As a guest to an event here while the school year was done, the school was easy to navigate. A mix of dated areas and modern areas. I was in the common area of Kerr Hall. The room was full of light, large and big. It was just hard to hear each other in there. Not good for sound acoustics.
Food Which was made at the school was delicious (veggies, potatoes, rice, chicken, tofu and salmon) and of great quality.
But why isn't Shay in the first few people?????? Google??????!!!
I Love everything about this university, the Profs are amazing and always willing to help
A great place to see up-and-coming downtown.
I just finished a day-long conference and it reminded me of all Ryerson has to offer and what an asset it is to downtown revitalization.
The Food Security Centre sponsored the conference, an example of an organization that was at least ten years ahead of its time when it was founded by Ryerson faculty decades ago. Their dietitian program is also way out in front. Both are examples of what I argue in my book Food for City Building -- how a place that knows how to use food as a lever can work with food to meet a wide variety of goals.
That's even true for the cafe Balzac, which, unlike Tim's or Starbucks, shows the place has a little taste and a little appreciation for another up-and-comer, a Canadian company no less.
The walk around the quadrangle is lovely, especially in the spring at blossom time. The gay sculptures around the quadrangle and on Victoria are also quite the statement from the era when they were commissioned.
I must admit that it gives me a lump in the throat to see all the multicultural students there who are making their way here, a real testimony to Toronto's efforts at multiculturalism and inclusion.
Ryerson has a vibrant student life, and many opportunities to develop yourself within and outside of your program. I particularly love Ryerson's social media presence, its orientation week volunteer opportunities, and its' striving for an inclusive and diverse campus. A brilliant school if you are looking to explore an urban, innovative atmosphere, with opportunities to be engaged and active in the student community/campus groups!
To those who are city lovers, you would really want to study in Ryerson. Studies may be stressful which is always common in all universities, but the environment is entertaining, relaxing, and chilling. It can keep you happy 24/7, have all the luxury you need next to Dundas-Square, and never miss an exciting event near downtown, such as, pride parade, new years event, concerts, etc.
Their engineering program was especially the worst!
New building at Yonge street is amazing. Not an intimidating campus! Love it.
The Journalism program is fantastic. Way better school than OttawaU. Everybody's so helpful and nice. They treat you as young professionals, you don't feel like you're a kid student. Everybody's so respectful to one another. I had personal problems and I went to talk to the Journalism Program director, he was soooo supportive. This place is my second family. I strongly recommend Ryerson!!!!! The fact that its right downtown is really great too. I feel like Im never missing anything.
Ryerson was built to be made a practical school from the start. With a ton of amenities as outlets for students it creates a great start to a working career. It really has a great environment for a downtown setting, making it an appropriate place to be!
I am a graduate of Ryerson University. They have one of the best education format in Canada. Their location is one of the best as well. Very conducive to learning, interacting with peers, and building relationships. Highly recommended!
MAC is an awesome gym
10/10 would attend again
Great school, that provides so many opportunities inside and out of the classroom. Ryerson is a small university taking great strides to show what can be done with design, research, and sustainability.
bad school for computer science but pretends that the program has a lot of prestige. not worth it
Definitely not the best school but Ryerson is one of those good schools in Toronto
Way to go
This school is GREAT! I'M GONNA STAY HERE FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE!
WHO NEEDS TO WORK!
Urban campus right in downtown Toronto.
Well regarded university with a strong tech focus. Good industry connections and lots of opportunity for international exchanges (both staff and students) .
Not as "oldy worldy" as the older and arguably more prestigious University of Toronto - which pretty much has its own suburb in town
For those who are familiar with Australian Unis the Ryerson - Uni Of Toronto comparison is very similar to RMIT - Uni of Melbourne or UTS - University of Sydney situation
Ryerson University (colloquially referred to as Ryerson, RyeU or RU) is a public research university located in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The university's core campus is situated within the Garden District, although it also operates facilities elsewhere in downtown Toronto. The university operates seven academic divisions/faculties, the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Communication and Design, the Faculty of Community Services, the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Science, and the Ted Rogers School of Management. Many of these faculties are further organized into smaller departments and schools. The university also provides continuing education services through the G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education.
The institution was established in 1948 as the Ryerson Institute of Technology, named after Egerton Ryerson. In 1964, the institution was reorganized under provincial legislation, and renamed the Ryerson Polytechnical Institute. The university was reorganized into full-fleged university in 1993, and renamed the Ryerson Polytechnic University. In 2002, several years after the university's school of graduate studies was established, the university adopted its current name, Ryerson University.
The university is a co-educational institution, with approximately 44,400 undergraduates and 2,950 graduate students enrolled there during the 2019 20 academic year. A number of individuals have graduated from the institution, with Ryerson having nearly 170,000 alumni as of 2017. The university's athletics department operates several varsity teams that play as the Ryerson Rams, competing in the Ontario University Athletics conference of U Sports.
