Looking like a Bildung in ww2. Not modern and stinky inside was 2 time there in my 2 month in hamburg.

Far too few places. So much was rebuilt here, but that's all garbage as long as there are so few places.

Incidentally, the security guard looking grimly into the world is the biggest joke figure. If something's really going on you just keep yourself covered .. so ridiculous. Otherwise, always look at everyone like a felon.

Actually, I was always very satisfied with the stabilizer. The employees in the lending center, in the reading room and in the media center were always competent and helpful to me, which is very good for my visual impairment. They have often shown me what is where or sometimes checked in the system to see whether there are reservations, for example. I would like to say thank you for that.

On the other hand, today, Saturday, a completely different picture was presented. I asked an older employee at the lending center if there were reservations for me. In my case, these are not only in the normal lending shelves, but also in the service shelf right next to the information counter of the lending center. That employee neither scanned the library card nor looked at the service shelf. Instead, he only said that this shelf would not exist and that I should have a better look in the reading room. The reservations, however, were from the loan inventory and not from the reading room.
Regarding the incident today, unfortunately I have to say that helpfulness looks very different.

Actually very good, since there are many jobs - but the background noise is extremely annoying. Noisy fan I have ever experienced and he runs and runs and runs ...

Unfortunately, the architecture is also very functional.

What kind of library is it? The borrowing system is completely complicated and you can only borrow 1/4 of the books. So you can't browse and come up with new ideas. Also because it looks like there hasn't been a renovation since 1960. With so much dunning fees collected, there should be a renovation in there.

Employees are impossible, not helpful, sometimes outrageous!

The reading room on the second floor is a good place for learning and self-study. Open daily until midnight and in summer the room is air-conditioned. Great.

Very bad and used air in the rooms, unfriendly staff, generally uninviting. Even though we had the bags included etc we were not allowed in the reading rooms, because the "bouncer" did not like a jacket. Every other library is better suited to learning!

A large library with plenty of room to study. Well organized system for borrowing. The building, however, like most on the campus, is aging and in need of refurbishment.

For the first time, I experienced a totally impossible employee at the ALZ here. After I asked him for help with the return, I could not finish my sentence and the man has yelled at me totally. I did not understand anything and moved to the return shelf to make myself smart, then it came back and screamed at me if I did not understand anything. The people around me stared at me as if I had done something terrible. I was so outraged and could only say that it is good with his appearance. When he realized that he was wrong and my books can only be returned to the ALZ, he was suddenly much more peaceful and pretended to do me a favor. I thanked him despite his outrageous appearance but I just stared at him disapprovingly. He had then understood how his action was next to it.

But otherwise I had good experience with the Bib and the other staff was also quite friendly. Therefore, there are unfortunately only 3 stars

The conversion of the server can only be called a complete disaster. After 9 days works ... nothing !!! No access to your own account, no order options. For this I have to pay user fees! And the pinnacle is that the SUB did not even think it necessary to apologize for the inconvenience we have as a user over these 9 days. In which service desert do we live?

Aggressive guards, very stuffy air, the staff refuse to turn the air conditioning. I hope this place burns down!

The staff is very friendly and helpful, books from all specialist libraries can be returned here - admittedly, the wasteful organization of space in the self-study area is not really accessible to me, but otherwise great.

I would have given 5 stars a few months ago. But I find it unbearable that the bar doesn't open until 11:00. How does this protect us from infection? After several inquiries, I did not receive an answer. I also noticed that on some rows of tables there are two chairs (1.5m apart) and on other rows of tables there is only one chair, whereby two workstations could easily have been set up. The capacities are not being used to the full. I also don't think it's okay to shoo us out 15 minutes in advance. Couldn't they just let us in a little earlier so that we really get the given time? Why aren't more rooms made available? I ask for longer opening times (or at least open earlier) and that more study places be set up. Then I change my rating back to 5 * :)

Now the opening times are longer. That's nice and don't justify my star any more.
Unfortunately I had to be treated very unfriendly when I "forgot" to check in because I just showed my ID as always. The reaction from the service staff really shocked me. One reacted very hysterically and unfriendly. Sure, the otherwise very friendly lady was annoyed because a student before me didn't quite understand the check-in process. However, this does not justify letting go of the pent-up anger at will on others. I can understand that the situation is very tense, especially when you introduce new systems. But I do not accept such a reaction a second time! It is a shame that the colleague did not de-escalate. That's why I still don't give 5 * but only 2 *

Now, after 40 years, the reading rooms have been renovated, but the ugly ceilings have remained. Why???? And why is the ventilation completely off? Do you know how stuffy it is in all reading rooms now?

