Great hotel and restaurant right on the Plaza. Before it was a hotel it was an apartment building and my grandparents lived there........so it's always fun to come back to where I spent so much time as a child. They do a great job. We stayed here for almost a week over Christmas a couple years ago and all was excellent.

This is a great hotel and a prime location. The restaurant downstairs it amazing, and plays live music every night. They were super accommodating to my 2 year old who loved running around the bar all night. She must have done 30 laps!

Longtime Kansas City favorite Luxury hotel that is well known and popular lodging location for visitors staying in Kansas City with silverspoon tastes and wallets to go with them. Overlooking the Country Club Plaza it is a great place to stay for business or pleasure. Very attentive staff that'll go out of their way to get you ANYTHING you should ever want for your stay with them.

Decided to treat the wife to a nice hotel night. So I booked the "romance" package.

Rose petals on the bed we're nice. To be honest the bottle of wine retails for $7.99 and the picture frame was cute but I dunno I feel like the $400.00 I paid I could have gotten more for my money.

Breakfast came on time and neither.my wife or I finished it. It was kinda bland Denny's quality food.

I feel bad leaving such an honest review because the staff were super friendly and professional and the room was cute (although hot and muggy the thermostat did not work well) but I left feeling like I could have done allot more for $400.00 for my wife.

UPDATE.

The manager contacted me and we worked it out. I will absolutely be giving them another chance this summer.

Room very nice and clean, updated shower BUT the Bed was the worst I have ever slept in.Many hotels I have ever stayed at We have never had such a poor nights sleep.Woke up around 2 a.m and could not get back to sleep.I have had a back ache since.
Thin, very used mattress with a hole in the lower center which I would wake up towards the foot of the bed. They limit the guest to 2 waters, pop or beer in the guest service fridge at a very, very premium price.

We've loved staying here in the past, we've made it a tradition. However, this year I've called to book with "Sarah" who never returned my phone calls EVER. the front desk is always polite and the same is impeccable but I guess this year we'll be making other arrangements on the plaza. It's awful that one person can ruin that experience!!!!

The staff recognized me for being a Lifetime Gold Marriott member, everyone from the room service man to the registration clerks to Billy the valet man were amazing

I had always wanted to try staying here but usually ended staying at the Intercontinental due to my IHG relationship but I liked the stay so much I would consider making this hotel the main one for stays near the Plaza in Kansas City especially if I could get a King suite with full view of the Plaza lights next time.

The beds slept very well after the couple in the room above me finally finished whatever was causing that woman to scream so loud.....

Food here at the Raphael is just darn good including the hot chocolate and cookies

Everything's overpriced, it's obvious they're trying to make as much money off of you as possible. Service at the desk was actually pretty good, they were very welcoming and helpful, but not happy about the room paid extra for our room, but the only thing that made it worth it was the jet powered bathtub, which didn't work right and sprayed water everywhere. Our microwave didn't even come with our room - we had to ask for it at the desk which I thought was a bit weird, not to mention the mini-fridge in that room was so tiny it didn't even have the capacity to hold any of the food we brought so it all went bad :(. We could get a better room from a mainstream hotel that's cheaper.

My wife and I were in Kansas City for a wedding and reception downtown, so I thought I would pamper my wife for the weekend. We had a plaza view and a wonderful relaxing evening. The hotel staff served all our needs; I requested an early check-in, late check-out explaining my reasoning and they were very accomodating.

Thank you for a great weekend, we recommend staying at The Raphael Hotel at least once!

We stayed there this weekend. We booked a King room, it was $650 for two nights. The room was tiny with nowhere to set up our suitcase. We had to put it in the walkway by the bed.
The room only had one air vent. It was hot and miserable at night. The bathroom was like a sauna, it had no fan and the vent didn't work. I would have gone into the room to get ready but there were only a few outlets available in the room and they were on the opposite side from the mirror.
Most of our time there only one of the elevators was working on our side, the other was stuck in the lower level. They repaved the front drive and had it blocked off the day we left. And the front desk wasn't answering the phone so we had to go get a baggage cart (while waiting on the elevator for several minutes both ways). These things created a huge problem during check out and we almost didn't make it on time.
When we mentioned the heat in the room and the lack of available outlets the clerk shrugged it off. The only reason I gave it three stars was because of the location, free valet, and most the employees were very friendly. The valets were great. But they couldn't make up for the rest of it. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone i know.

Staff came off very uppity. Booked a $350 dollar premiere suite with whirlpool. Room was decent yet tacky and outdated. Filled out the breakfast order slip. Next morning called about breakfast, and was then told the order slip was old and they didn't serve this foods. Talked to front desk about issues, and the woman rolled her eyes and did not seem concerned not did she care or address my issues. Overall not worth $350, and I will not stay there again.

