All of the horses turn upside down every night at 2:00 in the morning. Extremely bizarre and somewhat satanic.
A ranch with great personality the horses are amazing for any level of experience and the family and team are a joy to be with - I would thoroughly recommend this ranch for all abilities and I promise you will leave with great memories and as part of the family - truly amazing! My stay at Rocking Z Ranch in May 2017 has been one of the most amazing experiences in my life. The family is very welcoming and caring and very focused on the needs and interests of each individual guest. The nature is amazing and the horses are very well-educated. I was taught a lot about western riding, parelli horsemanship and how to handle cattle. And it was all great! I will definitely try to use the parelli methods on the horses here back at home. I can recommend everyone to visit Rocking Z Ranch - no matter whether you are a beginner or an advanced rider. I hope to be able to visit the ranch again some time in the future!
My family and I just returned from a fabulous vacation at the Rocking Z. The ranch itself is in a stunning Montana setting.
From beginning to end, the family and employees at Rocking Z catered to our every want and need.
Patty, Zack, Maria and Anna are genuinely kind, and decent people and their staff were always incredibly kind and courteous. We arrived on my birthday and Patty made me a fabulous chocolate cake with mint icing! She also made me corn bread just because I wanted it. Patty and her sister Peggy made sure we had delicious food morning, noon and night! Zac came in each night to socialize and entertain us with great stories and history of the area. We were there on the 4th of July and they put on a firework show for us!
Maria spent quite a lot of time with my family taking us on private rides and making sure we had the time of our life, she even taught me how to drive a cart, which was something I always wanted to do! The amount of energy Maria possessed amazed us all! She rode, she sang, she drove a tractor, she did some quick Ferrier work and lead a 6 hour picnic ride all in one day!
We rode, we played with cattle, we barrel raced, we played with and connected with the horses, we even played soccer on a horse (which is incredibly fun!). Anna was always around to help us with our horses, play with us and she gave me some great advice that allowed me to connect better with my horse Hazel. Sebastian, Julia and Justi played a big role in making our experience amazing. All 3 very kind, patient and helpful. Sebastian lead us on a great ride and was always around to help me with my horse, Julia also lead a great ride and found us some Baileys for our hot chocolate after a ride in the rain. Justi created a table out of a piece of wood so we could play Uno outside at the base of the mountain.
The best part for me was how well cared for their horses were. The families first concern was always our horses. All the horses were extremely well trained, happy, balanced animals. When standing in the paddock among the herd you could feel the calm and peace. Young or old, a beginner or experienced you could walk into the paddock among the herd and feel incredibly safe. I could have just stood in paddock petting horses for 8 hours and been very happy. Neptune was a favorite of mine. That horse stole my heart.
I highly recommend visiting the Rocking Z and hope that I get to go again one day.
RockingZ was the vacation that my family really needed right now. From the first phone call with Patty, I knew we were headed to the right place. My almost 15 year old son, with minimal riding experience, was cantering by the end of the week. The best part is that he was laughing and smiling the whole time, and had a week without video games. My husband and I, intermediate riders, really enjoyed the beautiful and challenging rides that were offered (based on skill level). The horses are incredibly well cared for and well trained. As horse owners, it was impressive to see the love and care that the family & staff give to each animal. Sara, Justi, Maria, Anna, Maddie, Wendy, Brigid, Julia, Ben, Patty & Zach- thank you for taking care of us and sharing your ranch with our family! We made great friendships this week, and were genuinely sad to leave and go home. We can t wait to come back next year. Andrea, Jon, & Evan

My stay in Montana is one of the most beautiful moments of my life. It was the fulfillment of a childhood dream ... I remember it with emotion, thanks to Maria, my mare Remi, adorable little dogs, charming cats, friendly foals and magnificent landscapes. , helpful and friendly interns, not to mention Patty's fabulous buffets !!! Unforgettable.
We went in September 2018 for a week. I was personally blown away and can't wait to go back. Truly amazing experience. Really amazing family, food, and horses. I couldn't ask for more.
They take such good care of you! I've been coming here for 3 years now. Thought I wouldn't make this trip because I tore my meniscus 4 weeks before the holiday. I didn't need to worry. The folks at Rocking Z picked a horse for me that is very narrow with amazing gaits. Plus, they've customized some of my trail rides to avoid too much downhill. On day 4 of the holiday and I'm having a wonderful time, with no knee problems. I haven't missed anything!! I've always seen them take care of folks - which is one of the many reasons I come back here - but now I got to experience it first hand. I love Rocking Z and the wonderful people here. Maria, Anna, Ben, Patti, Zack... you guys Rock!!

Rocking Z ranch is in a stunning location. The horses are well cared for and the riding terrain is great. I had some super rides on a fabulous horse! The accommodation is very comfortable.
We are reminded to write this review today because we are sending our deposit for a week's stay next September. We were there for a week in September this year and enjoyed ourselves immensely. Our experience with the horses was wonderful. These are the best trained horses that we have ever ridden, and that includes comparisons to Ireland and Wyoming. We enjoyed the entire Wirth family, while riding, while being instructed in riding, at meals with them and in the evenings talking with them and other guests. It definitely is a personal experience. Part of that experience for us was meeting the Wirths and people from South Africa, Costa Rica, California, South Carolina, Canada and Oregon. The Wirths did a great job of fitting all of us with rides and riding that suited our varied abilities and interests. Some of the guests were very experienced and some were not. We were able to ride on trails and in open pastures with many opportunities for independent riding. We barrel raced and worked with cattle. And, we learned about horses. Simply said, it was a great vacation.
The trip of a lifetime we will definitely be back!

Ride for an afternoon or stay for a week...the Rocking Z welcomes you with authentic hospitality, a stunning location, and incredible horses. As a local family, we came to give our girls (ages 6 and 8) their first trail riding/cattle ranch experience. From horse selection to patient instruction, my girls had a wonderful experience in varied terrain learning from Patty, Anna, and Bridget at every step. My girls are already talking about when they can return. Thank you for a spectacular afternoon!
