My wife called accute care because she was concern...

My wife called accute care because she was concerned about a potential blood clot in her leg. They told her that if we went to accute care and it turned out to be a blood clot they would have to take her to the ER in an ambulance, so it would be better if we just went to the ER to get it checked ourselves. When we arrived they couldn t figure out the insurance she has through their hospital, messed up her chart then blamed it on her for not using her maiden name upon sign in. (she s been married for 4 years and the last time she had visited this hospital it was called Sioux valley 20 or so years ago) Then the doctor came in and basically laughed at us for thinking this potential leg blood clot was serious and explained to us that only certain leg clots are to be concerned about. He told us we didn t need any tests because they were too expensive, like that was the biggest issue for us, and at one point he even chuckled as he asked my wife if she was going to lose any sleep over her non serious blood clot . We appreciate being able to receive care when we need it but this is still a service we are paying for and you treating us like we were idiots for going to the ER after we were told to go there is the reason people die at home with symptoms all the time because they are more scared something is not wrong with them and they will be embarrassed than they are of something actually being wrong with them. Overall bad experience.

terrible care, I would call it abusive care is wha...

terrible care, I would call it abusive care is what they gave my husband on the rehab floor. It was Dr ordered that he have a constant observer, but they would not staff one. he had a severe brain injury, 2 shattered wrists that they refused to acknowledge until the OT request xrays, which they claimed showed no damage, but they had been taken over 2 years ago! They would not even put braces on his wrist because he wouldn't keep them on without constant reminders. He was falling and using his broken wrists all the time. It was 3 weeks before anyone would take xrays. I was told if I wanted to keep my husband safe, then I would have to pay for and supply an RN to be in his room at all times. I had requested he do his rehab at Madonna hospital, but they found a day that I went to work and had him sign himself into their rehab even tho the speech theapy notes on that day say that she asked him to repeat 3 words and he was able to repeat 0! I have made many many request for answers and cannot get anyone to speak to me or address these issues! They should not be caring for Brain injuries!

My wife and I always had decent care with Sanford,...

My wife and I always had decent care with Sanford, some doctors/nurses were spectacular, some didn't seem to care much, which I'm sure you will find anywhere. The only issue we've had is with Sanford's billing policy. We were just billed for an office visit from 11.5 month ago, we paid for the care and medicine at the time of the visit, but they forgot to charge us $30 for the visit, come to find out Sanford has a year to bill you?? It doesn't seem professional to forget to charge a patient for care, then have 1 year to correct your mistake. I doubt I would have 1 year to pay my bill without some kind of repercussion. Do I need to worry about anymore surprise bills from Sanford? Do I have to make sure they are billing me the full amount every time we need healthcare? It was a very small amount, but it leaves me feeling unconfident in Sanfords competency.
