The fact that this "community care" group only helps people for 3 hours a day (until 12:30) is utterly astounding to me. Especially since the people they are meant to be helping are normally out looking for work in the mornings. When I asked them why this was their response was, "that's the way we've always done things". This is a lazy answer that doesn't even consider the question. Uniting Prahran may say they help people but they really offer very little and need to get into gear, with normal helpful business hours, and help people during normal hours like every other community group

Good place for people with mental health issues to access cheap food and some services for their mental health unfortunately services fall short due to lack of funding. Reception is also hard to find as you have to go upstairs

I work for them. They are fantastic and welcoming of new and old clients in need of emergency relief just to name one thing. Also have Hartley's which provide cheap ( sometimes free ) nourishing meals to socially disadvantaged people.

Lovely complementary free meal once per calendar month for health care card /concession card holders,I believe that I had lamb stew atop a bed of white rice with a serving of broiled vegetables atop the stew ,I thoroughly enjoyed every last morsel, I was filled upto the point of fulfillment and ready to hit the road of weary traveler's again, my LunchOut partnersinshareddestiny, also had a free complimentary monthly allocated meal ration, instead of the lamb opting to go the healthier option of rice vegetables and a vegetarian pasty that looked more like a sausage roll which he also finished in absolute entirety thoroughly enjoying every last mouthful, it was the third meal in the last six weeks, only we paid the previous two visits , my entourage and I had enjoyed at the benevolent benefactors graciously philanthropistically generous prahran mission, with the always kindly welcomed by the staff him maintain the operational day to day of the Hartley's Cafe, five dollars per meal with a concession card on your person, and two dollars per soda can, and two dollars per desserts, which their apple crumble looked to die for, only I was saving my precious little money due to the artificialshortage's and five hundred percent inflation of my first choice habit and cigarettes are two thousand percent inflation, which is policestate and ATO enforcement of poverty.

The shop only does a 15% off/once weekly to those in need to shop there in the"op shop",but worst yet when you go upstairs to the welfare office the bags of food they give you much of it's past it's expiring date?!! Also they tell you there's a program for 4 times every 3 months to assist you with your 'scripts but they pick & choose what the medication is & pretend it's policy that some they aren't allowed to help you get at the chemist?! It fails to be alright as it's bias & everyone no matter what they need deserves health care & it proves this country's lacking in it & services that are meant to assist those who really are needy!! They were quite rude about it & said"at least you can have lunch & save on $4 for the medication" when In fact these days even government subsidy 'scripted medications are alot more than that now days!! The food in their cafe downstairs isn't good enough either as they only seem to take something out of a can with some pasta sauce & call that"a meal"? They may struggle with numbers of people they help & amounts of what government grants they get but this doesn't seem fair on us who need to go there as being given "off food" isn't right & neither's being judged on what type of medication we need to be prescribed!!

They are great. Unfortunately, they no longer provide food vouchers to those in need, assume lack of funding. But, they do provide the best possible food parcels from their stores, that are quite substantial: more importantly, the staff & volunteers are warm, kind & generous. Thanks very much for all your support in the community, it's noticed & appreciated!!
NB: hot meals available for lunch at the cafe.
