Dear Everyone,
My husband and I were in Saturday afternoon to adopt "Lady Antibella." I just wanted to thank each of you that we dealt with. Every single one of you was absolutely wonderful. We renamed Dahlia her and she is perfect. I have an appointment for her at Quioccasin on Friday. I can't express my gratitude enough for what you do everyday and this new beautiful little girl in my life.
I sent a nice long email to Christy Hemsworth explaining my ideal setup for adopting and got a short, dismissive response saying that none of the dogs at the shelter would match with my dachshund. No further questions, no meet and greet recommended, nothing other than check back on Saturday.
The videos I ve seen on FB show these kennels filled with urine and feces and dogs who are begging to get out. These videos show somewhere in the neighborhood of 20-30 dogs. Why can t we at least put a little effort in to see if maybe there is a good fit instead of making an assumption about ALL of these dogs?
You re not doing the dogs any favors by dismissing requests like that and I have a hard time believing any of them are better off where they are now.
I m sure the shelter staff is exceptional but Christy was so dismissive in response to my inquiry that I felt the need to leave some feedback.
The people here are SO caring.
Just keep in mind that this is a REAL animal shelter.
It smells.
Some of the babies are VERY sick and " SKEERED".
Put yourself in the cats, kittens, dogs and puppies place and PLEASE ADOPT!
Save at least ONE!
And PLEASE fix them all.
Adopt a pet! This shelter is full of animals who need a GOOD home.
An amazing animal shelter!!! They are very picky about who their animals go home with and are sure to do meet and greets with all animals currently in an adopters home to ensure a good home for their shelter animals. This is such an amazing thing!!!! They genuinely care about the animals and want to ensure THEY live a good life, not just throw a dog into the wrong family! I love them and I got my lastest baby dog from them!!
This was a great experience!! I called about a dog I had seen online, and the lady who answered was super sweet and told me that she was available and that I should come in to meet her! I got to spend a lot of time with the dog I was interested in to get to know her and make sure she was a good fit. I filled out a simple application, and they requested that I bring my second dog down to the shelter to meet her and make sure they got along. After that meeting I paid her adoption fee, which was very reasonable, and took her right home. She had not been spayed yet, so they gave me a date to bring her back for it to be done for free. This shelter is doing great work, and has the friendliest staff! The give great support to their adopters and are always willing to answer questions.
The staff clearly loves these animals and wants what's best for them above all else. We adopted from them same day. Suggest a meet and greet with your existing dog or family present before you get attached to an animal that isn't a good fit.
The staff are so nice and helpful. Love my new purr baby!

I had a trouble experience I was waiting at desk the for somebody to show me a dog I was interested in a employee walked right past me to a guy she asked did he need any help I stated that she walked right past me and the supervisor crystal was very disrespectful to me in addressing me very condensing when she addressed me acting like i was causing a scene when I was just wondering why she walked past me Straight to the guy
Didn't feel like they had respect for me since my dog escaped my backyard. Got my dog back after paying a fee.
I got my dog from here! His name is Toejoe and he is sweet and kind! He loves when we sing to him. Please consider adopting older dogs who need a safe home to go to!

The staff is super friendly and i enjoyed visiting all the little doggos yesterday. Staff willingly answered my questions about the adoption process and the specific ones about the guy i fell in love with.
We bought a dog about three months ago... he has nipped my kids twice now. My kids are now scared of the dog and can not be alone with him. We have tried everything from schooling for the dog to a shock collar but he is just not a kid friendly dog. We wish to return him please contact me i have reached out to you several times with no response
RACC is amazing!! The staff is kind and compassionate. The facility is very nice. I encourage everyone I know to either volunteer, donate, or adopt from RACC.

