Salty Iguana Mexican Restaurant Review

Service is pleasant but ridiculously slow over lunch and not overly attentive. The place is brightly decorated with decent acoustics but the real question is whether that makes up for slow service and subpar food.. Food is Tex-Mex. Not as tasty as authentic Mexican food. The chips are too thick and taste like salted cardboard.

Had their Azul chicken tacos and man, did they hit the spot. For an impromptu Friday night date, they were certainly accommodating. A short wait time, excellent service and unlimited chips and salsa made for a great night out.

Fajitas didn't have an ounce of seasoning or one grain of salt in it and all the food was very bland. Will never come back

Terrible service. We did not get greeted for at least 20 minutes. When we did, we noticed that our server was in training. My drink was wrong TWICE when I specifically asked for an on on the rocks margarita. The girl in training was extremely rude. When I asked her if she would simply care to switch my drink out she replied why would I care? A joke! Will not return. Extremely over priced and had terrible, sarcastic, rude service.

My wife and I really enjoyed our dinner last Friday night. I had rack of lamb and my wife had risotto. I started with oysters that were nice and briny. I also had an apple and arugula salad that was very nice. My wife is vegetarian and the menu was limited for her, but Middleburg prides itself on being hunt country and does not cater to vegetarians.

It was great! I had the cream cheese burrito with chicken & it was delish!

Just not super impressed. The service was amazing, which earned the three stars instead of two. Chips and iguana dip were super thick and heavy. I had the fish tacos, first they were served on top of wethe beans so the corn tortillas were soggy and fell apart. The waitress was amazing got me new ones but I was just disappointed with the lack of flavor to the grilled fish. The fish and bean just lack flavor. Ivery previous enjoyed the mini chimichangas and they are amazing! I just did you want anything fried.

This place would be delightful if you have never tasted Mexican or TexMex food. Also, the McCormick fairy needs to visit the kitchen.

I don't know if I went on a bad day or what but the service was pretty crappy the food in the other way was delicious except for my wife's Margaritas were pretty water down.

We love their food - great quesadilla s, chips&guac, margaritas and tacos - and the carry out/delivery is always very timely. They have Beyond Meat options too for vegetarian/vegan people!

Not sure what the problem is here now. We used to go here for dinner a lot. Last night at 6:30 pm we were told it would be an hour wait. They were low on staff. I see this listed on here quite a bit. No patio tables were set up and not very many tables inside had diners. With Taco Republic going in soon this location should get it together or maybe the owners are just tired and done with it all?

I went here for dinner on a Wednesday night. It took a long time to get a seat and even longer to get the food. The waitress said it would take longer than usual because the restaurant was busy. But I actually had tell them to box up my food because I had to leave by the time they brought it. The food tasted ok but was cold by the time I finally ate it.

AMAZING Iguana Dip. Now made with 100% fresh, never frozen iguanas! I'm kidding about the second part, of course. I called ahead for a pickup order while on my way there about 30 minutes before closing time. Whoever took the order was friendly and everything was ready for me to grab 15 minutes from the end of the call.

Consistently good Mexican fare, excellent service and a wide variety of menu choices. Good place for kids.

It is what you would expect for a salty iguana. Nice typical tex mex food with there normal twist to it. This particular restaurant is always nice and clean. I have never had bad device there before. This was the first time I got the chimmechangas with shrimp and it was really good.

The food is good, but seems generic. The waitress we had was either really new and not trained correctly or she really didn't care about her job. She came by and got our drinks in and asked if we were ready to order, we requested more time. She came back to our table twice in less than five minutes asking what we wanted and seemed totally irritated that we didn't know what we wanted, which completely turned me off from ordering a bar drink. I was able to get over that when our food came, but what ruined the experience for me was when she took my plate with food still on it and didn't ask if I was done yet. Definitely not okay.

Easy in and out for delivery. Nice atmosphere. Food smelled and looked amazing.

Very standard Americanized Mexican food with little flavor. Got the fish tacos and the plate came so hot the beans were cooking onto it. On top of my beans was a bunch of hot wilted lettuce, and on top of that were my already soggy fish tacos, which consisted of plain tasting white fish despite being blackened . Service wasn t attentive even though it was only an average crowd, and the chips and salsa were just okay. You can definitely find a better Mexican place, don t be fooled by the flashy environment!

Possibly the worst "Mexican" food in Kansas City. That they stay in business is something RAND Corporation should probably look into. I keep going back because I live close to one and am a lazy piece of garbage. No man is without fault. It shouldn't be hard for you to find another--any other--Mexican restaurant in this town. I suggest you do that. Then, go to that one.

We love Salty Iguana and have been to several of their locations. The atmosphere is different but the food has been consistently good at all. We love their thin warm chips and various salsas. They have the best margaritas around and service is always outstanding. We've tried several things and have never been disappointed.

I love their fresh, hot, thin chips. They have a really good lunch menu and a great dinner menu. The prices are right in line with other good Mexican restaurants.

Good service, food and drink. Ordered beef enchiladas but got chicken....

Hmmm where do we begin. I'll set a visual image and let you all follow alone. 6:45 we're greeted than sat. 6:55 our server comes over and lets us know it'll be "just a sec". Now I am and have been a server and totally understand having a lot of things to do at once, so I tried to be reasonable. I also was aware that they were in "DIRE" need of help. We sat patiently and at 7:11 we finally got our drink orders in... after about 9 or so min my wife and I have decided what we would like, and patiently wait for another long 10 min. Already we have been here 30+ min and have yet to even get our food. Now lets continue to paint this picture.

