I love seeing how the community reaches out to those who are less fortunate and especially during the pandemic. Forrest Gilmore is an amazing gentleman and the staff that works with him is loving and caring.

My husband and I have been homeless now for a year. We did stay at their shelter but it was only 90 days. The director, Lanora, stated it was an emergency shelter and that the clients couldn t stay pass 90 days. Well there was a woman in there when we were and at the end she had stayed a total of 10 1/2 months. There are others that are still there men and women that were there when we were. We were made to leave 11/25/2019. 3 days before Thanksgiving. We have been living in a tent since then. I landed in the hospital for 3 days with pneumonia. I have been approved for one of Shalom s programs but it s been about 3 weeks since I signed paperwork for release of info and background check. I m starting to get sick again with this weather going back and forth.

I was buying a car from next door(wheels a/s) and people were asking me for money from me while looking over vehicles. During that time a lady is screaming non-sense. A fight was breaking out across the street. I feel terrible for the businesses around the area. Trash everywhere. A liquor bottle was thrown across the fence during my time there as well. I am all for helping people but this place needs to be isolated on another side of town. Get it together bloomington!

For you, those who wish to leave remarks here of your own disdain, how about instead of griping about the problems from "The Center" why don't you get involved get off your rear and volunteer? If you don't like the way things are going there then stop griping about how it needs changed and volunteer so you can help solve your own issues and have a voice in the affairs of the community! True change only comes from our own actions! If you don't act by volunteering to help institute change then don't gripe.

The Shalom center does not believe in holding its clients accountable and that has caused the neighborhood lots of problems. We are not safe in our homes and are threatened daily by those hanging out in our front yard.
Shalom center believes that if we house all of their clients, then the problem is solved. They have the privilege of banning the clients that misbehave and refuse to help the neighbors and business in dealing with these trouble makers. I pass by the Wheeler mission 2 time a day and the place is clean and patrons are well behaved. They do not shout profanities at people who pas by.

Shalom Community center has been a valuable asset to me during my challenge to overcome lifelonh poverty that i was born into and left with due to improper planning and pride on the part of my Father. I encourage all who are able, to visit, volunteer and or contribute in some way to this positive force of community social activism. Nuff said.
