When I went to Philly Music Lessons, for the first time, it was not what I was expecting (but I really didn't know) because it would be my first guitar lesson. It was great how informal the instruction is to not feel first time guitar (or any instrument) players feel uncomfortable.

While searching the web for a music teacher earlier this year I thankfully came across Philly Music Lessons. I already had some experience being in a few bands and taken some basic music theory background, but I was looking to expand my horizons in both theory and songwriting. I wasn't sure if I was going to find a place that would offer more than just the the basic cookie cutter Guitar or Piano lessons, but after a few lessons I knew this was going to be a good fit. My first week of lessons I also tried out a well-known Local Guitar Shop to compare, and needless to say Philly Music Lessons won by a long shot. Checking out their website they seemed to have a well rounded staff from beginner to more specific learning styles (like me). They matched me up with a really great teacher... 6 months in and can't recommend this place enough. I have been able to enhance my skills at Music Theory and Analysis, Song Structure and Composition for both Piano and Guitar and learn all the topics I'm interested in.

I learned to play a guitar as a kid and then soon after college, I lost the habit and joy of playing. I would pick it up every now and then but would drop it again soon after. I decided to take lessons again to give me the structure and routine to reestablish the habit of playing. And after a few months of learning from Joey, I have a profound better understanding of the instrument, method techniques that have risen my skill to a new level, and most importantly, a renewed love for playing music. Joey is a great communicator who understand where I was with guitar, and where I wanted to go, and implemented a simple and effective lesson plan that I'm able to use in daily practice. I couldn't be happier with my experience and would recommend his services to any student at any level.

Nellie Smith is an incredible teacher. I am an older adult who has had 2 musical kids, so I have attended many music lessons with the best teachers in our geographical area, and she is outstanding. She is deeply caring, thoughtful, nurturing and up to date on her musical information as well as her teaching skills making studying with her a joy and she is a versatile, talented musician. I am so honored to have had the opportunity to become her student. The school's policies are also student friendly.

Joe is a fantastic guitar teacher. My son and husband both take lessons from him, and we see him at our house every week. No matter what, he is always cheerful and kind. He is one of my favorite people in Philadelphia. He singlehandedly eased our transition to Philly from Seattle and we are so grateful. He is a true gem, not only as a teacher and musician, but as a person. He is flexible, creative, hard-working--an all around standout.

Philly Music Lessons is great! I received a few guitar lessons as a birthday gift from my girlfriend and ended up taking more when those ran out. The office was super helpful in setting the lessons up. They asked me to describe the type of music I was into and what I wanted to learn and set me up with my instructor Collin. Collin is incredibly talented and taught me quite a bit about the guitar. If you are thinking about taking lessons, do yourself a favor and book them at Philly Music Lessons.

My daughter is taking weekly lessons with Philly Music Lessons and she absolutely loves it. Her instrument of choice is the ukulele and I really thought I was going to have a hard time finding someone to teach her this instrument. Her instructor, Collin, is very knowledgeable and patient. The ease to sign up for classes and pay was perfect. Emailed questions are answered very quickly, the facility itself is fun and clean. I would recommend Philly Music Lessons to anyone!

My teacher was an incredible musician and a great teacher. They cater the lessons to fit your needs and take you in a direction that you want to go. On the business side, they respond to emails promptly, really understanding, and will help you in any way possible. Great place.

We have had a wonderful experience with Philly Music Lessons in South Philadelphia . Their staff is very polite, helpful, accommodating and experienced. They were able to pair our daughter who is experienced in multiple instruments with an advanced instructor who was able to challenge and engage her. The pleasantness and professionalism of the administrative staff is not like any I have experienced. They efficiently handle any issues that arise. The versatility of their teaching staff is impressive. I have and will continue to recommend Philly Music Lessons. I hope that they open other branches in neighborhoods outside of Philadelphia where there is a need / demand, as well.

Loved taking lessons here. Both my instructors (Gabriel and Allie) were extremely talented and incredibly helpful teachers. The office was always very accommodating of the plentiful schedule changes and cancellations I had during my two years taking lessons. Would highly recommend.

