Beautiful exhibitions. This place is lovely. Built by a harem queen!!! Yeah for queens!

The queue to get in is not so bad early in the day, but by mid day it is an hour wait in the blazing sun.

Joe would love this place!

Best place to visit in Istanbul. Was a church, then a mosque, now a museum. A vast majority of Conservatives have trouble accepting that it's not a mosque anymore. Education needs a complete overhaul here.

Though it is termed as museum there are no exhibits as such here. This one of the moat or rather the most iconic place of Istanbul. The structure itself is a huge exhibit. Visit this place to witness its grand scale and experience history. Entry fees is 60 Turkish Liras. This place is covered in the Museum Pass as well. You can go to the upper floor as well. Worth visiting once. They also have a short video explaining the history of this place in the area on left after you enter the structure. There are remains of the old Hagia Sophia outside that were found in excavation. The campus also hosts the tomb of sultan but that part is not open for visitors or at least it wasn't when I visited.

Hagia Sophia museum is a great place you can't find like it easily. This old building has been severely ruined and rebuilt again.
Here the culture of two completely different culture and religion "Christianity of byzantine ages and Islam of ottoman empire" stands face to face and also mixes to each other.
Every wall, every terrace, every column and even every brick seems to have an story to tell.
Where you can find a mix like this?
On the wall near the roof you can see big hanged panels with name of "Allah" and other Islamic holy icons written in arabic and just a little higher on the roof you can see a drawing of the God the Father just above them.
Do you like history? Do you want to be amazed? So Hagia Sophia is just a right place for you to visit.

Beautiful and peaceful landmark location in Istanbul. There's a lovely park nearby and plenty of food options. I prefer coming here at night time, it's quite beautiful and humbling.

The infrastructure is amazing and it's a short 8 minute walk from the tram station.

An old Orthodox Cathedral, then a Roman Catholic Church, then a mosque and now a museum... phew!! this place has seen many changes. The architecture is superb and you can see a combination of Islamic and Byzantine architecture. The massive dome and the antiques with the murals of Jesus and huge Islamic signs will definitely make your jaw drop

Good for sightseeing, but it only takes an hour to 2 to explore everything. Price is around 72 tl per person, turkish students are 30 tl, fast track (skip the long line) with tour guide is 102 tl per person.

Absolutely stunning!!
Keep an eye out for a cat walking around - he hangs out inside the Hagia Sophia and apparently people post pictures with him on Instagram!

Stendhal syndrome
One of my most lucid memories, from when I was in primary school, was a photo, in our history/social sciences textbook, of the mosaics in Hagia Sophia... Seeing the Pantocrator in situ was like time travelling: an out of body sperience

It is amazing to image this place was built 1500 years ago and it is still in such good condition. I recommend an audio tour that you download on your phone because this place has so much history!

At the entrance there are 2 lanes. One is express lane (you skip the queue) which is more expensive.
Non express lane moves fairly fast but also there are ticket machines where you can pay by credit card and then you don't have to join the queue for tickets. I am yet to understand why these machines are placed in such a way that you don't see them until the queue has moved forward by few meters. People who pay express fee are shocked to see these machines after they have paid cash for express entrance and walked few meters towards the entrance!

It is pretty expensive but once inside you just forget about it. Such a big peace of historical heritage, perfect balance of 2 religious backgrounds. You feel like in a dream taken back to ancient times.

Stunning 1,500-year-old church and later mosque, filled with historical curiosities like the ancient Greek door (apparently made with wood from Noah's ark), the Wishing Column, and several enormous ancient Greek jars carved from single blocks of marble. Must-see in Istanbul.

The internal architecture is of course breathtaking, but the waiting line was too long, it took me almost an hour to get my ticket. And there were scaffold inside the building renovating internal walls which spoiled the pure enjoyment of the place.

Expected much more. The building itself is the museum. There are no artefacts there. It's more. Beautiful from the outside. It is also in constant refurbishment and restoration hence all the scaffoldings whole year round.
