation can be tough
Was there for a party which was marvelously set up and great although a bit small party room.
Attended for Harvard OCS event. Stellar service from the hotel.
We ate at the Nubar restaurant, just a sandwich but nicely done
Very cozy, clean and confortable hotel. Friendly and helpful staff.
I like sheraton elvis works for 10 years is nice experience the cheff tom is ono of the best cheff in boston
The location is great and the lounge has good food. Though the rooms are clean and comfortable, the hotel does feel old.
Very convenient to Harvard Square and the red line on the T. Got shocked by the bedside lamp though!
OMG I'm so grateful to Everyone for All their Help on my behalf while I go thru a Difficult Divorce and I Truly needed such a sweet and happy Hotel as my Temporary Home. Thank you All for Everything, Everywhere, I Truly appreciate ALL that you do for me. An Extra Big Thank you to the Front Desk Team for being so Patient and Understanding with me during my Difficult Time, especially Caitlin, George and all the other sweet Angels, please Forgive me for not remembering All your names,
all my LOVE, Ms Jenica Popa
Great hotel. Friendly and well kept. Helpful and accomadating. Great location, we loved it.
Great location. Friendly staff. Nubar in-house restaurant with good quality food (buffet breakfast also offered). If you opt for the "Green Option" room won't be made daily but you get $5 per night to spend in restaurant or add as SPG points.
I only went to the nubar -- decent food for a decent price. I might go again. The waitstaff was nice.
The location is easily accessible. The rooms are spacious and comfortable beds. The service is great, overall a great experience.
Nice place to stay in Cambridge. Close to everything.
Good location near Havard Yard, restaurants and the Havard Subway stop. Rooms are ok.
Great location if visiting Harvard. Nubar is good for drinks and appetizers but Harvard Square, 5 min walk away, has awesome variety of restaurants to try!
Love this place and stay here whenever we visit our daughters at Harvard. Really going to miss it when they graduate!
Close to Harvard Yard, Cambridge Commins and the Square, which are all about 5-10 minutes of walking.
Hotel is nicely up to date with good service, but some places smelled like tobacco smoke. Good location if you're visiting Harvard, especially the law school.
Nice, large room close to Harvard and Harvard Square's T station.
Great hotel. Spacious rooms, nice furnishings. Bar and restaurant downstairs are good too.
Maid tried to clean room before check out..twice. Room key deactivated trying to enter room at 330am. Had a hard time at the front desk to reactivate. Bar was nice tho. Would only go there again for drinks.
Clean, sexy, beautiful, professional service and most inportant good foog
Front desk should have let people know that parking comes out of incidentals. Especially When you don't have to much on your card and was not informed of these fees.
The front desk was patronizing.
As a platinum member and only Sheraton user I have to say I am very disappointed in this Hotel.
Great value in an historic hotel. Not far at all from downtown Cambridge.
Was there for a ball for a professional event. The staff was quick and professional, the room used was big and spacious. There is an overhead balcony in the room that doesn't have a good view of the floor below, but that's not too important for a ball.
Nice hotel. However, we arrived late after a long travel day and were famished. The only restaurant (Nubar) closes at Midnight but stopped serving at 11:25, and wouldn't even serve a beer, even the restaurant was empty. Moreover, there were no snacks to be found in the hotel, and nothing convenient nearby. It felt like the 1950s..
The fifth floor accommodations were well furnishes, clean, and beautiful. The complementary lounge on the sixth floor made the stay much more entertaining for my family. Easy access to Harvard Square and the tube station. Cheers to a good stay!
Really nice and clean. The rooms are kind of small .
Great staff, clean room. Expensive, but great location.
Great place to stay. Staff was friendly and helpful. It's right near Harvard university and very close to the redline train station.
My girlfriend and I had a very quiet time at the Sheraton Commander. We didn't eat at the restaurant or order room service, nor did we have much communication with staff other than checking in and out. The hotel is within walking distance of Harvard Square and the subway. Room was spotless and spacious. Overall, we enjoyed the peace and quiet and lack of issues with our stay and would return.
Incompetent service and overpriced rooms. For one thing, their website does not disclose what the cancellation policy is. The email confirmation also fails to state what the cancellation policy is. I have called twice and the people answering cannot email what the cancellation policy is. The central reservations desk said that all they can do is email the hotel (and the email is not disclosed on the hotel's website) and ask them to email the policy to me.
Service is not the best, we had to ask for soap and shampoo, lack of basics from house cleaning.
