I'm writing about their firewood specifically -- I have no issues with the business otherwise and the staff is super. I used them twice for firewood before I realized you don't get exactly what you pay for. The wood quality is good, but be fore-warned though they claim you are getting a true full cord (see my pics), its more like 2/3 cord, so figure you are paying around $500/cord, not exactly a bargain.
That pricing is on par with higher end Fairfield County firewood prices in the end, but you can certainly do better if you look around. I was just put off by the dishonesty of it all, including their sample cord of ~20-22 inch logs they have you come look at before quoting a price.
I've attached photos of the sample cord and it seems to consist of at least 500 logs, not the 375 they claim:
1) 4 corner stacks 13 logs high x 3-4 logs each = 160-200
2) 6 center stacks = 235-310 more based on above (or count to the left of the sign I see ~45-50 in the first stack x 6 = 270-300)
3) And if you look at the side view photo, there are ~10-15 in between the two end stacks x 5 = 50-75 more
TOTAL: 445-590 pieces
Additionally, the logs in the picture are 20in+ (8ft cord / 5 stacks long), while the logs delivered varied from 16-20 inches (and some were very small diameter) -- so up to 20% shorter.
Average 10% smaller logs and 20% less pieces delivered than shown means you get ~30% less than expected, or 2/3 of a cord, exactly what I received.
I called to explain a (4x4x8) cord was not delivered, so the owner sent someone to my house to check, and had him count the logs. He called back to tell me I had received the 400 pieces of wood I had paid for and he said they were very clear that is what they deliver, and he could/would not send any more wood. However, what is clear from the sign posted (again see pics) is those 400 pieces are supposed to ensure a full cord is always delivered, which they claim is 375 pieces and imply you actually should get slightly more than a cord. You don't, you get 400 pieces of whatever size gets delivered.
It is good marketing, but a cord is, as they say on their own sign, a 4x4x8 volume of wood. Just set your expectations for what you are getting when comparison shopping.