Awesome staff that really do care for the rescued animals. These people deserve the upmost respect. I have adopted a very friendly bully from them and they followed up with me to make sure he was doing well and was a good fit.
They truly care about the animals and give their all every day. We never would have gotten our Bubs without their thanksgiving foster program and caring staff!
Offered no help when I needed a wild animal removed from my property. Maybe I wasn t saying the right things or talking to right person. They ended up coming to remove the animal only after I got extremely irate.
We adopted a second pit bill into a home that already has one, and the trainers at RACC were extremely helpful in helping us choose which pup to bring home. They also have has tons of great above about helping them get used to each other.
Was ok personnel was in and out walking dogs, some seem a bit aggressive to me and not so caring of animals though.
Horrible. That sums it up. If you have a large dog that is one of the breeds that have a bad rep don't go her. The female vet seems to be afraid of Pitts, Dobermans and Rotties. She should stick to seeing chihuahuas. Very bad experience. Very judgement on these breeds.
The only agency I know of that post a lost and found page with pictures of the animals they recover. Very helpful.

I know yall doing the best you can and i appreciate it. But yall need to hire more people to dispatch as soon as possible because it takes yall forever to come. Not the employees fault i know yall short staff but the Same way yall fully staff in your building i think you should have more people as well outside to dispatch. Again i know yall short staff and yall have to cover majority of the city area. I wanna thank you for yall effort and trying your best. Keep up the awesome job that yall do especially the one that gets to dispatch and pick up or help out the community.

The staff of RACC go above and beyond in caring for Richmond's animal residents. No case is too difficult for them. RACC team members are compassionate, enthusiastic and generous. I greatly admire them for the difficult work they do so well.

Just fostered/adopted our new kittens from Richmond Animal Care and Control. We brought them in to get fixed before and everything was easy and efficient and we were given a good rundown of how to care for them and what to do if/when we needed to take them in for a checkup.
Adopted two beautiful and loving kittens! Their amazing! Staff is very nice, friendly and helpful! I will definitely adopt again!
I reached out to RACC a few months ago on Instagram inquiring about a pup they had, but realized I wasn t ready to adopt. Was very kind and honest with them explaining this but was met with a rude, snarky reply. Come a month ago, I was finally ready, so I messaged them again inquiring about another pup. They wouldn t even respond to me. When they eventually did, alas, another extremely snarky, rude message giving me an attitude and not giving me details about the pup.
I went with a private family rehome and am so happy with my little guy, but I just wanted to check in to see if the guy I wanted originally had been adopted, and they have blocked me on Instagram.
I didn t do anything to deserve that, honestly confused by it.
TL;DR
If you want friendly customer service and have a lot of questions about the pet you want to adopt, RACC is NOT the place to go. Unacceptable.
Very caring and professional staff and excellent communication.
So many sweet and deserving animals. They eill always be my first choice for a pet.
They care about every animal that's placed in this facility and will not euthanize any animal and every animal has a home until they are adopted out

Best experience adopting our dog and they do such amazing work. They have friendly staff and volunteersnthat are so knowledgeable about each animal and if they don't know the answer to a question, they're honest about it and try to find out for you. We love our dog and were so happy we found such an awesome no-kill shelter to support going forward. We're so lucky to have our handsome pup!
I'm positively impressed by staff attitude and dedication to animal welfare. Not at all bureaucratic but friendly and effective.

Very good service when I went to find my dog was not there I left the information and three weeks later they called me and I was able to find my dog very very happy again.

Love this place. I work with a dog rescue group and Richmond ACC has always been great to work with. They are only interested in what's best for the animals.
I visited the shelter yesterday, and although I came out empty handed, I was impressed by the work being done there. God bless everyone working there for the great work they are doing! Highly recommended.
A passionate and knowledgeable staff make for a truly unique and loving experience
I recently found a lost, healthy, boxer/mastiff mix with no collar. She is very playful outside but wont come inside where it's warm. Right now, she is in my backyard. I called the Richmond Animal Control so that she'll at least be out of the cold while the owner is being located. They told me someone would be coming by today. That was at 10:00am. It is now 6:45pm and no one has come. I called back an hour ago and was assured that an officer was on the way today.
I understand a business being busy. What I do not understand is a business making false promises when the potential life of a lost animal is on the line. It will be below freezing tonight and I have no way of helping this dog stay warm.
The staff and volunteers here are incredibly good people.
I adopted my amazing little buddy Redd from here! Everything went smooth and everyone was so nice. I would adopt all of those dogs if I could. They all deserve a home and a family just like us.
I got my best friend from here. This place is truly the greatest place to find a companion for life!