Very nice staff. Attached restaurant is good. A bit pricey tho.
EDIT: Revised Rating from 4 to 3 - feels even more mediocre place. During my first stay had a room with great view, turns out there is only one series with the best views - remaining all have either parking garage views or indoor views - to be fair, i am staying only on one side of hotel - try your luck for decent views on the right side of hotel!

Only the second place I have stayed in Cambridge area - the other one was le meridian Cambridge - I can say both places have pros and cons. Short answer - le Meridian is better marginally!
Sheraton definitely has better facilities like club access and an American style of food cuisine whereas le meridian has an European taste to it, the facilities are up to par, not the best in quality; but unless you are accustomed to 7-star stays, you should be good
The only significant distinguishing factor is staff service - Sheraton is very deviant from its reputation here, with the staff not welcoming - on contrary le meridians staff is appropriately welcoming!
Our stay was for 3 nights we chose to go green and not have the bedding and towels changed daily. The room was nice, the hotel clean. I was most disapointed with the fact that after sending 4 emails to management regarding the charges for a cup of coffee and a dry english muffin was $17.00 and at the time of check out they charged another $4.00 for a bottle of water that was provided in the room. There was nothing on this bottle of water that stated that if you drank it was going to cost you. We assumed it was complimentary and thought perhaps the hotel water was not drinkable.
Would I stay again at this hotel....No I would not.
I work in the area and got a hotel for an overnight we were doing at the company. My company paid the bill thankfully so I'm not sure of the value this was. I can say however the beds were so so comfortable and the service was amazing. After a long long day in the office a few of my colleagues and I decided to grab a drink at the bar. The bartender was amazing the atmosphere was great and the prices weren't that bad. The only downside was they closed the bar really early on a Saturday for Cambridge, midnight. I'm not going to fault them for that though because I did need to get up early the next day. Overall though it was a great stay. I would definitely stay here again given the chance.
I recently stayed at the Sheraton Commander while attending a conference at the Harvard School of Education. Although the exterior is not particularly " commanding", once inside, the lobby is very warm and friendly. The front desk staff were top notch and although I arrived early, they promised to call if my room was available sooner than expected. Indeed, they called to follow through and my bags were waiting in my room when I arrived back at the hotel.
As a single traveler, I found the restaurant and bar to be very comfortable and inviting. Good food here - the same for room service.
However, the key to my five stars was this. My husband gave me a pair of beautiful earrings for my birthday. I brought them with me and apparently stupidly left them in a drawer. Once home after a long trip, I searched everywhere for the earrings and called most of the hotels that I had stayed at with no luck. When I called this one, a month after my trip, Ms Ortez of housekeeping said she would check the log and call back - AND CALL BACK THEY DID WITHIN AN HOUR. After a long and thorough confirmation process, they said that they had my earrings in safekkeeping.
I once left my Ipad on an Air New Zealand business class flight and called within an hour with no response. I tried for months to follow through with no response. This incident had a great outcome a month after it happened! Their honesty and integrity was so impressive that I had to write a review - first time ever. Thank you, Sheraton Commander.
Limited street parking and only valet parking available.
Best hotel ever! Historic, hip, clean, like an apartment and in the mudst of everything.
Nice enough place as far as hotels go. Classic feel to it. Don't know if it has changed but they Have a tiny, old elevator that can basically only hold three people it seemed like.
Stayed here for a conference at Harvard and the hotel is within walking distance. Worst hotel pillows ever. My head felt like it sank right through 3 of them stacked up together. This led to a bad neck ache. I was there 3 days and no room clean up either. I've stayed here before and had a solid experience. I'm not sure what's changed in a year.
Friendly staff, excellent amenities and scenic property.
Clean rooms, excellent service, well located for Harvard events
Great upgrades to a classic hotel. Excellent common area spaces have really freshened this place up!
This is one of the few hotels that I have been to that, instead of spending all their money on a grand lobby, put that money towards providing nice, comfortable, and spacious guest rooms. The beds are very comfortable, as are normally expected of a Starwood hotel. The best part is the clean-feeling linens and bedsheets. NO gaudy bed spreads! The carpet seems and feels clean--although one has no way to tell, I do not feel the need to wear slippers when I am at this hotel. Sound proofing seems to work well in the rooms since I have never encountered any noise problem when staying there. I would say it is a solid Sheraton Hotel, unlike many of the newly minted Sheratons that are diluting the brand name, IMO.
