A great friend of mine has been nothing but exploited, harassed and ruined by the ROPD. They have given him tickets so expensive than no average human could pay them off, and now has caused him to go to jail, just as he was getting everything right. They do nothing but destroy the culture of Woodward and the car scene.

Parked in the lot at Chase bank for 5 min, Im a customer and had every right to be parked there. Parking enforcement came over on his segway screaming at me saying Im parked " illegally" and how Im disrespecting Royal Oak business by not paying for parking and how it was "private property. Yeah, and Im a guest of that business and it was no pay. I defended myself stating he was in the wrong. He called my work and complained how one of there workers (was wearing work shirt) was extremely rude to him. Now, im afraid to even visit downtown RO out of fear of getting a ticket from some Paul Blart wannabe with a vendetta.

Had an issue with a downtown business treating myself and a group of friends terribly. Responding officer was courteous and as helpful as he could be, despite no obvious recourse, other than a report to the BBB. My first pleasant experience with the police force in Royal Oak!
Bad experience ever.my observed World bad police they're . They only want and try to give ticket for the promotion. Never talk with people kindly. They don't have the human being mentality.

Watched two officers arrest a peaceful man carrying a sign but refused to say why he was being arrested. Are there no rights of the people in this city , is this a " sovereign city " ?
Needed help a couple times and they were there. Never been harassed, always treated with respect.
Asked me to leave the property on the pretense of loitering after I had JUST purchased a sandwich at Potbelly's at Normandy. I guess I should be grateful they only asked me to leave and didn't write me a bunch of tickets based on these other reviews.
Working about 4 years in the pickup-divery biz. Have been told time and time again by RO traffic enforcement that as long as I have my delivery sign on car and I use blinkers I will be fine and not have to worrie about getting a ticket. Imagine my surprise when this past Thursday I come out to find a $50 ticket on my car, along with my many other "coworkers" having been given parking tickets as well. Advanced notice would have been nice, I would have otherwise paid. Can you say entrapment!?
They do a good job cracking down on people that lack a basic understanding of stuff like laws and parking meters. Keep up the good work!

Been living in RO for 6 years.... Ive never been bothered or pulled over... not sure where all of the bad reviews come from. Hint...drive per the law and put money in your parking meter. If not, thank you for your contribution to the city of Royal Oak.

Be careful when they approach you they might shoot you due to their incompetence and poor training. I tried calling and calling to find out if that pig who shot that man (you know there's these things called warrants you can get also called due process of law). If someone sought it revenge for such a senseless crime this officer has committed they would claim victim, start filling complaints on horrible cops and bring them justice yourselves this will all stop. Literally just watched an officer blow tbrough the light at 12 and main to turn his lights off right after. If they don't need to respect traffic laws why do we?

I was told that the entirety of royal oak was a permit only parking zone. 50 bucks a shot times 1000 people. its not right , but it will buy a lot gear for the department. remember when the WOODWOOD CRUISE was FUN? now its so micromanaged and corporate that I don't go anymore. how bout getting out the cruiser's once in a while. mingle with us. you'll find we don't have coodies.

No signs or any sort of warning telling you side streets are permit parking. Then they hit you with a $50+ ticket to be paid in 3 days. Outstanding work, glad you are keeping those scary cars away. And bravo to the idiot in the cruiser that nearly smashed into me doing an illegal U turn on Livernois last night with no sirens or lights. Was planning on moving to the city but have nixed that idea thanks to my own experiences and what I've read online/seen in the news.

Was on vacation in Michigan when I received a ticket for not complying with an officer. He requested my American express platinum card, me to remove my pants and my frequent flyer miles or he was gonna taze my dog. Starting to think he wasn't a real officer.
They'll hand out parking tickets as soon as the meters run out but refuse to respond to a call for help of a woman being attacked. A quick search for "Royal Oak Police Department misconduct" will tell you all you need to know about the rap sheet of this department.
Never been here but was helped by a friendly officer last arts beat and eats awhile ago when I was lost. After all these fine men and women put up with, they stay professional and do their job while setting a good example for the community.

I am not a fan of the towing policy for unpaid parking tickets, the fines are extreme and I suspect RPD and A&M Towing are making money hand over fist with the new policy. Another problem I have with RPD is that they seem to have given up on catching the arsonist that set 8 cars on fire in my neighborhood. I pay royal oak taxes and it would be nice to feel safe in my neighborhood rather than fear while parking in the city.
I had a flat tire and was riding to Dimo's which is the best shop ever BTW and it was almost to the rim I was getting passed angrily by other cars on the road even though I had my flashers on. A Royal oak police officer sped around me as if I wasn't there and turned his head as he went around. Well Royal oak is small and I live out here a few hours later I was back on the road again and at the light I was right next to the same officer who sped around me and turned his head. When he looked over and realized I was the same jeep driver as earlier he quickly turned his head again and turned the corner when he was first going straight. But, this isn't the first time either once before I was walking down Lafayette and it was really hot out to get back home and the heat became too much and I was out breath and barely making it and stopped because it felt like my heart was beating out of my chest and an officer slowed up enough to stare at me while I'm standing there doubled over almost having a heart attack and he pretends I'm not there. What if I would have passed out on the hot sidewalk? What if my tire would have went down to the rim and I spun out? Things Royal Oak wouldn't know because they don't help! With the ROPD all I know is pain!
Was locked out of car today. They said they couldn't come out to Jimmy it unless keys were inside. But soon after gave me tips to get it thawed..Which worked immediately.

The police officer gave me a ticket for something I didnt even do. Thankfully the judge dismissed the ticket cause the officer didnt even write the ticket correctly and had the totally wrong make and model of my vehicle
They fondled my girlfriend and left me with a 170 dollar window tint ticket, and a 250 dollar loud exhaust ticket. I drive a electric prius, and dont have exhaust, and the car windows are more see through than the officers trying to make a profit.
Harassed my friend because his car is modified. All the other reviews speak for themselves.

I had an interaction with a stranger outside my home that made me feel unsafe. Three officers came out to speak with me, check out the area and talk to my neighbors. These officers were kind and professional. I'm grateful for their response and feel a lot safer now. Thank you.
I can't even begin to describe how wonderful they are at ROPD. Every time I've had an issue they've been kind, helpful, and genuinely care about our community.
