Friendly staff and located near many interesting places as well as cool things to do. Came during renovation but staff was very accommodating. Breakfast buffet at Jack's is highly recommended.

Great room with incredibly comfortable bed. Minor disruption due to construction works but didn't really impact stay. For our room it did mean we had a much longer walk until we found we could leave the building first and climb up the steps to the side of the pub and save half the time. Helpful staff. Pool was disappointment. Great creperie for breakfast next to the hotel.

Location is remarkable, common areas are beautiful, rooms are clean and well laid out. No air conditioning in our room! At this price point, air conditioning should be a given. Location is the best thing about this hotel, can walk to everything. Good experience excluding no air.

Hotel is great. Rooms were very spacious and location is awesome. Just a short walk along the water to Cannary Row. Only downside to the room was water pressure in the shower was really low.

Did not enjoy our stay at Portola. We expected a Four Star Hotel and we got a Four Star Lobby with a Two Star room. It was very loud inside and we could hear literally EVERYTHING in the room next to us and rooms down the hall. It was so noisy we couldn't sleep until about 1 am. After a long day of travel, it was awful. The blinds do not close fully so a ton of light gets in and we woke up too early. So much for sleep.

The bathroom wasn't very clean, I literally had to clean it before I felt comfortable being in there. Dirty spots on the top of the toilet seat, gross. The water pressure was terrible. Hot water lasted 4 minutes. Toiletries were not good quality, checked the ingredients and skipped using them, luckily brought some.

Ate in the restaurant in the lobby for dinner. The food was very overpriced for the quality we received. For a $100 dinner, I expect great food and this food was decent but not tasty at all, I would not eat there again. The toffee dessert pudding was the only redeeming thing. The beer was warm (really guys?) and tasted skunk. I asked for a different one and that one was ok but still warm. The lobby was beautiful, the staff was nice, but we won't be staying here again unfortunately.

Large hotel close to Monterey Bay. The lobby is very large with trees growing in the lobby with lots of cushions on the many sofas. The rooms were clean and comfortably with great mattresses. Walk in shower with large bathrooms and plenty of towels. We enjoyed our stay.

The hotel is located very close to the convention center and the old fisherman wharf but there was nothing in particular that stood out enough to rate it above average grade.

You get free chocolate chip cookies when you check in which is nice. The lobby and restaurant inside look nice but the rooms feel a little out dated. Probably won't be staying here again due to the exorbitant price.

We came here for the Big Sur Half Marathon and had a comfortable stay at this hotel! Loved that they greeted us with a warm chocolate chip cookie and had nice, soft beds. We had a Keurig in our room which was nice, and the bathroom was updated and super clean. Definitely would stay here again! It was convenient to get to the expo and to walk to the start line. It was right where the marathon ended so that was great too!

The shower was very weak, the water was dripping, the hotel was very big, my room was 230 steps from the elevator, the balcony window on the four facing a noisy street, I definitely do not recommend staying.

Location and Service is good. Restaurant could be very good but menu needs more thought. Paying for buffet breakfast with options of omelette to your liking and then having to pay extra for a pancake is strange. Is a pancake breakfast that expensive compared to an omelette.... No!

The rooms are nice, minus the lack of air conditioning, but they do give you 2 fans though. The staff were friendly and helpful. I had issues with the sink water being too hot and took me awhile to figure how to get warm water out of the shower. The hotel is next to the ocean and is walking distance to many great stops.

Great location and staff are super friendly. Got a glass of champagne and a cookie on check in and great advice on where to venture too. Beds are huge and comfortable, rooms are kept spotless.

Attended a one day off-site including an overnight stay. Staff was very friendly, helpful and professional, including front desk, concierge, door people, and someone who delivered something to my room. Great cookies! Provided a decent box lunch on our arrival. Catered breakfast was good, especially the scones. Room was nice. Bed was very comfortable. Ceiling fan is a nice touch. Nice shower, but I wish it had a tub. Good location.

Two of the three elevators in the main building didn't work, no air conditioning, construction noise, it's a freaking maze to find your room, the bed sucks, the carpet and elevators in the building next to the garage are shabby. The one good thing here you can leave after checking out.

good location, close to wharf. Rooms are clean, no bath tubs though. Only showers. Parking is for a fee, no complimentary breakfast. It's decent, but not up to the mark for a 4 star hotel

Considering the price, I expected more. Definitely needs renovating inside. The noise or construction wasnt an issue. I had booked a harbor view. It was so so. To really enjoy the view, I would need to stand outside and turn my body 45 degrees at least. Picture below is taken from my balcony with my body turned a bit towards harbor. If standing straight, i mostly saw other rooms/floors below me.

Very cozy and nice place to stay. However currently the conference center is under construction so room rates are incredibly low. Great place for some deals right now. The construction does not affect the hotel atmosphere.

Overall, a fantastic place to stay. The location, close to downtown Monterrey and walking distance to Cannery Row is great. The rooms and facilities are lovely. The staff was polite and responsive.

I'd avoid eating at Jack's, the retaurant in the hotel. While the cocktails are great, the food was really bad. Not just overpriced but don't-bother-finishing bad. But I wouldn't hold that against the hotel.

This is one of the nicest hotels in the Monterey area! I believe they are a four or five star hotel! The management and staff here are exceptional! Isaac is an excellent manager! All of my guests have nothing but good things to say about this hotel! Five stars in my book!

Old hotel, reasonably nice and a good restaurant (Jacks), but NO AIR CONDITIONING!! They don't tell you this when you make reservations!! Rooms are very warm, especially in the summer. Be warned!

Very nice nautical theme throughout the hotel and rooms. My two complaints are one, internet is not free even for basic, they do provide a computer in the lobby with internet access but it's slow. Two, getting to your room is a pain depending where it is. Mine was on the third floor and I had to travel between buildings that do not have any cover so good luck if its raining. I had to walk outside about 3 times to get to my room each time which was not fun. Otherwise it is a nice hotel.

This was a very nice hotel to stay in for a conference. I loved the proximity to restaurants and attractions. It was nice to just walk across the plaza to Old Fisherman's Wharf, Cannery Row was only a mile away, shops and restaurants right up the street.
The room was spacious and comfortable. There were plenty of outlets for charging phones and computers for two people- often a challenge in other hotels where you have to unplug the alarm clock or something. The fan or something in the walls/ceiling in the bathroom was quite loud.
My only real disappointment here is that the way the rooms are laid out in separate buildings meant that there was no quick access to the ice machine or elevator from our room, we had to exit onto an upper patio space and key swipe into the main building and walk a series of hallways to get to the elevator. This also meant that the pool and hot tub were in a different building altogether, with no access except going down through the lobby and crossing an outdoor courtyard with shops and people everywhere.

Good deal thru Expedia, beds were a bit small (seemed smaller than queen) but comfy nonetheless. Bit of noise near us but service and location were all great. Showers and bathrooms nice. I'd probably stay here again if in the area.

Pros:

Pros:
Dog friendly
Clean
Convenient location
Cons:
Unbelievably Paper thin walls
Any loud cars and it sounds like you re next to them.
Parking is minimum $21/night, if you can find it close enough.

For the amount of money we paid, We ve stayed in much better hotels around the USA and Canada. Unless you have a dog, look somewhere else.
