Great atmosphere. I loved it, the room was so amazing. Entering the hotel looks like your about to enter an awesome show. Lights everywhere while going up the escalator. Self Check in and out. It took me 2 mins to be in and out the hotel from leaving and ever arriving. I will deff come back again

One of the best views in Manhattan. Unfortunately the staff left a lot to be desired - it took forever to get a drink, even though the bar was uncrowded. Our server was supposed to get our drink orders for us, but after 30 min of no service, we decided to order drinks straight from the bar. That still took forever (at least 10 minutes to make a burboun on the rocks). If you go here, go for the view, and be sure you make a reservation. Don't expect anything from the service.

This hotel is nice but it's taking hours just for me to sign in and my bags have already been stored so I don't even have access to my back pain medication. I just wish the check in process was faster because I'm literally waiting in pain! Also I got a fruit bowl for brunch and was disgusted by a strain of hair laying under my pineapples. My girlfriend returned the fruit as well as complained about the fruit and was given another bowl. Theven second also came with a very unwanted hair wrapped around a raspberry. When I called to let the kitchen staff know about the issue is was put on a 15 minute hold, then transferred to a voice mail. $370 for 1 night stay, a wonderful view of a brick wall outside my room window and hair in my food. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!

I LOVED everything about my stay here. I wish I could have stayed longer/live here! I love the design and the unpretentiousness. Bed was super comfy. The idea of the Louis cafe and the boutique store downstairs is awesome. Staff was so helpful. The food was spectacular (get the potatoes at breakfast/brunch, like little gold nuggets!) My fav part was all the green space tucked away around the property like the garden in the front and the beautiful patio in the back of the public kitchen. The rooftop patio has stunning views and I liked the eclectic mix of the guests staying there. I usually stay around 5th ave when I visit NY but I think this has become my new fav hotel. Can t wait to come back soon.

The hotel is nice and the view is great if you are in the upper floors. The staff is totally nil ... For this price I think it is quite possible to find better. The 18th floor bar serves $ 17 cocktails in plastic glasses ...

Best NYC Hotel I've stayed in. I highly recommend geting a Hi-floor room. Every time we walked in we where delighted by how bright and clean the room felt. Few places manage to exceed my expectations before I even stepped inside, Public did. We where greeted by an 'Advisor when we stepped out of the car, he pointed out the amenities and restaurants and showed us some of the unique designs that makes this hotel special. All this in the short walk and escalator ride to the check in desk. To add to this Public has some of the best spots in town with the Kitchen and the Roof and their lounge which makes it hard to ever leave and explore the great city of New York.

Intimate, dark, sexy, and fairly priced. This is a gem in NYC. The entrance gives a speak easy kind of vibe since you wouldn t expect this high quality of a bar from the bottom entrance. As soon as you get to the elevator you know it s going to be good. Stellar NYC views and a place for drinks that will definitely impress.

Been here several times. Checked out the roof, the basement for a comedy show, the upper lounge area, the study/library area and the second floor.

The place is immaculate from top to bottom. Stunning decor and design elements everywhere. It is the most modern, stunning, stylish and sophisticated hotel design I've seen in New York City. Needless to say this is a great date spot.

They say the food here is delicious, and the drinks I've had have been stellar.
The gift shop is pretty pricey... And I bet the rooms are expensive but from what I've seen, it is probably a worthwhile and unforgettable experience.

5 stars for sure. I hope this hotel does well!

Our room was super clean with ambient lighting. The black out curtains became an essential the next day. Love the fur throw, great accompaniment to a room temperature of 63. I found myself a little perturbed by the lack of actual service at first, (people bringing things you need up to the room), but adjusted to it within a few hours of my stay. The price point for the area and style really is unbeatable.

The lounge area is fantastic. Definitely a great spot to sit down and get some work done. Good wifi, power outlets and lots of seating, including large work tables and sofas. Not very busy on a weekday.

Really cool hotel, but the rooms are very small and kind of strange. The hotel itself is modern and industrial. The rooftop bar is excellent, and the coffee shop in the ground floor is cool and has great pastries from Balthazar. Great location and neighborhood too. Would stay again.

