From the time my husband enter & left after a hospital stay was unprofessional. So many things to list its crazy. A couple of nurses were good. Normally always go to this hospital and no issues but this time it was not not good.

Way understaffed and can t find a nurse or doctor to talk! Say they follow COVID protocol but far from being the truth. Tried resolving issues before posting review but patient care advocates are to busy to talk! If it wasn t for wife s cancer doctor being affiliated here there is no way we would ever return! Her cancer doctor is awesome but hospital has a lot of work to do to be anywhere close to where we would return to!
This review applies to the Specialty Select floor of the hospital. Some of the nurses were good and the same could be said for some of the doctors. However, overall, it was a nightmare experience for me. I went in with pneumonia (not COVID) and came out, four months later, with pneumonia. They were chronically short-staffed and the CNA's often talked about wanting to work elsewhere. Many times a task would call for two people and a second person was not available, leaving one CNA to do the work of two. I also believe that I was overly sedated much of the time and the doctors gave up on weaning me off the ventilator fairly quickly. The physical therapy was good but sporadic. The speech therapy was also good but I think I only had three sessions in four months. When it came time for me to be discharged home, the home health care aides I have were supposed to get a week of training, but they received only one day of training. I would not recommend this facility for anyone. I do know someone who has a relative went there and they were happy with his care. I only know that I did not get what I needed. I went backwards while there with a lot of muscle atrophy.
I use to love this hospital until one of my children showed symptoms of covid. Instead of taking the symptomatic child alone they told me to bring the whole house hold and didn't even care that there was 2 high risk members in that home. You guy's are supposed help the situation not try to infect the rest of us.
My mom is 66 years old with dimensia and pneumonia for the 3rd time in 2 months. Do not take a loved one to this hospital!!! My mom has no I clue most of the time what is happening. They neglected to give her her meds for a whole week in march. Now, we have no idea what is going on with my moms condition since they wont return calls and if they do, they are rude and unsympathetic. She has been in there since Tuesday morning and has not been washed or allowed to shower. She was taken by ambulance on Tuesday morning and no choice but to go back to St. Joes. If you love your family member, don't take them here.
Staff of St. Joseph Mercy, you guys are lucky that I HAVE to give you this star. And if it wasn't for the emergency that my daughter experienced, I DO NOT WANT MY FAMILY NOR MYSELF TO GO TO NO ER, HOSPITAL OR URGENT CARE. Specially these times. Was told that a CT was recommended, I agreed. Told me that it was going to be some wait, I understood and we waited. After waiting four and 1/2 hours for the CT, I decided to find out what was the hold up. Got told that it was going to be even a longer wait now because two emergencies came in and THEY were priority and that since we been waiting in the hallway, they could give us a room. Sad to say, St Joseph is hiring unprofessional, disrespectful people with no compassion. My daughter and myself felt humiliated. I WILL NOT recommend this hospital EVER again.
My mom went in with Covid. I helped her get over the rough part but my family (little brother) felt like I wasn t doing enough therefore he called the ambulance. Fast forward 3 1/2 weeks later and she s doing very well but they some how robbed her of her rights, lied and said she s has an altered mental state. Lied and said they called the family and informed them of her condition. I talk to my mom almost daily and she is and has been very coherent. Unfortunately they filed legal work now she s basically a ward of the state. I m so upset because my mom has 5 kids, 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. We are very capable of taking care of my mom but now I have to be involved with the courts because of these selfish, evil, demons. My mom is so upset that we sent her to St Joe. I m upset too because they use to be the number 1 hospital around. Never will ever!!!!
From the moment I entered the building until the moment I left, everyone I came in contact with was absolutely wonderful, professional, and helpful.
My anesthesiologist taught me some really interesting information about some of the medications I am allergic to, which I am grateful for. There was no sore throat, or swelling post-op, and there has been no pain.
My surgeon was brilliant, skilled, and absolutely wonderful.
The nurses were kind, helpful, and went above and beyond. Oh, and I LOVED the warm air blowing in the gown post-op as anesthesia always makes me feel freezing.
I recently spent about a week at the main SJMO Hospital in Pontiac and was positively impressed by the whole experience. The professional staff was thorough and always helpful. The nursing staff was always friendly and attentive. I eat a vegetarian diet and was amazed at the quality and variety of tasty choices. I particularly liked the veggie burger and the flatbread pizza - I would be happy to get the same meals at any restaurant. You guys are doing it right. While I am not anxious to go to the hospital anytime soon, yours will be my first choice. Thanks for the positive experience.
