Repeatedly heard people be emotionally abused with Porchlight services... No checks and balances with staff and actions. People are so vulnerable when they have no homes we need to do better.

I have learned more about Porchlight over this past summer since I was out of work. This is an AMAZING program that is actually helping people with mental illness or just unfortunate circumstances to get back on their feet. Not only do people get a chance for affordable housing, there are opportunities for work placement as well, that gives people a boost in self esteem. We can all use that.
I had worked with the mentally ill, homeless and people with alcohol and drug addictions in the past. This is exactly what we need to help these groups succeed in life.
If you have ill words to say about any of the Porchlight programs .. I suggest you call and get some volunteer work under you belt. Try to go inside and look out instead of being the person looking in from your life. You nay have a better appreciation for what this is all really about.
Very selfLESS people with a TON of patience, who do not get paid enough.
That being said.. enjoy your day!

They serve an unfortunate but necessary need in these times, both in the literal sense of being an organization that works to help the homeless find homes, as well as all the counseling, case management and social assistance they provide.
They ARE a bureaucratic organization, though, so don't be too surprised to encounter an occasional waiting list, like when you are in need of housing. The list is long, alas, but such are the times we live in.
Good people and a good place, Porchlight.

Very hardworking, industrious, resourceful, creative, compassionate staff. They are competent at providing "shelter in the storm" and do what most people would not do. Their sheltering is wonderful for restoring mental health. Having access to showers, soap, towels, a clean bed, and a safe place to be is awesome, and of course some good food makes it all heaven sent.

About Porchlight Inc

Porchlight Inc: A Beacon of Hope for the Homeless

Porchlight Inc is a non-profit organization that has been working tirelessly to reduce homelessness in Dane County, Wisconsin. The organization was founded in 1999 with a mission to provide shelter, affordable housing, and supportive services to individuals and families who are experiencing homelessness.

The problem of homelessness is not unique to Dane County. It is a nationwide issue that affects millions of people every year. However, Porchlight has taken a proactive approach towards addressing this issue by collaborating with the community and other organizations to provide comprehensive solutions.

One of the key initiatives undertaken by Porchlight is providing emergency shelter for homeless individuals and families. The organization operates two shelters in Madison - one for men and another for women - which can accommodate up to 70 people at any given time. These shelters offer more than just a roof over their heads; they also provide meals, clothing, hygiene products, case management services, and referrals to other resources.

In addition to emergency shelter services, Porchlight also provides transitional housing programs that help individuals move from homelessness towards self-sufficiency. These programs offer affordable housing options along with supportive services such as job training, financial literacy classes, mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment referrals among others.

Another important aspect of Porchlight's work is its outreach program which aims at identifying homeless individuals who are living on the streets or in encampments around Dane County. Outreach workers engage with these individuals on a regular basis offering them basic necessities like food and water while building trust so they can be connected with appropriate resources when they are ready.

Porchlight's success in reducing homelessness would not have been possible without the support of its partners including local government agencies like City of Madison Community Development Division (CDD), United Way of Dane County (UWDC), private foundations like Evjue Foundation among others as well as individual donors who contribute generously towards their cause.

The impact created by Porchlight's work can be seen through various success stories shared by those who have benefited from their programs. For instance:

- John was homeless for several years before he found his way into one of Porchlights' transitional housing programs where he received job training assistance which helped him secure employment.
- Mary had been living on the streets after losing her job due to COVID-19 pandemic but thanks to outreach workers she was able get connected with resources including rental assistance which helped her find stable housing.
- Tom had struggled with addiction issues but through case management support provided by Porchlights' staff he was able access substance abuse treatment program which helped him overcome his addiction issues leading him towards self-sufficiency.

In conclusion,Porchlights' commitment towards reducing homelessness has made it an invaluable asset within Dane county community.Their collaborative approach combined with comprehensive solutions offered through various programs has made it possible for many people experiencing homelessness regain hope, dignity, and stability.Porchlights' work serves as an inspiration not only within Wisconsin but across America where similar challenges exist. Its impact will continue being felt long after we overcome this challenge together!
