The best zoo in the world. Can t beat the variety of animals they have and the quality of the exhibits. The zoo is huge and if you are a zoo fan, it s like being a kid in the candy store. It was my second time here and spent 4 hours. You could spend much more time if you wanted. My favorite part was noticing that animals seemed much healthier and happier in their exhibits here than any other zoo I ve been to. A must stop in San Diego

Great zoo with many animals. So why am I only giving it 3 stars? Nobody would discuss the reasons why they lived at the zoo. I asked multiple employees and it was like a scripted answer.

I wanted to inquire as to whether or the animals were rescued. They always answered, "we're preserving endangered species and completing research".

The tiger was placed in a small enclosure and seemed to pace. Clearly he wanted to get out and run.

I loved the San Diego zoo! I got to see animals I've never seen before and surprisingly most of them were pretty active throughout the day. It's definitely worth going for the whole day, I thought I could do it in 2-3hrs but ended up spending 6hrs there exploring! I recommend asking one of the zoo volunteers at the entrance the best way to see the park because: it's pretty big, has quite a few steep walking areas, you have to be strategic w/ the transportation pickup/drop-off locations, and one side is more shaded than the other.

Food, drinks, and souvenirs are overpriced just like any other zoo/amusement park/similar attraction. And though the entrance fee is pricey, it includes almost all of the zoo transportation within (the on & off 'kangaroo' bus, the bus w/ a guide/tour, and the skyfari) which was more than worth it to me! If you shop around you can easily find discounts, I did the "build your own pass" with the Go San Diego Card.

Arrived Sunday morning around 10 AM and immediately went on the double decker bus tour. Got right on with less than a five minute wait. Took some pictures and then revisited the parts I was interested in. It is also worth going on the lift at back of the park. There is much less of a line going from the back to the front of the park.

Best zoo experience.
Do the bus ride first, there are a lot I'd hilly terrain.

Full disclosure, I am an annual pass holder, so I am generally happy with my zoo visit, today however, my experience at the annual pass desk was less than stellar today but we worked through it. We took the bus tour and am glad I it is included in my ticket, er went to approximately 5 enclosures and saw no animals. Even with these less than stellar experiences, the San Diego Zoo is something to experience and enjoy, multiple times. As a visitor to San Diego, stop by the many visitor centers and enjoy a coupon for $5 the zoo or safari park, each coupon good for up to 6 people.

Beautiful place to visit and relaxing. It was packed yesterday highly recommend wearing sneakers when you visit alot of walking. Very beautiful and serene environment for the animals and people.

I absolutely loved this zoo. Sadly I came to the zoo with only 3 hours till closing. 3 hours is not enough for one day. This zoo is huge with so many animals. The animals seem happy too, I saw a giraffe that when they recognized the zoo keeper it got so happy and galloped towards them. The zoo was clean, and the staff was nice. Bring comfy shoes, there is a lot of walking and hills, but they do have shuttles. I recommend taking the tour first thing so you can plan your day. The merchandise is nice too, I can't stop wearing my "save the cubby unicorn" sweater, it has a rhino on it. Highly recommend this zoo, and if you do not wish to spend too much money bring your own food. It's pricy inside, but lots of options.

What an amazing experience! Each section of the zoo was very well kept and captured the essence of the intended ecosystem. I walked the entire zoo during my visit and it felt like I was traveling the world. The zookeeper talks were very informative, the information and trivia signs throughout the zoo were interesting, and even the food was better than expected! Definitely worth a visit.

It was not what I expected it to be! It seemed they only had two, if not just one of each animal. The animals did not seem happy. The Tampa, Fl zoo and or Busch Gardens beats this zoo by far. Security was not enforced. I did not see not one security official neither was there any type of bag checks. For such a huge and well known park one would think they'd have security and way more entertainment for the public. Been there done it... not going again.

Amazing! The sky carriages are awesome and a great way to get to the top of the park. The free bus tour is fun also, I recommend sitting on the bottom level on the passenger side for the best views. Food in the park is expensive, I would BYO if possible.

Most of the animals I couldn t see it , and the second half of them were sleeping..
The paths isn t clear, but if you want to walk for 10 mails this place good choice to go.
There s some restaurants, toys, and restrooms.
It is very expensive.

I would go to this zoo everyday if I could! As a visitor from Idaho, I didn't know what to expect, but this exceeded all my expectations! Great staff who cares about the animals and conservation efforts. My family and I are planning another trip to get back as soon as possible.

Best zoo I have seen in my lifetime. It's massive and it has a number of different animals. Follow the maps and signs well as the zoo can be complex to navigate. The highlight for us was the panda section. And we weren't disappointed. Also saw grizzly bears and gorillas for the first time. Keep enough time to explore everything. With a small break for food at least 6 hours are needed to cover everything.

