I ve been using PJ trailers exclusively for years now. PJ had been the only option in my book for a utility trailer up until this purchase.
Enter my 2021 PJ utility trailer. This 10ft utility trailer was sold to me BRAND NEW, through a PJ dealer, with crooked wheels.
I discovered the problem hours into a long ride home from the dealer as I looked back at the trailer in the side view mirrors. I noticed that the wheels did not stand straight up and down in the fender wells. Shockingly, the wheels cambered out on one side, and cambered in on the other. (How this passed dealer PDI is a whole different matter)
Anyways, I contacted PJ Trailers Warranty Dept. the first business day after the purchase, detailing what I found. I provided photographs and a description of the issue. While super inconvenient, my expectation was that this would be handled immediately. PJ Trailers boasts about quality, service and a warranty....
The PJ Warranty activation states: Thanks for trusting PJ for your purchase. We are confident you will enjoy years of reliable service, but if there are any problems, one of the best warranties in the business has your back.
Sadly, it appears PJ Trailers has fallen short on this promise.
Based on my experience, starting from my initial contact with PJ, to the present, my request for warranty assistance has been a frustrating back and forth with no meaningful resolution in sight.
First, the warranty email contact form was suffering from coding issues that placed reply text on top of my text rendering it illegible. Second, my warranty claim case was being juggled by at least two representatives that appeared to not be collaborating or sharing information regarding my claim. Third, despite multiple requests for follow up s, communication has been short and inconsistent at best.
After I was about 2.5 weeks in to this axle situation I was presented with a decision that amounted to pointing blame at Dexter Axles (the axle supplier) rather than a PJ problem. I was told Dexter was only going to replace the defective/damaged axle as a customer courtesy , not as warranty . Weird and weirder, but, okay, great, whatever it takes, I just want the trailer right.
It has now been another 2-2.5 weeks since I was originally told Dexter was the axle issue. And I m still no closer to any meaningful resolution. In fact, I feel further away from a resolution. PJ warranty dept. has essentially gone radio silent. My emails requesting updates have gone unanswered. I tried calling last week only for the phone to ring and ring completely unanswered. (No voicemail) My last email sent Friday, April 16th reads:
Hello,
I m looking for a follow up on my warranty claim. I tried calling the warranty department this afternoon, but the call went unanswered.
Please respond with a follow up as soon as possible.
Regards
As of the time I m writing this (Wed 4/21) this request remains unanswered.
So, long story short, I made a deliberate effort to purchase a PJ trailer, from a PJ dealer only to receive a subpar piece of equipment that nobody seems to want to stand behind. It has a warranty....but, I must ask, who actually backs up and stands behind this trailer? PJ? Dexter? The dealer? It seems every company involved is pointing fingers at someone else. No single entity has stepped up and taken responsibility to make things right.
I reported the problem to PJ Trailers 3/15/21. It has been over a month (five+ weeks) of owning a defective piece of BRAND NEW equipment that I m paying for and unable to use out of both safety concerns and the risk of further damage.
It is really unfortunate that the lack of any action to rectify this situation has soured years of enthusiasm for the brand. Because in the end, all I have to show for my PJ loyalty is a payment on a brand new trailer with crooked wheels...
This really sucks.