My 12 year old daughter studies piano with Philly Music Lesson's Joe Primavera. As a professional musician himself, Joe brings a lot of resources to the table. He has a unique ability to engage our daughter with the instrument, firmly grounding her in classical piano technique while exploring the singer-songwriter genre. His respect for her musical voice and style is something that I have not always experienced with other teachers. He knows how to make the most of her abilities, while consistently coaching her to a higher level. Sessions at our home are something the entire family looks forward to. Joe brings his guitar to every lesson, and accompanies our daughter on the piano. He also uses technology where appropriate, employing a mobile device to play back songs that our daughter is learning, working with her to interpret them for the piano. The music lessons are like jam sessions with professional musicians. I would recommend Joe and this school to anyone who is interested in nurturing their unique talent and bringing it to a performance level.

Emily is very patient with my son and he responds well to her instruction. He has been taking lessons for the past 3 months and so far he really enjoys the class. We are pleased and will continue forward. The facility is nice and you have the option to sit in session or in the lounge area. Parking can be tricky but its worth it.

I decided to take cello lessons this past Fall as a way to find discipline and to work my brain - I was also looking for a positive distraction during the pandemic, and learning cello had been a childhood dream of mine!

The process of getting setup with lessons was super pleasant - the office was/is great at what they do. They made it easy to start lessons, and it s easy to get in touch if I need to.

My teacher, Ellen, is awesome! They ve been providing some great strategies that have kept me on task and progressing. As an adult, I ve found it hard to be a beginner, but Ellen has made starting cello from scratch stimulating and challenging. Ellen is also a very talented musician/songwriter - inspiring!

Having feedback from someone who is not only an experienced musician, performer, and teacher has been so crucial in my moving forward with music, as I had previously only been self-taught and needed a push. Online lessons have actually been a blessing for now, as I m a mom and have so little time! Easy to pop onto my lesson and off. I think it s part of why I ve been able to really stick with lessons this time around. Our lessons are very efficient!

I love Philly Music Lessons! I am based in Los Angeles and I meet once a week virtually with my piano teacher, who is awesome. I have noticed a huge improvement in my skill during a very short period of time. Perfect for these stay-at-home times.

I started my flute lesson with Ms. Emily Stewart at PML in February 2020. I had a chance to have about a month of in-person lessons before we switched to Skype due to the pandemic. I am very happy with the quality of the lessons and the quick response of the PML team to my inquiries. Highly recommended, even for adults who are looking to pick up a new instrument!

There's so much I can say about Philly music lessons but I'll just sum it up too "they are the best". My daughter started violin lessons in October of 2016 and lovesss it, She had the privilege of being taught by not just one instructor but two! Eunice & then Freddy, and they are just incredible. . . Patient & kind but also Stern when they need to be. You want to introduce your child to music, this is the place to go . . . I recommend them to all my friends & family .

My saxophone teacher, David Fishkin, has been one of the best experiences I've ever had with learning. Very patient but also very instructive and inspirational. Very knowledgable about both the little things and the larger view. Always has great excercises for me to work on and feel myself grow as a musician. Philly Music Lessons has also been very helpful in any way possible in setting up my lessons with David. Thanks to everybody for this experience, its very much recommended.

I have been greatly enjoying my singing lessons! We had to switch to online lessons, but it was an easy transition to make and it is working out better than expected. Melanie is a fantastic voice instructor and I feel like I've gotten a lot out of the experience.

I'm a graduate student in the area and I have been taking lessons for the past month now. I look forward to cello lessons every week. My instructor is very patient with me and helps me learn new techniques to become a better player. The cello I am renting is in excellent condition. It came with a bow, rosin, and a muffler. Would definitely recommend trying this place out.

Finally ... a real music school ... one that's affordable and they're far more interested in you learning than them selling. (They do want people to sign up for packages, and that's fair, but the attitude is simply more pleasant. My lesson was with Joseph.)

Overall, great experience with Philly Music Lessons. I had my lessons at the South Philly studio, which was very convenient for me since I lived only 5 mins away. All lessons are coordinated electronically, and it was for the most part easy to communicate via email. My ukulele teacher , Sean was also very attentive and explained things in depth and well.

I have been working with Cecila, on being a better and stronger singer. Her teaching is phenomenal and she gives great direction. So far within the first month we have worked on singing on key, voice projection, and range. The pricing is affordable. I reccomend the singing program to all.