Note:
The zoo and the safari park are separate from each other. And they are around 25 miles away. So ensure what tickets you have and drive to the right one. (We messed up and hence the warning)

Great zoo. Variety of animals some of which I have never seen before. The zoo is very clean and well taken care of. The exhibits are beautifully set. Animals can be easily seen. Ample parking. One can spend over a full day at this facility. There is a good mix of all sorts of animals. I really enjoyed watching a hippopotamus family under water. It was also my first time seeing a polar bear up close. The chimpanzees are also a must see. I was hoping to see a pack of wild dogs but I didn't get the chance.

Nice zoo! Unique variety of animals and ecosystems. The sky tram was a lot of fun and gives you a great perspective of the park and city! Would like to see less single-use plastic, however, especially the straws. Refuse to use by bringing your own alternatives. Do it for the animals!

Best zoo I have ever visited and volunteered. Huge. Plenty to see and learn. A lot of great programs for everything - all ages almost. Though some can be rather pricey. Love this place... a lot!

Took my kids for spring break they had a blast but I suggest going extra early as we spent a good hr driving around looking for parking. But if u have the time definitely check out the safari park I personally prefer that one over the zoo.

If you go in the summertime prepare for the heat bring plenty of water. Also wear comfortable clothes and shoes or will be doing a lot of walking. Plenty of fun for the whole family I came with a family of six. More than enough for a whole days activity.

I've been to a LOT of zoos but I think this was the best! Most everything but the behind the scenes tours are included in the admission price. (Last time I was at the Bronx Zoo, it seemed that they charged you for certain areas.
Best to plan a whole day here and take your time.

So cool! They are a conservation center and the workers and volunteers are so informative. I recommend getting the 1 day pass, it includes a 40 minute bus tour and you get rides on the skyline. Such a awesome place, we got there around 10 and left around 5,we saw most of the park, also the gorilla legitimately poses, it was great!

Fantastic day out. We spent 5 hours here. We saw & went on all the rides etc. The enclosures seem a bit small.
You can get close to the animals to take great photos. The talks by the keepers aerial fun too, enough information without being tedious.

Excellent, very diverse range of wildlife. Plan for a 4-5 hour day to see the whole zoo. We went when they opened at 9am, so it was quieter and some of the animals were still sleeping. The gorillas and lion slept right up on the glass so we got a good look at them. However, there were also cases where the animals were sleeping off in a corner and we didn't get to see them that well until later in the day. Would recommend starting where the African animals are (there is no shade) and looping back toward the Lost Forest (lots of shade).

*Monday & Tuesday ticket prices are cheapest, Wed-Sun it goes up!

Today was my 5th time going to this zoo. It s always a wonderful experience. They never disappoint.

Bring your own food and drinks because it s really expensive to eat here. They will refill your water bottles for no charge.

Awesome zoo! It is absolutely massive, but absolutely able to see everything in one day. We saw just about everything in about 4 hours. Ticket includes sky tram which is pretty cool, I would recommend taking it. We decided to walk everything and it was a TON of walking, but certainly well worth it. There are multiple levels and tiers, very easy to get lost! The only thing that's tough to see is the pandas as they are in a separate area, and the line to get in was too long to warrant seeing. I would definitely love to come back again.

Would be five stars if I had kids as could spend the whole day there but only spend two hours there and saw everything with partner so at 112 bucks between us not sure it's worth it but it is a one off

THEY DON'T HAVE THE MOST IMPORTANT ANIMAL!! THE MOST FREEEEE ANIMAL! THEY DON'T HAVE PIGEONS!!!!!!!!!!!!! We've looked everywhere, AND STILL NO PIGEONS! AND HARDLY ANY SQUIRRELS! YET SEAWORLD HAS THE PIGEONS!!! I thought this was a zoo for all animals, but yet, THEY DISCRIMINATE THE PIGEONS! If you're gonna put birds, PUT ALLLLL BIRDS!!

I can't count how many times I have been to the San Diego Zoo, and yet I never get bored of it. There are so many animals and exhibits to see. So many things to learn. We get quite a good walk in by the end of the day and it's just always an uplifting experience.

This zoo is lovely but if you go in the summer it will be hot! I've been going here for years and I've always had good experiences here. I would recommend going and its also a good place to bring children!

World famous. A little pricey BUT a must if you are ever in San Diego. I never fail to have any of my visiting relatives enjoy this place at least once, but for 56 dollars a person, it will make a dent on your wallet. Reserve a whole day if you are visiting this zoo. Parking is free which compensate well for the hefty entrance fee.

We go several times a year. Great savings on are membership. You get both "The San Diego Zoo & The Safari Park." The free parking with pass alone saved us $20. We spent it on a great lunch while listening to these fantastic musicians.
