Raleigh-Durham International Airport Review

This is a surprisingly nice airport that is uncommon in this country. Staff are friendly. Terminals are about the right size and very easy to navigate around. Also has a good selection of food options and shops. Architecture and design is also a plus. Sitting areas are spacious with lots of nature light.

Airport is ok but the restaurants and internet service is ridiculously sub par for this area. Wifi is impossible here. Food service/quality is poor. Moving on.

Easy airport with few lines. I fly out of here when I can due to it's convenience.

All passengers with checked luggage on fly 2722 now waiting over 30 minutes for bag 1. Nice job Southwest!

Delayed just a bit, but no plane change in Atlanta so no worries for me. Lots of delays and cranky kids.

Any decent airport should have: Clean, good parking, fast security and decent WiFi.

RDU has extremely substandard WiFi. I suspect penguins in Antarctica have faster wifi than RDU. This is absurdly slow and drops off every 5 seconds. So a three hour layover becomes very painful to manage.

I thought the airport was nice. It is newer and up to date looking. Easy access from freeway and navigate around. Airport was clean.

I traveled from BNA (Nashville) to Elon by way of the Raleigh-Durham International Airport the week oof October 19, 2020. My carrier was Southwest Airlines. I was very impressed by the R-D Airport because the facility was clean, restrooms were clean, and every few minutes an announcement reminded ( in several languages) that masks were mandatory and travelers were required to wear them at all times unless eating/drinking. Proper masks, not bandannas, were mentioned and travelers were told that they could get one from any airport personnel. Security was handled efficiently and politely. There were places to eat and the normal boutiques were open for business. The markets sold hand sanitizer, masks, seat wipes, etc., but like all airports the prices were excessively high. The terminal has some interesting sculptures near baggage claim. Look up to see them. There are other bright murals throughout the airport.

Super fast registration and security, everything is very compact.

Normal prices at starbucks (compared to New York) 2.92 for the average size with taxes.

There is a 9/11 memorial in the form of the American flag, very beautiful and patriotic.

It was not clear how and where to look for parking, but we managed, it turned out only $ 2.

It was clean. We moved to our connecting flight well. And the personnel was very helpful.

This is one of my favorite airports that I've been into recently. I like the smaller regional airport that. Staff is very nice and polite. Even the TSA are very nice.

They actually had a wide variety of shops here which I thought was somewhat surprising. And they also had good dining options at reasonable prices. What more can you ask for, oh, I know. Free Wi-Fi.

Easy enough to navigate but the parking garage gets full too quickly. Also everyone I encounter here is so rude. My mom flew at a separate time and she had the same experience. I get it s ser business but come on.

Nice, simple and easy to move there, without much problem if you do not speak English.

Would not be bad but I picked up my husband and there was nothing for me to eat or drink as I waited. Ridiculous that there is nothing for the people picking up passengers.

Lovely, clean JetBlue is my airline. Security for time in my history of flying here, stated my hands were going off to the alarms. I use Gold Bond new coconut, shea moisture lotion. Dont use this brand of lotion on your hands, security with feel you up. Lol

It is immense has its own train to move between stations from A to F

First time I have ever been to this airport and went the wrong way pulled over to ask one of the guys that was directing people, directions on how to get back around. He was a total jerk and was going to write my license plate down because I pulled over to ask a question.

all right enough for an airport, better than JFK i'll tell u that much... not that that's hard to accomplish........

I've been through the majority of airports in the U.S. and this one is one of the best. Plenty of shops and restaurants with a nice modern look.

It is one of my favorite airports. The international flights offer more than one option to Europe. Baggage claim can be slow and the shops are usually overcrowded. The staff and security have always been polite and professional.

You hardly find anything to eat if you are in this airport at 8:00PM, i was starving and was looking for some food option and the only one i could find was Popeyes, not my favorite but i had to settle for it. The restrooms are clean and well maintained. Amble parking space. Central parking is very close to the airport and you can walk into the terminal from there.

One of the best airports I have used, always tell people what a pleasure it is to have such an uncongested, small but well organized and maintained airport. Traveling is such a hassle and airports usually add to the frustrations but not RDU.

An excellent class C airport. I especially like that observatory they have. It s fun to watch planes that close. Sometimes there will be a heavy aircraft or a B757 that generates a lot of wake turbulence, but that not an issue unless you re right behind it. I really like how the localizers for runways 5L and 5R are positioned so that planes fly right above me. I also really like how some of the departure procedures (or SID) allow for planes to fly near my school, I even saw my high school on a flight!

Small airport and very easy to navigate. Never had a problem getting through security even in rush hour.

This is a pretty easy airport to get in and out from. Parking in economy areas are some of the best prices and shuttles make it easy to get to and from the airport. The shuttles are free as long as you park in the economy areas. I travel frequently and although this is not my absolute favorite airport, it sure hits my top 10.

Easy and convenient to get to from NC State. Flights are usually all always on time unless there is complications with weather. Staff is friendly and swift in the security process, and the food is outstanding!

Despite a state law to wear masks there is inconsistent use of them among airport and airline staff; concession staff; and, most prominently, passengers.

Someone needs to help people understand the need for masks and enforce the use of them.

Great airport. Clean and easy to get in and out of. Baggage takes about 15 min on average.

It's a airport... small... with cnn on tv everywhere

Very few people in the airport today. Everyone is required to wear a mask. There is no long term parking!!! So you have to park in the garage and pay 10 bucks a day. Most stores in the airport are closed. USO is closed, but you can find drinks and snacks a 1 restaurant or two open.

