We went for the public skate and had a really fun time. It was busy, but not so much I could not teach my son to skate for the first time. They had a DJ and would turn off the lights for some disco skating (if that is a thing) that both my kids really enjoyed. My wife said the food stand make them hot chocolate just right so my young son did burn himself but that it was still warm to drink. The people working there also got people out to do the YMCA and other dances. Lots of fun. Just wish my ankles and knees were 20 years younger as I am going to be sore tomorrow.

My child grew up playing on the district/local hockey teams here and found a super supportive coaching staff. The leadership of Coach Craig is to be praised and appreciated by all the parents, players, and staff. Travel, or district, this is an AWESOME rink to develop your Stanley Cup winner!

Wow.... So much fun! They had activities on the ice , which actually taught balance , without the kids even realizing it. At least 5 times in 2hours. At least 4_6 gaurds on the ice at all times. It has the feel of a REAL ICE CHALET. Figure skaters, hockey players, im coming back for sure

Absolutely love San Diego Ice Arena. It's located in a great part of town in Mira Mesa. The management and staff are very friendly. Ice skating is a great sport for Kids and older folks as well.

Can be a bit chaotic on the ice with young hockey players racing around playing tag, figure skaters doing tricks, and families just trying to have fun. It gets really crowded.
I thought it was called family fun time.

The staff doesn't do much to keep it orderly .

Large venue with almost the same amenities as most ice arenas. Having experienced another ice arena in Poway, SDIA does Not have small child learning aids like the Seal, Penguin or any other aid available.

The roar of the crowd; the smell of the ice, no, wait, that's somewhere else. I love this place because my wife and her friends and daughters all train and compete here. And the shows they put on are amazing!

Love this place for an indoor skating rink im SD! Its large and plenty of space to skate during open public hours. Gets extremely crowded on the weekends, filled with kids! Lots of lessons get taught on the rink and all staff are always friendly.

Rentals are available, make sure to bring your socks!! TIP: ALWAYS HAS DEALS ONLINE. Groupon, living social, whatever. Literally half the price for groups of 2 or 4 with skates included!

Parking may be a pain but in a residental neighborhood so there's always parking there!

Extremely friendly staff on ice at all times to help novices or just anyone who falls. New rental equipment and frequent events during open sessions (danceoffs, spotlights, furrows, et.al.) make up for facilities in need of renovation. Allows training and advanced moves during public skates.

The atmosphere is nice; there is a food court overlooking the rink. Prices at the rink itself are exorbitant. For example: $15 for 1 hour use of a learn-to-skate assistance toy. That said ... my 3y/o daughter had the TIME OF HER LIFE riding one of them with her uncle (who can skate, and skate well) pushing her around.

Amazing family experience. At least 4 employees on ice at all times. The employees helped people up as well as gave impromptu skating lessons. Kids didn't want to leave.

Our family went ice skating. We have four young children (< 9) who had each ice skated once. None of my children would leave the wall. The employees came up to us and offered to help the kids up when they fell. William (employee) helped my 5 and 6 year old daughters skate away from the wall. By the end of the session, all my children were skating off the wall.

My children really want to go back. I recommend going here, if you or your children don't know how to skate.

Lot's of fun to be had at the ice arena. However, be warned that it gets busy! If you're a beginner (like me), or you don't know how to ice skate (at all, like me not too long ago), it's really easy to get frustrated with people zipping by like they were born wearing ice skates!

Nice rink, but BEWARE that there are NO RULES on the ice. The "management" which are rude teenagers are much more interested in their phones than doing their jobs. Tyler completely ignored misbehaving kids right next to him on the rink. They will NOT enforce safe skating because they do "not want to offend paying customers" according to Justin. I was knocked down by rough housing kids and was severely bruised. I asked to speak to a manager and was told that he was too busy to talk with me. I left my phone number and asked for a manager to call me. I never got a call. My young daughter was also knocked down by misbehaving kids while working with a skating instructor. Staff refused to do anything. Kids were skating in the wrong direction, dangerously speed skating/playing tag while zig zagging thru crowds and cutting thru the middle of the rink.

When the wonderful memories as grandparents with our two grand kids of all of us taking Ice skating lessons at the San Diego Ice Arena stay with you for over 23 years or more you know you did the right thing. Also, owner then Michael Kirby, Movie actor, a professional skater and dancing partner of Sonia Heine in films would warmly greet us at the front door as we came for our lessons in the morning and our practice in the afternoon was a fun time.