The university's academic year functions on a three-term system, fall, winter, and spring/summer. The university is organized into seven faculties, the Faculty of Arts, the Faculty of Communication and Design, the Faculty of Community Services, the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science, the Faculty of Law, the Faculty of Science, and the Ted Rogers School of Management; the latter academic division serving as the university's business school. The Faculty of Law is the newest academic faculty formed at the university, having taken its first cohort of students in September 2020.
Most faculties are further organized into smaller departments and schools. The Faculty of Arts is made up of ten humanities and social science departments. The Faculty of Communication and Design is an academic division made up of nine schools focused on media, design, and creative industries; including the RTA School of Media. The Faculty of Science is composed of four departments.
Graduate programs are coordinated by the Yeates School of Graduate Studies. Ryerson University also jointly administers several academic programs with other post-secondary institutions based in the region, such as Sheridan College, and York University. Continuing education at Ryerson is managed by the G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education; which offered over 400 courses as of February 2021.
The university's has 909 full-time faculty members during the 2019 20 academic year. In the same year, the university had an enrolment of 28,800 full-time undergraduate students, and 2,600 full-time graduate students. In the 2019 20 academic year, the university also saw 5,951 people enrol in a G. Raymond Chang School of Continuing Education course; more than half of which were degree-credit course.
In 2018, the university conferred 7,199 bachelor's degrees, 1,084 master's degrees, and 75 doctoral degrees. More than a quarter of the bachelor's degrees awarded that year were conferred to students in business and commerce programs. The majority of master's and doctoral degrees conferred by the university in 2018 were to students in engineering or social science-related programs. The graduation rate for students that entered the university in 2011 is 74.2 per cent.
This is hands down one of the worst universities ever.
My girlfriend is studying here now and really likes it! Beautiful building with clear indications.
Ryerson University, a public university in Toronto, Canada, is located in downtown Toronto. The school's name is named after the Ontario early educator Egerton Ryerson (1803-1882).
great school!
Love the SLC!
education is very important! I hope the school will open again
I love that the courses are not solely theoretical and that a number of programs are interdisciplinary, which allows you to choose from a wide range of courses for your liberals. And of course, the location in downtown Toronto!
Library hours is long. 7 cents for printing a page is cheap.
Absolutely disgusting that Ryerson will allow bullying of Jews on campus.
This review is solely based on as a visitor to the downtown campus of Ryerson University. Actually, the building are scattered from the Jarvis street through Bay Street. They have their management school on top of the Eaton center. Since downtown Toronto is already a very busy crowded place, so, I didn't find any large outdoor fields. But this campus is located at the heart of the city, so it definitely drives some values. I would definitely recommend this place.
I am a Ryerson Student and am so satisfied with my choice to attend!
Sheldon Levy was the best university president in Canada. Really put Ryerson on the map. Too bad he isn't there anymore. Huge loss to the university.
Lovely architecture and business program! Attended a few seminars here and really enjoyed the campus
Amazing University with the very best activities all the year
Called the admissions office & honestly I would give negative stars if I could. I waited 45 minutes just to get told that I can look at the website if I need help. Then an alarm went off & the advisor said that they will call me back... they didn t- thanks for nothing
An amazing university in the heart of Toronto. Experience education and downtown environment at its best. Minutes away from exceptional dining and shopping options. Professors are experienced with outstanding exposure to corporate world and its operational understanding. Student Union body is always helpful and within reach for assistance. Over all, an excellent university to gain practical knowledge through thr professors who are always helpful.
A progressive institution that has moved past book and theory based education to actively produce graduates with meaningful experiences. Some programs are lagging behind, but others are at the leading edge in their industries (Geographic Analysis).
Great space for study..like the SLC center the most
first and foremost, ryerson's location, being at the heart of downtown toronto, makes it a university that is dynamic and fast paced. the city life, at least for me, is the way to go.
but ryerson as an educational institution however? what can i say, it's great either way! lots of hands on learning experiences, tonnes (emphasis on tonnes) of groups/clubs/sports to get yourself involved in. awesome school all around. #RyeHigh
The school on tv in the newspaper + $ 12.00000 I liked
Strong engineering and business programs in the heart of downtown. Busy but occasionally sketchy community.
This is an amazing institute for higher learning located down town in the 6. As one of the newer University's in Canada Ryerson has really put in work (over the past ten years) and made some incredible progress. A number of new buildings have been added to the campus including the Ted Rogers School of Business located on Bay Street. I have to say I am such a huge fan of Ryerson's appreciation for restoring historic buildings in the downtown core which they have done on several occasions. After buying the epic Sam the Record Man building Ryerson reconstructed the space into a stunning student lounge and library addition. Also note that they took careful consideration to relocate the original Sam the Record Man sign to Yonge and Dundas Square where it lights up every night in 6
Great school! I'm in my 3rd year now double majoring in Entrepreneurship and Marketing. I really like the environment that the university is situated in. In addition, the professors at Ryerson really do bring real life experiences from their field into the classroom setting.
