About READ Saskatoon
READ Saskatoon: Empowering Adults and Families through Literacy
READ Saskatoon is a non-profit organization that has been serving the local community since 1979. With a mission to promote literacy and lifelong learning, READ Saskatoon offers free literacy services to adults and families in need. Over the years, the organization has helped thousands of individuals improve their reading, writing, math, and digital skills.
At READ Saskatoon, we believe that literacy is a fundamental human right. It is essential for personal growth, social inclusion, and economic prosperity. Unfortunately, many adults in our community struggle with low literacy levels due to various reasons such as poverty, immigration status or lack of access to education. That's where we come in - we provide a safe and supportive environment where learners can develop their skills at their own pace.
Our programs are designed to meet the diverse needs of our learners. We offer one-on-one tutoring sessions with trained volunteers who provide personalized instruction based on each learner's goals and interests. We also offer small group classes that focus on specific topics such as workplace communication or computer skills.
In addition to our adult programs, READ Saskatoon also offers family literacy services that help parents support their children's learning at home. Our Family Literacy Program provides resources and activities for parents with young children (ages 0-6) to help them develop early literacy skills.
At READ Saskatoon, we value collaboration and community partnerships. We work closely with other organizations such as libraries, schools, employers and government agencies to ensure that our learners have access to additional resources they may need.
Our impact goes beyond just improving individual lives - it also benefits the wider community by reducing poverty rates and increasing workforce productivity. According to research conducted by ABC Life Literacy Canada (2013), low-literacy costs Canadian society an estimated $32 billion annually due to lost productivity and increased healthcare costs.
By investing in adult education through organizations like READ Saskatoon , we can create positive change for individuals, families, and communities alike. We are proud of what we have accomplished so far,but there is still much work left do.Together let us continue promoting lifelong learning so everyone can reach their full potential!
