I traveled from Chicago to Dallas, 7 years ago to take my then 16-year-old daughter to the POTS Treatment Center. I have to tell you that it was hands down the best decision I ever made.
My daughter, Nikki, who also has Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, was so debilitated that she had a hard time standing upright, suffered from horrific migraines, persistent dizziness, joint pain, unremitting fatigue and more. She missed most of her junior high and was in and out of high school, up until her junior year, when we decided to take her to The POTS Treatment Center. We had tried everything from chiropractic, acupuncture, water therapy, pharmaceutical medications, to herbal medicines. Nothing seemed to lessen my daughter s symptoms and some medications even gave her new symptoms. We were desperate to get my daughter back on her feet again and decided to take a leap of faith and fly to Dallas.
In Dallas, my daughter had a life altering, positive experience. From the moment we walked into the POTS Treatment Center, I had a good feeling and was overwhelmed with a sensation of hope, something that I had not experienced in a long time. Everyone at the Treatment Center was compassionate, genuine, honest, and I felt that they were all rooting for my daughter to get better. The treatment plan was thoroughly explained to both my daughter, Nikki, and me. Dr. Kyprianou then told Nikki how she planned to help her and how she intended to put her back in control of her syndrome. She said that together they would navigate the sails until Nikki learned how to steer the boat on her own. I loved this analogy, and I know that my daughter felt empowered by it.
After 3 days at the Treatment Center, my daughter was feeling less dizzy and was able to walk without needing my support. After two weeks, she was feeling more energetic, her migraines were at bay, and she did a handstand in the hallway of our hotel. (She was a former competitive gymnast and had not done any tumbling in years.)
Seven years later, my daughter is still doing great. She finished high school and went on to graduate college, where she never missed a day from being symptomatic. She has a full time job and although she is not cured of POTS, she is so much better than she was when she was younger, and I thank the POTS Treatment Center for this.
In conclusion, as we approach the 7th year anniversary of my daughter s drastic improvement, I wanted to thank Dr. K. by reaching out and writing reviews about the POTS Treatment Center, hoping to inspire others that are suffering. I know that so many feel that they have exhausted all possibilities of feeling better, (as I had years earlier) but I hope that you too will take a leap of faith and experience, first hand, the improvements that my daughter has seen and continues to have.
Wishing you all improved health, Jodi Rhum Parker, author of POTS Together We Stand