Terrible library! That there is something like that in 2019, is sad for the (anyway not exactly ideal) university location Hamburg - always (!) According to the motto "invest as little as possible, somehow it works already" works. I'm not a student, but a guest scientist. I got an ID card to use the holdings during a visiting professorship. I have also been reprimanded several times - for questions that I have asked, but also because of unruly rules of conduct that others mention here in the Google reviews. The building is worn to dilapidated - despite alleged renovations. The building erected in the 70s / 80s (according to internet research) does not comply with the conditions of use of 2019. Smaller university locations such as Marburg have proven that one can only fulfill another usage by new rooms (Neubau UB 2018). The working atmosphere is miserable. The staff has absolutely no desire or is not available. I was reprimanded when I asked for a passport application by the specialist at the entrance: "You got this information when you enrolled as a student, and I can say more about that." At the same time I am 43 years old and it should at least have been possible that I am not a student ... I have not applied for a passport and continue to use the holdings of my home library ... I find this university for Hamburg simply very sensitive! 3,5 is far too good a rating in my opinion ... The students absolutely bathe a situation for which nothing is possible. In this respect, one must also say (have read about 40 of the currently 94 reviews) that the answers of the press office (?) Are embarrassing to unsatisfactory. I do not want to comment on that in detail. In any case, I find it highly inappropriate to ask users to accept (absurd) rules or justify the poor spatial situation with the square in the city center and a historical situation. With the reason we can still live in mud huts in 2019 ...

The library is an example of the city's faulty austerity measures for educational institutions of all kinds. Unfortunately, those who want to prepare for exams productively are not in good hands here.

The air in the stabilization is felt to be used 24/7 and gets worse the longer you stay in the building and the deeper you go into it. In the cold seasons it is also often the case that the temperature is not adjusted correctly (the specialist library in the WiWi bunker does this much better). Last but not least, the Stabi has developed into a meeting point for young people for some time. The noise level on the top floor is sometimes so high that even group work is not always possible and you have to look for alternatives on campus.

The city's largest university would have deserved a much better building!

Unfortunately, today I was reprimanded by a woman and a man from the reception with a true bouncer mentality, as if I had trampled a book. My "offense": I wanted to go to the counter where I applied for my ID a year ago to have it extended. It is logical for someone who works there on a daily basis that this switch is now somewhere else. Not for me. I lose the desire to come back again.

Dear press office, I have worked in the service sector for years myself and I think I can assess what is ok and what is not. A "Can we help you?" the reception would be a good start instead of "Where are you going?" in a tone that has washed. Attributing the experience to customer sentiment instead of speaking to staff may not be the best way to go.

I like it here and the staff are very friendly. The only drawback are the vollgekleisterten dolls, who think they were on a fashion show. Just like the macho proletarians, who pull a 1L perfume cloud behind them.

A little getting on in years, but by and large okay.

The Stabi can be used very well for learning in group or individual work, at the reception / at the info you are always treated friendly and books are super easy to borrow and return.

Cozy place to study. Mostly very silent to concentrate on work. Internet works flawlessly. Cafeteria has nice soups and cafe. But somethings I don't get. For example the idea behind laptop free zone.

World War II people had a better library than we did. The equipment comes from the Middle Ages. Sockets? Nothing. Use notebook? Prohibited at 85% of the places. Modern colors, new carpets? Why too?

As a student of UHH, I would very much appreciate it if there was better ventilation in the stabilizer. The nice porter has a thermometer with him, which always indicates about 22 degrees. For me and many other students this is much too warm, especially since the air is quickly consumed by the large number of people.

Would not it be possible to set the air conditioner to be a little cooler and more comfortable? In the Wiwi-Bib this works perfectly.

Super unfriendly and zero helpful workers ... most of the literature has to be ordered from Kiel. Few jobs for a state library in a million-strong city.
The opening hours are the only plus

the place is nice but the students studying there are annoying and they do a lot of noise and most of the power plugs does not work

I got to know the Stabi during the Corona period and I have to say, I was always greeted in a friendly and competent manner. With every question, no matter how simple, I was helped and accordingly the 5 stars for the pleasant experience :)

Very comfortable library BUT very loud at the areas where it is supposed to be quite "whispering area" especially on the first floor. What bothers me are the workers who seem not to mind even if you w complain they DO NOTHING. Compare to the last 2 years, IT HAD GOTTEN WORSE... People are speaking with their phones like we are in the market.

Excellent place to study, unfortunately always quite crowded and that's why you can never really find a place, but if you go early or in the evening there is always something going on.

Not particularly modern, neither from the outside nor from the inside, but you can learn well there and books have almost all of them there.

A real shame

Nice place to study and work on projects. But it is crowded and one have to be there early morning to find suitable place.

Horrible Uni Bib; I have ever experienced. This was my first and last visit! Not enough jobs for students, all places are blocked, as in the All Inclusive holiday with the beach chairs in the morning. Then you sit down at a computer workstation, because nothing else is free and after 20 minutes of it then scared away, as others want to work on the screen. On the one hand understandable, on the other hand: Please just create more opportunities to work! The request for help to find a job is completely ignored. Here you can not really expect anything.

The fact that as a student nowadays you also need electricity in addition to a table and chair (for example, household chores are no longer written by hand or with a typewriter) in order to be able to work properly, somehow does not seem to have fully arrived here.
Would write at home, where I have a socket near the desk - but since I am dependent on books that cannot be borrowed, only the space on the floor remains in the hallway.

When I visited the master school, it was my place to study, nice atmosphere, lots of peace and quiet and you get coffee too :) only one problem is there! Far too little space, that's why I came early in the morning or in the evening to get a seat

I think the nice rule that you can't go into the reading room with an opaque bottle is funny. Thermos with only warm water is even prohibited. Completely impractical, especially in winter. The ventilation is also not good.
