I love this place so much, got to see a koala have a fit because his neighbor was being fed before him. The cat exhibit from the Asian continent was probably one of my favorite ones because it is a case of success. They have adorable Cubs that are super playful and active.

Great zoo! Wide variety of animals to see! Be sure to take the bus tour, sky ride, and use the kangaroo bus to get to different sections of the zoo, which are all included with your ticket. The kangaroo bus will save you a lot of walking!

It was VERY crowded, but we enjoyed the visit anyway. The zoo is beautifully landscaped and almost seemed like the animals were trained to perform for us. Hardly any of them were asleep during the daytime, which I feel is pretty usual when we visit any other zoo. Here, the lion was roaring at the crowd, a mama koala was munching while carrying a little one on her back, the monkeys were jumping around, and even the hippos parked themselves next to the glass for us to view.

Absolutely amazing Zoo, if in San Diego you must go here!
The animals are in enclosures that allow them room to roam around and you really feel like you are seeing them in a place they want to be.
Such a wide selection of animals are here from the standard Giraffe/Elephant to some much rarer big cats.
I spent easily 6 hours here on my own and I am sure with family/children this Zoo would provide entertainment for a full day.
There is lots of little shops around the Zoo so if you need a bite to eat or something to drink then you won't spend ages going off track to find it.
This really is the best Zoo I have visited and believe it should be top of the list for anyone going near San Diego.

Had a great day walking around having fun with my wife seeing all the different animals! There was even a Labrador-retriever that I got to see which is super rare to see in a zoo exhibit!! Totally worth it!
We used the city-go card or whatever made it even better!

It is the world famous zoo for a reason! Got an annual park pass because we all know I'll be going back again and again! The free gondola across the zoo is awesome! Did I mention the ice cream is some of the best I've had?

There is lots of parking. All the exhibits are informative and extremely clean.
Employees are upbeat, friendly and welcoming.
The zoo is home to more than 3,500 animals representing more than 300 different species and it has one of the largest collections of rare and endangered animals in the world.
Restrooms are clean and although I didn't get anything to eat there were lots of places to catch a bite.
If you're looking for the Pandas, unfortunately, they've moved back to China.
The San Dan Diego Zoo is a must see!

This is a great zoo. We enjoyed the guided bus tour as well as the tram. There are so many animals out playing it was exciting. The plants and vegetation add depth to the experience. All the employees were helpful as well.

The staff is very helpful and for the most part happy to be of assistance . I love the improvement of the Outback Australia. The koalas are always getting the oos and was. The new Africa exhibits are a must see. If you haven't been there in quite sometime now is a must,

This zoo is very ordinary but I wondered why it was so famous around the world. If you look closely you will notice that it is very educational. There is a pattern to how they arranged the flora and fauna.

Living in San Diego and having the best Zoo in the world just 23 minutes from our East County home is such a treat! The San Diego Zoo is the cleanest animal facility I've EVER been to our worked at!. The special animal encounters the have daily at different spots and times around the Zoo is a wonder way to REALLY get a super close look at the Cheetahs and thier canine companions. The staff and handlers are always ready and willing to answer ALL of your question. A little crowded around noon today but thinned by 2:30pm .
If you are visiting our fair city, tey our Zoo in the evening hours then stay for a super yummy dinner at one of the zoo's renowned restaraunts, the Treetop Terrace (I'm not sure I've got the name right, but it's close ) is nice and not too upscale, but not fast food at all! Feels like your having a meal in a tree house in a rain forest. Anytime of the year is a hreat time for socal!

This zoo is the best place I have ever been to. The animals are nice to see, the sights are great. It's worth the walk. Great place to visit for the day. There's even a 4-D Theatre and a Skyfari ride where you see the whole zoo, birds eye view. I don't know if I would visit it again but there's lots to see and do! Would recommend visiting.

With this whole pandemic going on it was so nice to take our children out for the day are girls absolutely loves the animals it was a great experience and family outing a little overpriced I would say for the entry I've never paid that much to go to a zoo but it was worth it

Freakin loved this zoo. You need an entire day though dudes. Several places to eat- they accept cash and credit. This place is huge- so plan to get there right when they open so you get your monies worth. They offer views and experiences with so many different animals and exhibits. I personally loved seeing the elephants and riding the bus around the zoo. Have fun, and don't forget your camera!!

We are at the zoo very frequently due to having an active preschooler. We appreciate the playground and the buses, and mommy enjoys the new couches and umbrellas at the far end of the bridge. Nice place for a snack! We recommend getting the keeper club pass for a small family - as it allows access to all the buses and also lets you bring in grandma etc (1 free guest plus kid under 3 whenever you visit!) The summer is great because they have fun shows etc that you can keep busy with during that tough time between 5pm and bedtime. Pro tip - if you have a keeper club pass you can use the private entrance at the exit and skip the crowd!

Outstanding zoo. They do everything they can to make the animals have environments that are close to their natural surroundings. The exhibits are very well thought out and the walking experience is very nice with plenty of shade. Start with the guided bus tour included with your ticket price. It will give you an idea of where you want to spend your time. If you are walking uphill you are doing something wrong. Use the buses to get to the higher parts and walk downhill to see the animals. Highly recommended!

