Let me start by saying the naturopathic doctor is ...

Let me start by saying the naturopathic doctor is really great. My beef is with the clinic policies, although I'm not sure who came up with these policies.

Health Canada does not cover the cost of bloodwork if it's a naturopathic doctor requesting the panels. While I do not mind paying for the panels I do take issue with the fact that I don't get to choose the lab I'm going to and I have to pay the practitioner's office for those labs. The practitioner's office pays a fixed monthly fee to the lab so I believe that the practitioners office is making quite a bit of money on these labs. Now of course the lab is closed, i'm out $173 and probably won't be able to get my blood work done before my next appointment so I have to cancel my next appointment but I'm still out the money.

It would've been much better if they had given me a generic requisition for any lab and then I could choose the one that I go to and pay the lab directly.

Seems fishy to me.

I believe if one is paying for a service they should have a choice in who provides that service.

Edit: I'm now changing my opinion on the ND. I'm not confident in her ability to treat Thyroid conditions. The labs she ordered did not include reverse T3 and she said she was not concerned with the ratio of T3 to T4. She also doesn't possess the credentials to prescribe Desiccated Thyroid or monitor patients who are on it so I'll be seeking treatment elsewhere.
