Qatar Museums: Bringing Art, Culture, and Heritage to Life
Welcome to Qatar Museums – a cultural institution that is dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich heritage of Qatar. With a mission to inspire creativity, foster knowledge, and promote cultural exchange, Qatar Museums has become one of the most important institutions in the region.
At Qatar Museums, we believe that art and culture are essential components of human life. They help us understand our past, appreciate our present, and envision our future. That's why we have created a network of museums, galleries, historic sites and public art installations that showcase the best of Qatari culture as well as international art.
Our museums are home to some of the world's most significant collections of Islamic art. From ancient manuscripts to contemporary calligraphy pieces – our collections span over 1,400 years of Islamic history. We also have an extensive collection of modern and contemporary art from around the world.
One of our flagship museums is The Museum Of Islamic Art (MIA), which is located on Doha's Corniche waterfront. Designed by renowned architect I.M Pei in collaboration with local architects Arab Engineering Bureau (AEB), MIA houses one-of-a-kind artifacts from across three continents spanning 1,400 years.
Another museum under our umbrella is Mathaf: Arab Museum Of Modern Art which showcases modern Arab artworks from across different countries in North Africa & Middle East regions including Egypt , Iraq , Lebanon , Morocco , Palestine , Syria & Tunisia .
We also have several other museums such as Al Zubarah Fort - A UNESCO World Heritage Site located north-west coast which was once a thriving pearl fishing town; Fire Station Artist In Residence - A hub for emerging artists; National Museum Of Qatar - A museum designed by French architect Jean Nouvel showcasing Qatari history through interactive exhibits ; Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassim Al Thani Museum - An eclectic private collection owned by Sheikh Faisal himself featuring over 15 thousand objects ranging from vintage cars & planes to antique furniture & weapons ; Msheireb Museums- Four restored heritage houses showcasing traditional Qatari architecture along with its social customs .
Apart from these museums we also host various exhibitions throughout the year at different venues like Katara Cultural Village or even outdoors like Richard Serra’s East-West/West-East sculpture installation situated in Brouq Nature Reserve .
At Qatar Museums we believe that everyone should have access to culture regardless their background or age . That’s why we offer free admission for all visitors at all times except for special exhibitions where there might be nominal fees charged . We also offer educational programs for schools so students can learn about their own heritage as well as other cultures around them .