This place is massive bigger than I had expected it to be and I couldn't see it all in one day. I would definitely wear comfortable shoes. Also anything that you buy goes right back into the animals at the zoo so you know your money is going to the animals and not the fat cats looking to line their pockets.

We took my 8 year old here for his birthday, he loves Zoo's and was so excited to go here. It was a great experience for the whole family. A lot of walking, so come prepared. We each packed a lunch into our backpacks and avoided the high priced food. My only complaint would be about the bathrooms, they really could be bigger and a bit nicer. But overall 5 stars! Definitely a place you have to visit once in your life.

Awesome experience! Could have spent two days there if we had the time. Buying food etc is pricey so be prepared. But remember it's going to help the animals. Recommend that you make use of the buses, unless you really like to walk a lot.
Zoo opens at 9 am check website to see if that changes.
Parking is free.
When you first arrive inside, you can take a free bus tour that gives you a nice overview of the whole zoo and helps you plan which areas you want to visit up close.

I love this place. I can easily spend a full day there. When I went on 2.3.2020 and the ariel tram was down due to them expanding the children's zoo. All the animals were out and active. I'd move to SD just to be closer to this place. I highly recommend.

Great park! Fantastic staff and volunteers with great attention to visitors and their questions. The exhibits were geographically organized and the diversity of wildlife is very interesting! We stayed at an Air B&B that was close by and spent two days at the park (may be difficult to cover the entire park in one day because the park closes at 5pm.) Something to think about if you're traveling from out of the area.

SD Zoo is a family favorite. We have annual passes. It's great to see the kids enjoy and learn about the animals. It's too bad the buses weren't operating because of COVID. But the Skyfari was open.

Great experience for tourists. The entrance fee is a bit expensive, but the proceeds go to endangered species preservation. The extent of the park and variety of the exhibits justify the cost as well.

You need to be willing to walk and plan on spending the whole day so you can read all the signs and watch the animals. The aviary is just amazing, the birds are so we'll adjusted to foot traffic that you can get right up close and they don't fly away.

I used to love taking my kids to the Zoo when they were younger, but now they seem to have outgrown it a little bit. I think they will appreciate it more when they re older. On top of that, the prices also seem outrageously high.

Visited last week after 10 plus years. Still the same but with some changes. You can buy the souvenir cup with free refills. Not as cool as back in the day with the giant animal as a lid. Took a 2 and 4 year old. They loved it. Lots of walking, steep hills.

At first all the animals were sleep so it was kind of a bummer but then the next go-around we had a great time because the animals were awake and moving around but the hills were kind of daunting but also good exercise. The hills didn't seem to mean too much to the kids they had a great time cuz they have tons of energy.

I loved it. Me and my wife spent over 6 hours here and we still didn't get to see all of the animals. The big glass exhibits were really cool to see and the place looked really clean and orderly.

Awesome zoo. Had a fun day admiring all the animals. Took almost the whole day to get through everything. Had several volunteers who were very nice and shared lots of valuable information about several of the animals.

This zoo is an amazing place! It li. Tves up to it's high standards of care and conservation. The zoo is absolutely huge, so take your best walking shoes and a hat if you're sensitive to the sun. The grounds, including the bathrooms, food areas and shops, are well maintained and every one of the staff is friendly. A wonderful full day of fun.

So many up close encounters with animals of all kinds truly magical for kids and adults of all ages. FREE PARKING if walking isnt your thing they have buses and smaller kangaroo buses and the sky tram to save you from the steep hills all part of your day pass pricing.

Way better than anything we have in Minnesota. We started by taking the bus tour to get the highlights. Take the upper level if you can for better views. There is a lot to ground to cover so have comfortable shoes. There are some ways to reduce the walking: the kangaroo buses, the Arial tram ride, and even an escalator. A great time for kids and the whole family.

I love San Diego Zoo. and I'm sure all the kids love the zoo because the way it's look like right now it's really safety and it's full of all animal you like to see it's really amazing to see it front of you instead of watching it in the TV it's a lot different. you will like definitely to see it right there front of your eyes the place is beautiful and they put a lot of work and it's very safety place. also the price very reasonable it's pretty cool place I really really like it and my family we have fun.

Great place for a family fun day or and adventure by yourself! Plan to spend atleast 3 hours there, if you want to see the whole zoo. The animals are all extremely healthy looking and well taken care of. Definitely a place to go back to!

I am giving it 5 stars because the animals seemed happier there than any other zoo I ve been to. Honestly, I was forced to go- I m trying to be objective. The concept of a zoo is a bit problematic because it s animals in captivity- any of the animals that aren t kept for conservation purposes/ aren t endangered (that are fine in their natural habitat and are just there for our viewing pleasure) seems a bit ethically unsound. Also, gentle reminder that animal sanctuaries exist! If you re passionate about animals, there are plenty to volunteer at or donate your money to. I m sure the zoo donates a percentage, but why not be more direct?
