My wife works for The Nature Conservancy and since we were on a road trip to The Great Sand Dunes National Park, we stopped in to see the Zapata. Amazing buildings with incredible history. This is such a lovely part of Colorado that is often overlooked. The restaurant looks excellent and to stay at the ranch requires a 3-Day minimum visit.

Managers do not treat staff well. I think the land management aspect is figured out. But like so many dream job places, there is bad management at the top that hangs around, recruiting new people every year from the internet who, looking at the Nature Conservancy and their legacy, believe it would be a great opportunity. It is a great opportunity for the wranglers to learn. It's not a great place for emotional wellbeing of the staff.

Awesome views. Great place to see a large Elk herd as well as free roaming Bison if youre lucky. Best bet is to view from POI off of hwy 150 which is also a short drive to the Great Sand Dunes but in clear view from anywhere on the ranch.