The service was extremely BAD, it was really disappointing how rude all the staff members were. The room was tiny, the soundproof horrible and not clean at all. we stayed for 6 days and the housekeeping never bothered to change our sheets.

Super small rooms, hard to get towels and water is not free. Also we tried to get one of the people at the desk to take a picture of me and my girlfriend and they said no? Totally not worth it for the money I would ve paid double just to not come here.

Came by Public yesterday afternoon, my friend and I went inside to cool off and saw a really nice cocktail bar called DIEGO, we had an off the menu cocktail recommended by the manager Andrew who was really helpful. The bartender Was very nice too, they can make really good drinks there. We went up to the roof there and it was so beautiful, the views were great and the staff were all nice. We stayed for a while, definitely coming back to public soon !

Very nice hotel, however, they fail to tell you that they need an extra $150 security fee that they will hold through out your stay and return to you 3-5 business days from your check out (so if your staying here make sure you an extra 150 dollars in your bank aside from your vacation money). Also, they charged me THREE (3) times for my stay!!! My bank account went negative and I had over draft fees! I called them multiple times to get it fixed and all they said was "it only shows that you were charged once"...After 3 days I did get all the extra money that was taken off back as it was only money that was being held, but I still had the over draft fees to pay. It was a nightmare, really! Its sooo sad because I really did love the hotel and the room was amazing. But everything that happened since I checked in was a nightmare and totally ruined my vacation!

PS: There is noooo parking available near there and vallet parking is $65 per day!

UPDATE: Dan from Public left the message below on my review appearing to want to make a genuine effort to make things right. I'm open minded and would be willing to give it another shot. I have now sent an email and 3 follow up emails, with zero response. As of right now I figure it's only fair to call out that this is just a message for vanity and there is no real follow-up after comments like this.

ORIGINAL REVIEW: I rarely leave reviews and hate to complain, but our stay at PUBLIC was such a disappointing letdown. Flew in from Toronto and treated my girlfriend (who lives in NYC) to a staycation in the city. Left disappointed after thoroughly enjoying dinner at Public Kitchen and the rooftop during PUBLIC's opening week.

Lovely space. The upstairs club is very loud and is a scene. If you're not a guest of the hotel you have queue down in the lobby. Hotel guests get priority. The downstairs bars clear out once the upstairs club opens. The drinks are small and pricey if that's what your into. So far as the hotel is concerned the rooms are small, check in is automated but there is a live person there to assist. It's clean and modern and on slow weekends you can find a bargain.

Brand new hotel with very modern rooms. Appears to have a great weekend nightlife scene but quiet enough during the week for business trips. I'm in New York every other week, will be my new home away from home.

One of the best skyline views in NYC! It's a busy lounge on the roof, mostly filled with good music and good people. Say hello to Solomon on your way in through the side if you're not a guest of the hotel. ;)

The design of this hotel is so incredibly stunning that it should be a landmark. From the escalator to the public areas to the rooms, absolute aesthetic perfection. Also delightful service from the staff. Not a single thing wrong with this visual feast of a hotel.

This review is for the rooftop. Don't even waste your time trying to get in. We waited 30 mins before the bar had even opened and were one of the first few people trying to get entry. The door girl told us we had to pay $1000 for a table or have a booking, otherwise they couldn't accommodate 5 of us. The bar had JUST opened, I'm SURE it wasn't full. It was also 4pm in the afternoon. We're a pretty multicultural group and the people let in before us weren't. I can only assume my skin colour was a problem. There is absolutely no reason to exercise that level of senseless prejudice. Go to Mr Purple instead - it's inclusive and not pretentious, the drinks are great and the view is WAY better.

The restaurant is situated in the hotel. It's pretty trendy with lots of business meetings taking place. It's a nice roaring quiet. Lots of people talking but the white noise is nit distracting. Food prices are reasonable but drinks are comparatively pricey. Service is young and inexperienced but attentive. Yhe restaurant still has a JG flare. Simple dishes. Beautifully plated.