Incredible staff - I feel like all adoption centers/shelters say that their goal is finding the best fit. This group truly demonstrates that their primary goal is to make sure pets are finding the right families and ensure everyone is set up for success. Everyone we worked with was very kind and these folks adore their animals. Great adoption process from start to finish.

A dog rescued us 15 years ago, and recently passed. He was the best part of our family. We can t thank these volunteers enough for providing the opportunity to allow us to bring him into our home. Adoption was simple and we picked him up , after having neutered at the SOCA.
Under difficult circumstances they do a good job here. The facility is built like a dungeon, however, and is an ominous place to be.

Amazing women in the facility today! Buddy got out somehow (we still can't figure it out) and they had him for us within a few hours. It's and awful feeling to lose your pet and they are incredibly underappreciated until you need them! Thank you for keeping our dog safe, he is family to us and it was a relief to have him back safe and healthy!

Unlike some counties animal control you can walk in and visit the animals for yourself unless of course a specific room or animal is closed off, very friendly staff and volunteers so many dogs & cats need homes they of course have many pits if youre looking for a pit bull any age/size/temper you can find one here that u will fall in love with
The staff at RACC are absolutely amazing. I've been looking for a dog to adopt for weeks and they were the most responsive and easy to work with out of anyone I had reached out to. You can tell the staffers truly care about the animals here and want nothing but the best for them.
This animal shelter is on my regular rotation for donations. Everyone is always very gracious when I drop off pet food and snacks and they work very hard to get their animals adopted. I saw this week that they even have a drop-off donation area for those in need. The bags are full of shredded paper and not trash!!!
Went to drop of a stray dog i found. It was a Sat. so adoption center was pretty busy. That made my heart happy to see all those families wanting to adopt pets. Theres so many that need safe forever homes. Staff was awesome. They were informative, helpful & the most friendly people ive meet n Richmond the 8 years ive lived here. The only turn off was the curb appeal. It was in serious need of a weed eating, lol.

Richmond Animal Care and Control is the best! They really love the job they do and it shows. They are so patient and helpful with the humans who come in to adopt animals from them, like me There is 1 small problem to beware of ... you are going to want to adopt them ALL The adoption process is quick and simple. They are always offering reduce adoption price specials. If ya can't adopt but still live animals consider donating or attending 1 of their many functions to raise awareness and funds. to take care of all the special animals who come thru their doors.
Great people, wonderful adoptable pets waiting for a new home. We have 1 dog, 1 cat, and foster frequently through RAC.
Adopted a kitten here, it was free due to national adoption day and they even gave us a bag of cat food and a cat bed plus a cat carrier. I mean, what more can you ask for? The cat had all the shots, was neutered and potty trained. Little guy turned out to be the most loving cat I've ever seen, almost a dog really.
Everyone is so nice. I wish I could take several dogs, but I know the right one will come at the right time.
During a very busy day, the building was very clean, staff busy...yet very courteous, Casey was very knowledgeable, very polite and patient...
Website not clear drove an hr to see nothing. Yet they went on air asking for more adoptors. Hello yall had one and turned us away. Claim they want to adopt but tbey make it impossible.
I've adopted several animals from here and volunteer to foster as well, these people are amazing and care immensely about the animals and this organization!
They care for every animal with so much love and respect they have amazing staff and they are extremely helpful
I can say enough good things about RACC and about the staff here. I am so grateful to all of you for the hard work you do and of course for having rescued our prince Joey Bag a Donuts. I wish every organization had have the high ethics and dedication that RACC has with its cause. Thank you once more.
