Staff could've been friendlier. Didn't feel very welcome. Purchased the pecan slice, a cheese slice and a cup of sour lemon sorbet. The pecan slice was served with yoghurt and was really good. The sour lemon sorbet packed a punch but is an acquired taste. The drive to this place from Whangaparaoa is a treat for the eyes and gave us more pleasure than the time spent at the actual place.

If you love cheese this is the place to go, a lot of selections~ Was there for the cheese platter, and found out the gelato and open beef sandwich was also very nice~ The cafe has both indoor and outdoor seating with backyard for kids to play around. Since you have already driven 1 hour from Auckland it's worth to get something to eat back home, if you lucky, there might be buckets of cheese for sale~

I bring all my overseas visitors here for tea and a cheese-tasting experience. Highly recommended.
Surrounded by beautiful hills and natural forest. Well worth the drive. They also have a lovely outdoor children's play area. Unique public toilets too :-)
Keep up the fabulous work Puhoi! I will be back in April.

Fantastic offer both of food to have there and take away cheeses and dairy products and other complementary products. Cheese tastes great - I had the baked Camembert and it was delicious! Friendly staff serving you in a nicely decorated interior. Worth a detour from the motorway!

Good to check out and see where the cheeses are made.
Good range of platters and a decent range of food selection.
Wine selection is ample, but unfortunately doesn't showcase many of the regions wines.
Great place for families to come as there is a fenced playground and lots of outdoor seating.
Service is very hit and miss and and this is now the 3rd time I have been here over a couple of years and unfortunately the service hasn't improved. Go here knowing the wait times are fairly long for food and you need to go upto the counter to order, which can see you standing in line for approx 5-10min.

The prices for the cafe food are right up there. I tried the rhubarb yoghurt ice cream and it was delicious - tasted a bit like sherbet. I bought some Triple Cream Brie, it's so moreish, I can't stop eating it, best Brie I've tasted. Can't wait to go back and get more Brie.

Visited in 2015, loved the gardens, had lunch there, tasted the cheeses and enjoyed it very much.
Went there for lunch today. Gardens closed to the public, very disappointing. Service poor , tables where people had eaten were not cleared, birds sitting on the tables eating leftover food. Overall impressions grubby.

Usually a very good experience. Disappointed to bring visitors, up from the deep South, out to share the experience. Only to find out it was closed, day before Christmas, even though the website said it was open.

I've been here several times with mixed experiences.
The good: Great environment and locally produced dairy products. The ice cream is nice and they have dairy free options. Cafe and restaurant. Kids playground.
The not so good: Even when the place is not busy it was hard to find someone to clean a table for us. When they did, they only took a few things away and we had to clean the table by ourselves. At 3pm we were told there were not serving platters any more. The drinking water they gave us was warm (in a really hot day) and tasted like chlorine, just like drinking swimming pool water.

Good to visit when you re nearby. Apart from being a nice place to sit down and relax, you ll also get to try their cheese, being served by nice and polite staff. Apart from the cheeses, you ve got to try their ice cream. Highly recommend their coffee ice cream, really liked it!

I have previously always loved going to the cafe at Puhoi, but yesterday we had to wait 55 mins for a cheese platter! I was warned they were busy but had thought that as we weren't ordering a cooked meal we would be served more quickly, and really, nearly an hour for a simple platter was beyond the pale.

This cafe has a lovely outdoor seating arrangement and was very dog friendly. They provided a water bowl four our two small Maltese puppies and my wife and I shared a beautiful cheese platter. There was a bit of a delay with the coffee but they were very apologetic, and it was worth the wait. Will definitely be visiting the cafe again!

The food is nice but very expensive and service can be quite slow when it's busy which is most of the time. Ive had mixed experiences with the chips sometimes being delicious and crispy and other times pretty soggy. They also seem to take a strangelg long time to serve even the cabinet food which as far as I can tell they just microwave and garnish. The outdoor seating area is really lovely and it makes a nice little brunch outing. Don't buy puhoi milk drinks here, they will charge you a few dollars more than any dairy or supermarket despite this place supposedly being the puhoi factory which makes very little sense to me but I guess when they're after a profit sense doesn't matter too much. The ice cream on the other hand is delicious, I highly recommend the chai flavour.

Very nice food though on the pricey side. Nice setting and good selection of all sorts!
Would agree that staff are not the nicest to deal with but that was hit or miss as I went up several times to purchase and had one very nice member of staff that served me (I think German)

Would be nice if they showed more of the cheese making processes as my children were glued to the viewing area and kept going back to have a look!

Cosy. This place is a really nice stop for your morning breakfast with good coffee. It's quiet, serene, and an absolute lovely place to visit. If you're a huge fan of cheese, you'll love the cheeses they make.
