A lovely way to see the natural countryside on the way up to Dalegarth, make sure you leave enough time to walk around. It was really nice to take in more scenery in Boot. We had a drink in the first pub, but on our walk to the water mill, the second pub looked a lot nicer.

Brilliant place to visit. We were playing football in the park and came down to have some of the best ice-cream we have ever had. I was a bit too old for the train journey but I enjoyed watching the trains come and go. Breakfast at the cafe was gorgeous as well. I will hopefully stop again next time I go to the Lake District.

Nothing too exciting. The small train moves at about 15-20mph through the plains. We're used to seeing greenery so it was nothing new. I guess it will be a nice change if you're coming from a desert country or something. The trip to the end takes about 40 mins

The railway was very professionally organised with plenty of options available for travel. Ravenglass itself was very (VERY) quiet with just a couple of pubs and a few houses. But the sea views of the estuary were lovely and tranquil and we More

Very good, 2 negatives, unicorn quiz.....2 signs either missing or impossible to see (we guessed the answer, but missed out on scenery looking for the signs!) Seats not at all comfortable for a 40min journey!

By far my favourite preserved railway. The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway (or Ratty as it's known) winds its way from the coast at Ravenglass seven miles inland. On its way it will whisk you past an estuary, along the bottom of Muncaster Fell and through beautiful woodland. There are playgrounds for children at both ends of the line, which is useful for letting off a bit of energy after sitting on the train for the 40min ride. The are also excellent cafes at both ends as well as a new museum at Ravenglass which is a big improvement over the old one. For those in the area for walking there's even a book written by Wainwright called "Walks from Ratty" written especially for the railway.

A super little railway that feels like your are riding on a toy - lots of fun! There are some good walks at the top with some interesting stepping stones by the church - there's a bridge too if you don't fancy getting wet. The top station has vegan ice-cream too!

A great day out for all the family (including the dogs) ages 3 to 93 all left with a smile on there face even on a rainy day however on a nice day the open carriage would be recommended for better views.
Cafe at the end of the line (boot side) was good call to shelter from the rain and refuel before our journey back.
Museum was interesting too with period costumes for the kids to wear and have a picture in one of the display trains.

Lovely day out on laal ratty . Steam and diesel trains run every day and is a lovely trip to take. Allow time for a look around. Kids love this but adults seem to love it more. Can be busy on bank hols but plenty of seats available.

Such a wonderful journey through beautiful countryside on a little steam train that started from a quaint station in Boot and wound its way all the way to the coast. There wasn't much to do there except visit the steam railway museum, but interesting for adults and the 40 minute journey behind a green steam train was worth every penny. Beware to check the timetable carefully to avoid the odd diesel train that is put on.

Fab little railway. On the national rail network. Great cafe at the end of the line. Tasty and reasonably priced food. Pretty scenery. If weather kind get a seat in the open carriage. Fun for kids.

The sat nav sent me the wrong way so I phoned the station and told them I would only just make it and they held the train back for 5 mins for me to make it. What a wonderful touch. The journey had some of the most fantastic views. Can only recommend this attraction as highly as I can had a fantastic day l.

Amazing locomotives in a pretty natural area! Really worth it if you want to go for a little or longer walk in the mountains but also if you just want to go for a ride and an ice cream :) at the little cafe on the last stop. We'll be back!!

Great fun for young and old alike. Took my toddler and 8 month old and they were very impressed. As were the 80 year old in laws and my husband and I.
Good day out. Even in these covid times.

A great afternoon or full day out. Food and beer options at both ends of the journey. We parked at Muncaster Castle's free car park and there is a half hour walk to the Ravenglass station, talking in nearby Roman bath house ruins along the way.

Really lovely train ride...a little nippy in the open carriages if it's not cracking the flags, so layer up. So much fun for children and adults alike. We went out on the diesel and came back on the stream train. The museum in the carpark is also fun, it's very hands on for the kids which is great. They can dress up, sit on trains, build bridges, do brass rubbings etc whilst the grown ups read.

Friendly scenic steam and diesel rail line with 7 miles of track creating an enjoyable and worthwhile journey through varied scenery. Good cafes at both terminus but I preferred the one at Boot.

This is such a joyful experience for all ages, riding a small sized train trough the rural scenery that offer you an amazing view over the mountains, rivers and forests. Would recommend you get the open top carriages as they offer you the best view, just have your camera's ready!

Always love to remember the lovely ride I made in 2014. Having a ride with the steam engine I smiled thinking about Ladykillers when passing the bridge of Irton Road Station. Also to mention the engine move activities in Boot including refueling. Always good as a whole family event. Not only for kids.
Cheers from a german railway man

Had an absolute brilliant time. The scenery is outstanding but for me it's the steam engines I like. The drivers and firemen I so relaxed willing to talk to you and let you have a great look over the engines. Food in the cafes was a bit More
