Servants Anonymous Society of Calgary: Providing Comprehensive Support and Safe Housing to Women and Girls Exiting Sexual Exploitation and Sex Trafficking
Servants Anonymous Society of Calgary (SAS) is a non-profit organization that has been providing comprehensive individualized support and safe housing to women and girls age 16 and over exiting sexual exploitation and sex trafficking since 1981. SAS is committed to empowering women who have experienced trauma, abuse, addiction, poverty, homelessness, or other challenges by providing them with the tools they need to rebuild their lives.
SAS offers a range of programs designed to meet the unique needs of each woman or girl who comes through its doors. These programs include:
1. Safe Housing: SAS provides safe housing for up to 24 women at any given time in its two residential facilities located in Calgary. The houses are staffed 24/7 by trained professionals who provide emotional support, case management services, life skills training, education assistance, employment support, health care referrals as well as access to legal aid.
2. Outreach Services: SAS also provides outreach services for women who are not ready or able to enter into residential programming but still require support. Outreach workers provide street-level outreach services including harm reduction supplies such as condoms & clean needles; food & clothing; transportation assistance; crisis intervention; advocacy & accompaniment.
3. Education Programs: SAS offers educational programming that includes basic literacy skills development classes such as reading comprehension & writing skills development classes like resume writing workshops which help prepare clients for employment opportunities.
4. Employment Support Services: SAS helps clients find meaningful employment opportunities through job search assistance including resume building workshops; interview preparation sessions; job placement services etc.
5. Health Care Referrals: SAS provides referrals for medical care including mental health counseling services when needed.
6. Legal Aid Assistance: SAS assists clients with accessing legal aid resources when necessary such as immigration law issues related specifically around human trafficking cases etc.