We are the only one in our section to order food, the table next to us decided to leave due to the extensive waiting period. To just sum this up, because to continue would be the start of a never ending nightmare. I would say if you truly value your hard earned dollar. Continue to value it and skip this place. Not worth a penny, for the service that was recived.

Always great staff is great cleanist bar in town and the food is great

The food and service is pretty good, but it can be often busy and you might get a bad table to sit at where people rub up against you.

I've visited this restaurant a handful of times over the years and have never been impressed. Their food is expensive and bland. Last week I ordered a beef taco salad... it was dry and tasted as through they didn't season the meat with anything. It was also missing dressing that was supposed to be on the side. Are they catering to an older crowd with their lack of spice and flavoring? I don't get it. Side note: I've heard that the former Arby's at Corinth is converting to a taco joint, looking forward to having seasoned Mexican food nearby soon!!

I love this place! My family and I eat here at least 2 times a month! The iguana dip is a must have! I have been going here for over 8 years and I have NEVER had bad service or bad food! I LOVE this place!

Two stars is me giving them the benefit of doubt because of covid or it would have been one. I have been eating here for over 20 years and have never received as bad an experience as I did last night. Upon putting my name in, I was told it be 30 to 35 min, but to check in after 20. This was after another coupled bullied their way into the bar, because they didn't want to wait. Also no social distancing in the bar area, but more people there, than in the whole restaurant. I checked back after 20 min and was told that it would be another 10 or 15 minutes, even though there were plenty of open tables. I sat outside and watched people leave and a birthday party come in. When we were finally seated, we were sat right by the server station, with plenty of other tables open. The waiter came and asked if we wanted drinks. We commented on the pricing and the wait and declined. The waiter tried to apologize for the wait, stating that there were only two of them working (waiters maybe?) We said that it wasn't our fault, our waiter said it wasn't his either, so we left. I know its tough right now, but that should not affect how you treat customers, if the place is short-handed, step it up and work a little harder that night, who knows your tips might show it more. Don't complain about it to your customers. I'm sure that there are plenty of unemployed people out there, that would love the opportunity to have your job.

I love this restaurant & I was looking to host a group of 12 here for a celebration dinner & they won t accept any reservations. I understand but I also don t know why they aren t interested in making money.

The service staff is great but the food is way over priced for the quality. Paid 5 dollars less for 3 people than a great gourmet Mexican food called port Fonda where I even ordered 1 more dish and drink. Would be less critical of the place if the price matched the food. Below average food poorly cooked. The guacamole was literally an avocado poorly smashed with chunks of tomato that were almost like if someone pulled them apart with their hands. This place should be half the price it currently charges for all their dishes

Great for family with kids. The food is average and somewhat bland. The tacos azul are an exception. The service is good.

The food was delicious. Keith was a great representative of this restaurant. He was friendly, prompt and knowledgeable. I will look forward to my next visit...

Excellent place for lunch - especially with the discounted Mahomes burritos after chiefs games.

Delicious food. Fast and friendly wait staff. Reasonable prices. Too bad the atmosphere Thursday evening at 6pm is comparable to the volume and activity level of Chucky Cheese or McDonald's Play Place. Quiet conversation is impossible and interruptions (not by wait staff) are constant.

Great food. Authentic. Nice variety. Our waitress was very friendly and accommodating. Prices are good too. I don't think it could have been better than it was.

Trash food. Got the chicken beef enchiladas and it didn t have chicken till the last bite. They didn t adjust the price and didn t try to make it right.

One of our favorite Tex Mex restaurants in Johnson County KS. Great food and great service! We both had chimichangas this visit and they were crispy and filled with plenty of meat and cheese - hot and so delicious! Prices are reasonable for large portions. Their starter chips are thin and crispy with chunky salsa. Yummy!

Not the best Mexican food but good if you're in a pinch.

The waiter actually snapped at my child for asking for a lemonade. Didn t even get food. Between the terrible service and lackluster chips and salsa we figured there was no point in sticking around. Hide ya kids hide ya wife....

Went for breakfast the food was outstanding and the service the same. We sat in lounge area and the server/bartender was great. Used the buy one get one free deal. Have been there several times and have never been disappointed. They recently renovated the restaurant.

They need to explicitly state which tacos are street tacos and which are fried. I was disappointed when I got my alacarte tacos and they were not a traditional taco but rather street tacos. They were good just not what I was wanting. As I live out of town and don't get Salty Iguana regularly this was a big disappointment. Service was good and the iguana
dip was excellent as always.

Food is not quite as good as I remember (we recently moved back home to KC). A bit pricey but, typical considering Corinth Square rent.

You can't beat this "feel good food" nor this GREAT 25th Anniversary DEAL!

Average. Often get to go and tacos are not warm. Food is ok, great environment and house margaritas are average unless you get a top shelf . Iguana dip is a favorite of mine

Solid average. There are many better choices for Mexican in the area. Good if you like eating outside.

This is a hidden gem and I wish we would have found it sooner. Only got to visit once. Try the ahi nachos. Delicious
