I'm sure this place would have been incredible to visit 25 years ago. Unfortunately, the current Shaolin Temple is nothing more than a place designed to extract money from tourists, with history only tangentially related. Most of the buildings have been built recently, with little regard for history except for their location. The religious aspects of the temple, which existed long before the advent of kung fu, are essentially non-existent now; instead it's kung fu this and kung fu that. The monks spend most of their time on their cell phones or sitting by donation boxes looking board. The athleticism displayed in the kung fu show is impressive but the facility where you watch it is so small and cramped, odds are slim you'll find a spot you can see the show, and if you do, it's only because you were able to withstand and fight back against the pushing and elbowing of Chinese tourists trying to get inside as quickly as possible. Monks on cell phones, souvenir and food stands all over the place, this was one of the least worthwhile things I've seen in China. Only reason I'm not giving it a lower rating is because the history is there (albeit hidden), the surrounding scenery is incredible, and the temple is a stone's throw from the central of the five sacred mountains of China, as well as the supposed ancient capital of the mythical Xia Dynasty
this temple of dhamu (buddhi dharman) first teacher of kung fu and he was a indian
I am from Malay Xixi and I am a disciple of Shaolin in the south.
Shaolin Temple is a beautiful temple with rich history! Although it was rainy and cold (when I visited it), the place still look cool! There is a Shaolin kungfu performance (~30 mins) here, which you need to watch it when you come here. When you travel to Xi 'an, this is a must-look! Note: the coloured flags in picture 5 means they're doing some ceremony.
Good, but not fantastic. Shoalin demonstration was a bit of a let down.
WOW !!! what else can I say, the place is wonderful, full of history, the gardens are very well kept .... although there were strange warnings in English
Great expierence, lots to see and do. The king th show is also very good
The architecture of the buildings and the set that they conform is certainly special. There thousands of students from many parts of the world are attracted to the good work of teachers.
A station where the train of life at least once must also stop here.
I have been visiting it for many years now, a very beautiful place where many Chinese children meet, it is like an orphanage school where they learn and practice kun fu, highlighting their figures and the shaolin show they perform.
Beautiful, serene, peaceful, vibrant... A historical place where you will lose yourself in the beauty of the temple and the nature surrounding it
A good temple to go as an old burial mound. If you go to the top of the mountain, you need considerable time and physical strength.
If you look only at the lower side and Enbu, half a day is enough.
Although it has been renewed by constructing here and there, it is convenient
The atmosphere is considerably shaved.
In addition, Enbu has a fixed time and begins to line up in front of the gate about 30 minutes ago, but seats are limited
People who could not sit may stand in front or in the aisle, so be careful about the seating location.
If you don't make it in time, you can see it from the second floor.
Enbu begins with sales of books and a mysterious spot sale so if you don't have to sit down, the first 5 minutes are meaningless.
Personally, I think that the practice at the lower playground is more like Shaolin Temple than the Enbu show, which is performed by specialists.
Nice place, nice temple, kept in quite good condition
The show I have seen was short and hug made for tourist attraction..
Quite cheap the fee.
So i like shoulin temple because this temple instelatioin is India great master bodhi dharman therefore there Kung Fu and any type art tech love you temple
Beautiful, peaceful location of choice for the escaped from busy city life!
Beautiful mountain and beautiful peaceful Buddhist monks!
Don't miss eating at the Shaolin Vegeterian!
This place is very wide for a little time. Come to walk, take 3-4 hours, otherwise not complete
Really cool place! If you get the chance to go I would definitely recommend it! And get the full pass. It will get you access to everything, including the demonstration, which was so cool! Be careful buying a sword there if you have to take a train. Thankfully we were able to take care of it. The hike up the mountain is hard but totally worth it! Be sure to give yourself a lot of time there. There is a lot of cool things to see and experience!
The original Shaolin temple. The place is huge so expect lots of walking. For the lazies, there are shuttle services within the temple and park.
The kung fu show was awesome.
Beautiful temple but it seems to make an intrusion into their privacy where the dormitories are ajar. I thought they would be outside (in the yard) practicing. But the training is done elsewhere I think
Took the trip from Luoyang, up through the mountains, to this amazing place.
Good afternoon my name is Jesus and all I want to say is I'm a dealing with lots of evil and hate in my heart and no longer want to exist in society. Ive made the worst choices in life and have hurt people in search of vengeance. I need help with becoming what I know i have to become and disappear. Buddha in asking for releaf.
I am Indian and I proud of Indian martial art to boddidarman
Must visit. Revisit childhood shaolin movies memory.
Shaolin Temple, a place that can only be seen in Chinese martial arts, a place that was established by the Dharma ambassador, and below Shaolin Temple there is a place where small children live and practice. It feels a bit excited to see the places that are likely to appear in the martial arts.
I love Kung Fu so much. I trained all my moves and all my methods, and I got them. I have 777 Barco's goats, and I went there. Life was amazing.
Grandmaster of Shaolin Kung Fu, Douwe ter Horst really got the skills. He is teaching me private lesson and i am very happy with it.
Wowewwwwwwwwwwww
Cool place in China
Love this place
Wow
Temple
Historical place
Very beautiful and impressive since I have been living in China for 4 years and I am really training and I have 3rd grade black tape
Located in Daishan County, Henan Province, it is solemn and full of mystery!
i am an 13 years old child and i am an foreigner can i learn kung fu
Contact me if possible. Need to break out physically. Need a teacher in Calvados. Thank you
Shwlin temple very beutiful and culteral i wish i am coming soon...
Clam meditate nice scenery and so many Kung Fu students
There is no feeling of a temple at all, and the monks are all small traders. This is like a Buddhist site...
Can anyone become a shaolin monk or can anyone train there? Because in 15 but mabey when Im older I would like to
Very peaceful and beautiful. To see the monks train kinda gives you a sense of just how insignificant your way of life actually is.
Kung fu is a lethal art made to kill I like it a lot and also le encina to be a polite person, onesta and etc well kung fu is great
Unfortunately it wasn't built in the original location ..
A very nice mountain temple, good for hiking and walking around. It's not very overtly kung fu-y, or at least the parts we visited were not. That wasn't really a disappointment to me, but I can see how it could be for some people.
I am learn Shaolin Kung Fu and I am interesting for Shaolin Kung Fu
Visiting the Shaolin Temple while in Zhengzhou was absolutely the best part of my visit to China. Trees as old as 1500 years old, the beautiful Shaolin performance by the students and the amazing Scenic scenery. There are tour guildes available to guilde you through and tell the history of the ancient Shaolin temple. I was literally the only brown skin girl visiting the temple amongest 100hundreds of Visitors. You should put this place on your bucket list..
Originally, Shaolin Temple was still cleaned in Buddhism, the environment was quiet and aura, and the children of Buddhism were rehabilitated. Kung Fu was still a child of Buddhism, and then others were deified. After that, people now have to pay for it and become too commercialized. Now we can only see that the historical sites in the past can be traced.
The scenery is not bad, but the martial arts performance is a bit weak.
Everyone see that damo is from india ,kanchipuram, so he is our right
I would very much like to participate in teaching ...
But I am 40 years old I practice judo for 28 years and American boxing for 10 years ...
I'm very impressed...
Respectfully Michael Ferrazzi
Very nice attraction with decent price and beautiful scenery. Went on a rainy day, couldn't see much on the mountain as it's covered with fog. The large crowd is expected in most of China's tourist attractions.