We stayed here a few months ago, taking a break from visiting relatives and friends, and it was nice to come back and visit a place that we have fond memories of from years past. There have been minor changes over the years, but all of them have been for the better, and it still possesses the essence of the great hotel it has always been. Stay here - you won't regret it. You'll have a nice, comfortable, easy-going and relaxing stay. And its location greatly adds to its value, as it is close to tons of good times just around the corner.

Perfect spot for a quiet, delicious meal. A favorite for a special date-night. Valet park your car with the Raphael Hotel and enjoy a smooth, stress free plaza experience with ambient jazz, skilled wait staff and gourmet offerings. It is a must-visit in KC. Try the Wagyu Prime Rib. It's not cheap, but worth it.

My husband and I were very pleased with our stay. We booked our room through a third party company, and unfortunately the third party company booked the wrong room. Manager Javier, and the night shift staff are awesome. he found a way to accommodate our stay to have the best experience. And we did . It was our first time staying at this hotel and we will definitely come back. The room felt super clean, and the food is a must to try. Thank you for the wonderful service, and working hard to find a way to make us feel comfortable.

It is a nice hotel but it is showing its age and could with an upgrade. For instance, the carpet in the bedroom was uneven (worn), and the TVs were not exactly the latest technology. Overall it was a good experience and the staff were really friendly. The hotel has history and I enjoyed the reading about the marble floor in the entrance, as well as the marble sculpture outside.

The Raphael is a wonderful place to stay, especial...

The Raphael is a wonderful place to stay, especially during the time when the Plaza lights are lit. My wife and I were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary, and we booked a one night stay during the middle of the week.

Value for cost: The RH provides wonderful ambiance from the 1920's with a modern feel to it. The cost for our stay was just over $400. That's what I consider a reasonable amount for this type of hotel since it included a free breakfast. We had a 3rd floor suite with dining table/living room and king size bed. TV's in both rooms. The room faces north toward the Plaza, so it was a little more expensive.

Staff service: On each encounter from the valets parking our car, the reception desk, and maintenance personnel (more on that later), every one was friendly and helpful.

The bathroom: The tub/shower had plenty of hot water, and the tub was very deep, perfect for soaking. 2 issues that could use attention: The exhaust fan comes on with the light switch. It was somewhat loud during a hot soak. The shower pull valve wouldn't shut the water off completely, so only 2/3rd's of the water was diverted to the shower. It would have been a better shower if all the water made it up. Minor nit piks.

Living area: The room is very spacious. Dining table with 6 chairs, a nice big desk, a fold out sofa, coffee table and 2 chairs. Plenty of room for a family. Also a Keurig coffee maker. Refrigerator. Usual mini bar. TV was 40 - 50" with plenty of channels. The only issue noticed was a Lego block and a couple of M&M candies under the TV consul. Not a complete cleaning of the room.

Maintenance: The room was advertised with refrigerator and microwave. You have to call the front desk to request a microwave. Maintenance man was super friendly and installed it under the Keurig. Not sure why rooms don't have these in place without having to request them.

Bedroom: The bed was super comfortable. Like Goldilocks, not too hard or too soft. Closet had fluffy robes to make you feel like royalty. Two windows let in plenty of light. TV on the nightstand for those who need it.

Heating/AC: The temperature of the room is controlled by a thermostat and builtin air handling unit. The room was always comfortable, and easy to set the temperature how you like it.

Noise: The rooms are well insulated from interior noise. However, no fault of the Hotel, we were awakened at 230 am by sirens from fire trucks. Sounded like they were parked right outside the front.

Chaz Restaurant: I had purchased the package that included "free breakfast for 2" at the attached Chaz restaurant. The food was excellent. Well prepared and hot. The service however was disappointing. The hotel gives you 2 postcards stating you are entitled to a free meal. You hand them to your wait staff as you order. Our waitress took our order, brought our food, and we never saw her again. No return to ask how things were. I ordered sausage with my eggs and got bacon. I had to request jelly for my toast. We received 1 cup of coffee, and no more. Since the gratuity is included, I wonder if our waitress saw no value in taking care of us. She spent all her time helping businessmen across the restaurant. Again, fairly minor nit piks.

All in all we were very please with out stay and would highly recommend the Raphael.

This was our first business in Kansas City, and we could not have chosen a better place to stay. It s right in the walkable shopping area of country club plaza so we were able to park our car and walk around to get exercise, food, and fun.
The staff at this hotel treats guests like celebrities. Everyone was so friendly and they stock the rooms with anything you could need.
The bed was super comfortable and Terry have good pillows that don t squish down into nothing when I lay on them.
We had the one bedroom suite and it was very quiet.
They did an amazing job at preserving the feel of this vintage hotel while adding modern luxuries like charging ports and fantastic water pressure.