Joey and Alex at Philly Music Lessons are terrific! My boys have been taking piano and drums with Alex for almost a year now and I am amazed at their progress. Alex is a great teacher, he is very patient with my boys, especially my 6 year old. He is a very skilled musician and really knows how to teach children. When I was a kid lessons were grueling but Alex has an upbeat energy that makes every lesson fun and exciting. The studio is warm and inviting and has a great vibe. Music is such an important part of my life, it is so great to see my kids enjoy it as well! I feel so fortunate to have this place in my neighborhood! Check them out, you definitely won't be sorry. Philly Music Lessons totally ROCKS!

My daughter took in-home cello lessons with Yeliza for three months. She enjoyed the cello, but more importantly, she enjoyed the lessons with her instructor. Yeliza was very patient with my daughter who had never played the cello before, she also made sure to explain and teach my daughter in a way that she could understand as a beginner, while giving her the proper terminology. Yeliza recorded videos at the end of each lesson so that my daughter had a reference for practice, and she made herself available by text if my daughter had questions. The entire process of getting the rental cello and getting lessons started was seamless. All in all, it was a great experience for my daughter!

In May of 2013, I decided to take up piano playing again after a 10+ year hiatus. With the exception of a very short lived group adult education piano class (which was not a good experience), my previous learning experience consisted exclusively of classical piano technique instruction. When I was searching for a new instructor, I did not have a particular type of teacher in mind, other than someone who made the learning process fun and pushed me to stretch my abilities in new ways. The half price trial lesson offered by Philly Music Lessons appealed to me and gave me a chance to decide if the school/instructor was the right fit for me. For my trial lesson, I was paired with Joe, whose easy going attitude put me at ease right away. By the end of the trial lesson, I was already excited about the next lesson. Deciding on a lesson schedule was very painless. Joe was willing to work with me to determine a day and time and frequency of lesson that worked with his open availability and fit into my busy schedule. Ultimately, we settled on an in-studio, hour long lesson, every other week. Joe encouraged me to explore learning to play chord based piano to expand my repertoire to include more contemporary music. Although it has been a challenge to learn a new style of playing, it has been really rewarding and fun. I m glad I chose to take lessons with Philly Music Lessons and would highly recommend Joe as an instructor.

I am an adult learner, studying the violin for about 4 years with Stef Emery. Stef is a patient and encouraging teacher, full of enthusiasm for your progress. She understands the challenges for an adult learner, and is full of advice as to how to get the most out of your available practice time, as well as practical solutions for progressing with a piece. The PML operation is efficient, flexible and accommodating, and the transition to online learning through the last year was surprisingly effective.

My son James, has been practicing piano for a little over 6 months. His piano instructor is Collin. Collin is very personable, relaxed, always giving James positive feedback with every lesson. We had the pleasure to experience his first spring recital this past May. It was AWESOME! Our experience with Philly Music Lessons has been excellent. Scheduling is extremely easy with quick response. I recommended them to my "cousin's daughter who is two and a half, and she loves the lessons". It is truly a wonderful experience to build confidence and see our children thrive!

We have worked with Philly Music Lessons for the last 2-3 years. Our 11-year-old son has worked with Emily Stewart, who has been a great piano teacher for him. She is patient, good with kids, punctual, and accommodating to our scheduling needs. I would highly recommend her services. Our son has gone from a true beginner to an intermediate learner who can play nicely, read music, and even perform for a crowd. We've also had great communication with Philly Music Lessons and their support staff. I would trust any of their handpicked teachers!

We tried Philly Music Lessons with my young daughter for a couple of months. Ultimately, she was too young to really get into it but her instructor was great in working with her. My questions were always promptly answered and their online portal made scheduling and payment easy. We'll definitely return when my daughter is ready to pick up lessons again in the future.

I've been taking cello lessons with Nellie at Philly Music Lessons for most of the year. I'm an adult student and simply learning to play for my own amusement and relaxation. Nellie is an amazing teacher and a lovely, bright person overall. Whenever I'm stuck she can't wait to find a new way to help me and if I'm feeling discouraged she keeps me positive. She's a great instructor whether you're a serious musician or just want personal enrichment like myself. The office is also very professional , friendly and prompt.
