very nice old-fashioned and authentic hotel, nice bar with quality local beer. Great breakfast with a view of the shopping street. Right in the center, but parking is charged (5 'on foot)

We felt welcomed and well taken care of in this authentically old but super clean hotel.
In no particular order, our experience at Pilgrims Hotel exceeded our expectations based on location (right in the middle of everything with easy walking to many key points in the city), restaurant and pub on premises, friendliness and competence of the staff (the manager and the housekeeper in particular were very accommodating and kind), the cleanliness (it's an OLD property, and yet I never felt it was grungy anywhere), the quality of the bedding and towels is very high, the air temperature control in the room was good (we were there in winter and the heating was very responsive), the fact that we had not only a shower, but also a bathtub in our room, bottled water provided each day in the room, and finally, the fact that they they had a family room to let. Outstanding value for our dollar, and a great place for families.
One issue, which we mitigated, was the water temperature of the shower. It was a little out of whack delivering cold water.

Second time I have eaten here. We did not pre-book on either occasion but wanted to at before going to the theatre. It is a stone's throw from the Marlowe Theatre across the road. Food has been excellent on both occasions - be prepared for large portions. Light, clean, airy with friendly and prompt service.

Pilgrims Hotel is a charming family-run hotel set in 400-year old premises, unusual for having attached to it two wonderful restaurants (one English, one French) with an abundance of warm and friendly staff. Pilgrims is located in front of The Marlowe Theatre, and just yards from the high street at St Peter's Street end, near the Westgate Towers.

The restaurants are run separately from the hotel and are worth visiting in their own right even if you are not a resident - Pilgrims English Restaurant and Dems Brasserie are equally popular with locals and visitors to Canterbury alike.

Nice hotel in the heart or Canterbury. Very close to the cathedral and city centre. Great and warm welcome at the reception, and the breakfast was very good. The smallest rooms are very small (espacially the bathroom) but still worth it. The bedding is pristine and comfortable.

We enjoyed a fabulous Christmas party at The Pilgrims Hotel. The menu was creative and the food well presented. The staff did a great job looking after us all. Nothing was too much effort and everything done with a smile! Thank you!

A very quaint and English hotel. Staff were helpful and friendly, the room was spotlessly clean and very cosy. In the morning, I had a hearty vegetarian version of the English breakfast. The hotel is right in the centre of Canterbury, with the Marlowe Theatre right across the road for your evening entertainment and plenty of good restaurants and cafes within a few minutes' walk.

Just returned from another wonderful weekend at Pilgrims Hotel, Canterbury. The staff were excellent - even to the extent of fetching my morning paper from the newsagents for me in the rain ! [Thanks for that Karen !]They were all very friendly and helpful. The barman, a young Greek gentleman called Antonio, was very good at keeping the beer and conversation flowing. The food was excellent . The choice of wines was superb. The service was excellent from everyone. I would never stay anywhere else in Canterbury! You shouldn't either! Thanks guys!

A very nice hotel, and I wish to make no complaints whatsoever. I was unable to sleep in the room given to me because of a ghostly presence, which really upset me. 2 mins after entering the room, I burst into tears, and felt really dizzy, for no reason. I later discovered that there is a 'grey lady' who either visits, or is resident at the Pilgrims...particularly on the floor of the room I was given. Spooky stuff!

I really enjoyed this hotel and the location can't be beat, but there were a couple of problems to be aware of. No elevator and the stairs are narrow and twist. And there is no ac and you can't open the windows so if you are there when it is warm, as we were, the rooms become very warm and stuffy and humidity from the showers hangs around. And our tv didn't work due to a faulty cable connection. But overall I just liked it still.

If immaculate bathrooms are a priority, then look no further. So central it's fantastic. On a side street so quieter. Rooms are excellent. Remember it's 16th century listed building. Staff are really good. Nice little bar and excellent breakfasts. No problem recommending this hotel.

Food was average, and the restaurant had run out of all roast dinners despite it being a Sunday and 2 hours before they stopped taking food orders. Service was good however and waiter was apologetic .

Old hotel in the heart of Canterbury. Carpets old with many a stain. Shower had one temperature - 100 degrees centigrade. Hotelier kind enough to allow us access to another room to shower and also gave money off. I took an extra pack of chocolate bourbons from the room as compensation. Breakfast was ok but depleted bread slices were not replenished. I mean like. By ANYONE

All in all it was perfect: The location (basically in the center of the shopping street), the hotel rooms were sweet and clean and the breakfast was the best I had on my England trip. Great service, car park nearby. Recommended!

The hotel is in an ideal location if you see a show at the Marlowe Theatre. 30 metres door to door. You can book drinks for the interval and nip back without paying the extortionate bar prices at the theatre. The hotel is old and quirky with creaking floorboards and stairs. Our room had a four poster bed which was a lovely surprise. The staff were friendly and helpful. We had a full English breakfast in the morning but the hotel doesn't have a restaurant which was a shame. They do have an agreement with the local council that offers discounted parking a short walk from the hotel. We will book again as it's a good price for a hotel in a major city attracting tourists from around the world.

Good place for vegan Sunday roast and good value. The only thing I'd say (about the vegan roast) is that the centre piece, the nut patty, tastes as though it has curry powder in it, which is a bit unusual; not unpleasant, but maybe not the best considering it's served with gravy! The chocolate cake is gorgeous though. The restaurant is nice, stylish and clean, and the service is good, so I'd definitely go back.

Difficult to judge this place the bar is quite nice but it was quiet. Typical hotel with a small range of beers, the restaurant looked good and the staff were engaging and helpful. I think we were there on the wrong night