Student group engagement is also very strong at Ryerson University. I've been part of numerous student clubs under the Ted Rogers School of Management and have had an opportunity to learn new skill sets. I've traveled in and out of Canada for conferences/competitions because of Ryerson University.
Its a nice place for study and surrounding area is great. easy approach to restaurants, cafe, parking and hotels.
The administrator by the name of Melissa Johnson needs to be spoken to about how she thinks she s superior to students.
I was only in one of the residences in summer, in mutual st. Horrible, the cleaning ladies signed as they had cleaned but did not clean the bathrooms. The sheets never changed, I understand that you do not make me the bed every day, but if you have to spend Mondays, change the sheets.
If you leave the key in the room 5 dollars fine. Fatal, the cleaning shines by its absence and the horrible kitchen, the oven didn't work and they didn't give us solutions.
The filthy carpet full of stains.
The staff and people around are so welcoming and helpful.
Great buildings to take photos if you just go to take a walk
Ryerson has brought so much awesoneness to my life, from the people I have met, amazing opportunites around Ryerson to great classes. What a great school in the center of the city!
Transferred out of this school after first year bcomm. The professors in the accounting department are horrible. You basically study on your own but at the end of the day i still managed to decent gpa (almost A ^_^). If you want quality education run away from Ryerson. I'm only speaking for its Ted Rogers school. If you want an easy business school- doing questions on exams that are straight from textbook then ryersons bcomm is for you.
Very rude manager and staff have no respect for students for exmple Yoga teacher Bell has kicked a student on his foot
I graduated from the Business Technology Management program through the Ted Rogers School of Management. I can attest to the success that the graduates of that program have earned. The majority of my fellow graduates found work immediately after graduation and many of us have already moved into Professional-Senior level positions just 3 years out of University.
I enjoyed my studies here. Profs were knowledgeable and friendly. Close go eatons so it's convenient.
Save your money - go anywhere else. This university is a joke.
school with a lot of radicalization. i don't go to this school but quite a few students i know of who attend it have that kind of nasty attitude that i don't appreciate. having said that, when i did my internship at a major bank, quite a few managers are graduates of this uni so i guess Ryerson has decent reputation for employers.
campus is nice for walking.
Ryerson is an awesome school because it is so hands on. The professors really love to teach. It's a research university which prepares you for the real world. It also tests you on material that can be applied in the job market.
Word Life, Ryerson is the best. If time is up or your time is now go to Ryerson. It's untouchable and its forcing you to feel it.
Ryerson University is a public university in Canada, founded in 1948. It is located in the city of Toronto.
This school does not care about their students. They are just left wing loony bins who care only about the money lining their pockets. I attended one course here, the other courses I enrolled in were cancelled without a reason, consistently, every time I enrolled term after term. DO NOT GO TO THIS SCHOOL. You'll be wasting your precious time and money. The faculty couldn't care less about you.
My experience here at Ryerson has been innovative, collaborative and the overall student life is lively with many information sessions, seminars and networking events which you must attend in order to experience the most from this university.
To quote community, "it's a toilet but it's my toilet" Business student, it's a decent University despite what UT people will say, it's really crap in a lot of things (mostly campus repairs related) but I think the fact we used to be a college actually helps a lot in my program since we learn to get a lot of hands on experience with programs/tools in our industry which usually results in RYE grads actually being able to do a good job at their first career after graduating since not everything we learn is totally theoretical.
Attending Ryerson for the past five years has truly been a privilege. The innovation and progression that this school offers, is state of the art. They have become an influential factor within the city, and as students we really benefit. Overall the campus life is incredible, and Balzac's is a plus. Can't wait to see what Ryerson will offer and become in the near by future.
I go to this school. Getting to Ryerson is probably one of the easiest things you can do. So many options from Go Train, Sub-way, driving and if your in the GTA area, its super easy to get there.
Run by some of the most pretentious piles of garbage in Canada. This place has no business calling itself a University. Walmart provides better education and training some how...
Was not visiting Ryerson was only parked on Church street had dropped someone off at 43 Wellesley St and was waiting for them to call me for pickup to go back home.
Professional staff ,,,friendly reception ...enough info and guidance offered
I love coming to this school. It's nice to have all the buildings pretty close to each other, and it's nice to have so many stores nearby. I love the campus atmosphere.
Ryerson is the only university that recognizes talent beyond the classroom! All the other business schools in Toronto take in full time students and mostly out highschool. Ryerson's part-time undergraduate program gives the flexibility that budding entrepreneurs can use to develop their skill and connections and an excellent health insurance program to boot! i would not recommend the part time program to full time worker with a 9-5 job monday to friday but for the rest of us business people Ryerson works an is a step above the rest in many regards...
Great school if you're in the right program (engineering, politics and public administration, radio, fashion, nursing, socialwork, to name a few. I really enjoyed my experience there! Go Rams!
The "beach" floor is pretty awesome, although I was disappointed by the fact that there was no actual sand there.....
