My mother spent 2 weeks in the rehab facility at Santa Marta, after breaking her hip. While no one wants to have a family member in rehab, this was the best possible experience we could have had. From the second we walked in the door, we were greeted by members of her care team and the admissions staff. She was introduced to the nurses, had vitals taken, and was shown to her room. We had experienced the complete opposite just a couple of days before at another facility, so this was such a great feeling, it nearly brought me to tears.
Over the next day or so, we met each member of her care team, nurses, aides, therapists, dining staff, and housekeepers. Each one took a special interest in my mom, of course, but also made a point of meeting our family members and making sure we were all comfortable in this situation. They even remembered OUR names!
My mom likes a specific kind of ice cream, and my dad found out we could bring it in, and the kitchen staff would keep it for us. When I took it to the dining room, I was amazed that Amy knew who I was and who my mother was before I even said a word. The attention to detail by this staff is incredible. Jinan, Breanna, and the rest of the dining staff was just as attentive and detailed.
My mom received Physical, Occupational and Speech/Cognitive Therapy while at Santa Marta. Kate, Cassie, Tyson, Jill, Natalie, and Kelsey were the kindest, most encouraging group of people. They took great care of Mom while helping her to get stronger each day.
As for the nursing staff, there are not words enough to describe their care. They are sweet, sensitive, attentive, helpful, knowledgeable, kind, funny, enthusiastic and so much more. Cici, Herane, Lily, and many others that I didn't catch their names, all knew who Mom was and took such great care of her.
I feel like Mom was treated as if she was a member of each Santa Marta staff's very own family. That's the kind of care you want in any medical situation and it was so refreshing.
There are a few others who deserve recognition as well - Riley in Admissions was incredible. Stephanie, the Social Worker was extremely helpful, and Lindsay, the Assistant Nursing Director was kind and caring and kept up with Mom's progress.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Like I said before, I hope we don't need to see you all again, but if we do, it will be like coming home.
