Raincity is the best at putting people with little to no power on a more even level. They really work hard to care about people that are hard to house and that are usually barred from everywhere else.

I'm not a Rain House client, but have had two disastrous experiences with Rain House neighbours in the past year. One got evicted, twice, before they were relocated. The second one, unfortunately, passed away recently. But only after a tumultuous relationship with a partner who may have been living with them, causing concerns and discomforts for other neighbours. I'm all for housing for everyone, but it may be a good idea to teach Rain House clients about the rental bylaws, and living in harmony with other neighbours.

About RainCity Housing and Support Society

RainCity Housing and Support Society: Providing Shelter and Support to the Homeless

RainCity Housing and Support Society is a nonprofit organization that has been providing housing and support services to homeless individuals in British Columbia's Lower Mainland and Sunshine Coast since 1982. The organization's mission is to provide safe, secure, affordable housing for those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, as well as support services that help them achieve greater independence.

The society operates over 30 different programs across the region, serving more than 2000 people each year. These programs include emergency shelters, transitional housing facilities, supportive housing units, outreach teams that work with people on the streets or in encampments, harm reduction services for those struggling with addiction issues, mental health supports for those dealing with mental illness or trauma-related issues.

One of RainCity's most significant achievements has been its success in reducing homelessness among veterans. The organization has worked closely with Veterans Affairs Canada to provide specialized supports for veterans experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless. Through this partnership, RainCity has helped hundreds of veterans find stable housing and access the resources they need to rebuild their lives.

Another key area where RainCity excels is harm reduction. The society operates several supervised injection sites throughout Vancouver's Downtown Eastside neighborhood – an area known for its high rates of drug use – where individuals can use drugs under medical supervision without fear of arrest or overdose. These sites have been shown to reduce overdose deaths significantly while also connecting users with other health care services they may need.

In addition to these core programs, RainCity also offers a range of other support services designed to help clients achieve greater stability and independence. These include employment training programs that help clients develop job skills and find work; financial literacy courses that teach budgeting skills; counseling services that address mental health concerns; legal advocacy supports that assist clients in navigating complex legal systems; peer mentorship opportunities where clients can connect with others who have experienced similar challenges.

Overall, RainCity Housing and Support Society plays a vital role in addressing homelessness throughout British Columbia's Lower Mainland and Sunshine Coast regions. Its innovative programming approach focuses on providing not just shelter but also comprehensive support services designed to help individuals overcome barriers related to addiction issues or mental illness so they can rebuild their lives successfully. With its commitment to evidence-based practices rooted in compassion and respect for all people regardless of their circumstances – it is no wonder why this nonprofit organization continues making strides towards ending homelessness one person at a time!
