In 1396 AH (1976 AD) a royal decree was issued to establish the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) to invest the Kingdom's hydrocarbon and mineral wealth, and to convert it into industrial products with high added value to diversify the sources of national income, and to contribute to the development of the manufacturing, construction and agricultural sectors and to strengthen its role in the Saudi economy.

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu worked to develop Jubail and Yanbu from two fishing villages into two modern industrial cities with the latest infrastructure equipment, while SABIC began establishing factories. In 19833 AD, the first joint venture began in production, followed by the establishment of several subsidiaries. We are now in the expansion phases, strengthening our position among the fastest growing companies in the world.

In 1985 AD the total production capacity of the company reached (2,6) million metric tons, and at the end of the year 2000 the production of the company reached (35) million metric tons, and at the end of 2007 AD, the company's production reached (55) million metric tons, and the company plans that Become one of the largest industrial companies by the year 2020 AD, and after 30 years of humble beginnings of the company, we have a place among the leading global petrochemical companies.
