Queens Youth Justice Center is the most underrated program for juvenile justice within the Queens community. Over the last 3 years of my Queens Youth Court internship here, I have learned not only the workings of the juvenile justice system, but also the value of relating with one another within the community. The QYJC has many programs for juveniles who are disadvantaged and who have a run-in with the criminal justice system, including Alternative-to-Detention (ATD) and the Youth Court. Both programs help youth better their lives through peer mediation, counseling, information on community services, and help with education. This is a truly wonderful place to intern, volunteer, or to just stop by and say hello if you are a teen. The people here become your family.