*+. Considering the pandemic, all but the screening machine which took forever. Expect to take much longer to have the bags go through screening for carry on.

The airlines have done a great job of scheduling one or two flights to be in the airport at a time. Social Distancing is not a problem. Custodial service is abundant and constantly cleaning the areas/restrooms.
Masks are mandatory at all times inside.

Very easy to get around, allot of places to shop and eat, friendly workers. All in all, a very nice airport to travel in

TSA had great attitudes, I dont know if it gets busy there (never flue out of Raleigh), But it was dead and check in was a breeze. A++

Southwest ticket counter on the other hand gave the impression they didn't want to be there nor did they want to help you. B-

Overall the snack bar prices are what you expect for a bottle of water with a security clearance, same with the other drinks and soda (I think about $2.2X)

Fast to get your luggage (If you stayed on the pain from the last layover you will wait a while, at the same time still fister.

Over all for my first time out, then back in to it, 5 stars

Tiniest airport I ve ever been to. That s not really a problem, but so many people were sitting/sleeping on the floor... i was there in 2019 and there were no vegetarian options, which sucked since my flight was delayed multiple times and I got stuck in the airport for like 3 hours, when I was originally only supposed to be there for about 30 mins. There wasn t really anywhere to explore. Someone else s flight was delayed and they all got free snacks at their gate, while our flight got nothing at all ;(

Nice airport! Easy to get around and no lines...I guess that's too be expected right now.
Helpful staff all around. I flew standby and my flight home was oversold. Rhonda from SW was so nice to try to find another flight. When we saw i was stuck, she even answered my questions about nearby hotels. The 1 she said was OK was a good pick. Thank you Rhonda!!

Easy in and out. I've never had any difficulties with RDU

Great little airport. Clean and helpful staff. Took no time to get through security on a saturday afternoon.

Very rude people checking you through security. If you hate your job that much, get a new one.

What a hidden gem! I will use this airport more often.

Overall it's a nice facility, but I think they hire just anyone off the street to work there. I had a good experience at the customer service desk and at TSA, but this unpleasant uncaring person was yelling at people at 5 in the morning about getting in the correct place in line. I didn't understand what was going on because the AA bag check and line to TSA we're all mixed together, and this woman was yelling at me and others in the most ridiculous and demeaning way. Not a good representation of NC. Many people around me were also put off by the unprofessional bad attitude of this RDU employee. Unfortunately I didn't get her name. In general people who work at RDU seem unhappy to be there and unhappy you are there. Not a good traveling experience. I've been to many airports and this was the worst in customer service. Lines were messy and confusing and I don't appreciate being yelled at for asking a question. Uncool RDU.

The ugly: Old terminal vs new terminal. Old terminal has more efficient security passthrough than new terminal

This beautiful yet high tech airport has to be the most easily-navigated airport in a major metro area that one have ever flown through. Every staff member, TSA agent or counter agent that you interacted with there has been super friendly and helpful, despite of the serious security they have. Excellent and full of variety shopping options, extremely nice ambiance, neat and clean, what Elsey you want, just go and have fun there. Highly recommended

Baggage claim has ALWAYS been horrible for the last 10 years I ve been here. Takes 20 minutes for bags to even reach the baggage claim. Operations are not taken seriously around here. Everything else though is fine. Not the best for everything else, but fine

Just had my checked luggage opened by TSA. The bag was locked with an approved TSA lock for travel, but the lock was closed improperly which ruined the lock and left my belongings exposed. There was absolutely no notice inside that bag. There was no reason to ruin my lock and go through bag without following protocol. Totally unacceptable!!!

Small airport but its clean and pleasant airport with little crowd. Few steps walk to security check from dropoff and in another few steps will reach the terminal gates

I like the Airport better than Charlotte and I love the Charlotte airport

This is well maintained and clean airport. Easy to get in and out. Convenient and easy parking in reasonable price.

Small enough where it is not a hassle to fly here but has enough amenities that you feel like you are at a large airport. New terminal is very appealing to the eyes. I love flying in and out of here.

Good service and food options, not too long normally waiting in line for TSA

Not many stores or eateries were. Due to virus surely. But this is Monday of Labor Day weekend. Travel was fine, nothing extraordinary to mention.

Employees are nice, and courteous. Especially when compared to LAX.

I have never ever missed a flight. I was 2 hours early and still waited to drop off my bag for almost an hour. The security (TSA) checkpoint line was literally wrapped around the building. When I finally reached the checkpoint my bag was chosen for a search, mind you my flight was leaving in 15 minutes. She took everything out and slowly put it back in all while telling me I would be fine and wouldn t miss my flight...5 hours until another flight with an infant. Worst experience ever. I will never fly out of here again!!!

Came back from a business trip only to find my car would not start. (Dead battery) one phone call and Phillip showed up in less than 15 min to help jump start my vehicle so I could be on my way. Super friendly and very gracious.

The airport floor attendant/ assistant can use some training. This lady cut me off in the mid of my question. as a result pointed me to the wrong direction. When I came back asking another lady in uniform for direction she interrupted again assuming I was trying to cut in the line. Please provide training for your customer facing employees!

Good service I do not speak English and the staff who helped me did everything possible to understand me and always with kindness

TSA did a great job, super busy but still managed to get us through very quickly and safely. K 9 officer on duty, was nice to see.
