Point Loma Seafood confuses me. I worked here briefly in 1982. Before that I worked for a company that wholesaled fish to them. I loved their fish sandwich, which back then was made with fresh local rock cod (aka Pacific red snapper). I was visiting San Diego for the first time in decades the other day and dropped into Point Loma Seafoods for a fish sandwich. They have a 20-foot-long case filled with fresh fish and seafood that nobody was buying. But they make their fish sandwich now with frozen Alaskan cod, which doesn't make sense to me when they have fresh, local fish sitting right there in their case. I ordered a fish sandwich anyway. It was as I remembered from 40 years ago, battered & fried fish and tartar sauce between two slices of sourdough bread. It was OK, but it was not as good as I remember it, with fish that tasted fresh. I can get frozen Alaskan cod in a sandwich or fish and chips anywhere. I expected something better from Point Loma Seafoods.
